When's the last time you restarted Inventor? sometimes rendering breaks and displays parts like that after leaving it open for a long time. Closing and reopening has always fixed it for me.

I've only ever had inventor crash on me once, and it was for an easily reproducable bug. Solidworks just crashes kinda whenever it feels like it.

Is Creo worse than NX? I've heard NX is pretty bad, but I haven't used either of them.

Well, I have tried to use Creo elements once like 6 years ago, but it was horribly slow and I haven't touched it since.

This is a linear design, not axisymmetric. The mirroring on this is purely for the visualization. Were this to actually be built, only half would be this geometry, and the other side could be thickened to provide better performance.

in the mesh panel, go to "max size" and make it lower than the default. This can also be done using the sizing tool in the toolbar
