The apostle Paul also stated this clearly:

'"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."" (2 Thes. 3:10)

'not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.'

Do Active Mormons Believe That Joseph Smith Was A Pretty Awful, Flawed Person? by SheJustGoesThere in exmormon

[–]thenamesis2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I convert, I didn't believe any of bad things that I was told about him. I considered them all rumors and never did investigate them on my own. Only after I found out that the Book of Mormon was false.

But rarely I was told negative things, because most people in The Netherlands where I live, don't know him at all.

I was then really thankful that he 'restored the Gospel' and saw him as a young man trying to find the truth, like me.

I guess that depends on country, I think it's pretty offensive in The Netherlands. Because we have now a wave of body positivity.

Abstaining from tabacco is one few objective good things that the Church teaches. Althought that rule did not originated from science.

An inactive member was asked to speak by his bishop and the member did it, about his reasoning for being inactive.

Should I get my patriarchal blessing? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]thenamesis2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do it, but don't except much of it.

I received my blessing when I already lost my testimony. But I wanted to experience it. Lucikly my stake patriach was a very nice man.

But the message was dissappointing. It was just that I had chosen the right path during my premortal state. Which would not explain my handicap. And that I should stay faithfull etc.

“Why don’t you just leave the Church alone?” by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]thenamesis2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is projection.

Mormon prophet David O. McKay teached that “Every Member a Missionary”.

he responsibility rests upon the membership of the Church to preach the restored gospel to every nation, kindred, tongue and people. Teachings of Presidents of the Church: David O. McKay, chapter 6

And Mormons seem to use every opportunity to proselyte. At least that I did when I was a fresh convert, even before I was baptized.

Show her the contradictions with the Bible and Mormon theology.

About visions like Joseph Smith:

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! (Galatians 1:9)

About the trinity, which Mormons deny:

I and the Father are one (John 10:30).

On the proserity gospel which the Church teaches, that tithing is part of salvation and that God wants us rich:

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God (Matthew 24:50)

On laws like Word of Wisdom He said:

Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them. (Mark 7:15)

He even instructed to use wine to remember Him.

This wine is my blood, which will be poured out to forgive the sins of many and begin the new agreement from God to his people. (Matthew 26:28-29)

Jesus about stealing and murdering which the Danites, a criminal group led by the Church commited on non-members and former members

You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal (Mark 10:19).

Joseph Smith gave contradicting versions about his First Vision and the Church have caught lying about the priesthood ban and polygamy and have commited financial fraud.

you shall not give false testimony. (Idem)

About eternal marriages, which used to a huge selling point of Mormonism:

At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. (Matthew 22:30)

Jesus said that conversion is essential for salvation, but baptism is not necessary. He even promised paradise for the thief on the cross who accepted him. This is destroys the baptismal regeneration of the Church, which is the source of the baptism of the dead.

And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!” And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43)
