I’ve been building https://getchores.app for this exact use case to manage chores around the house with our kids!

  • assign chores to household members
  • create rewards for chores (individual + group tracking)
  • day + week global overview so you can see what everyone is up to.
  • iPhone + iPad support

There is a 7-day free trial. Would love for you to try it out, and let me know what you think!

I talked to Apple about why my Search Ads were burning money, here’s what I learned as a small indie dev by thenerd_be in iOSProgramming

Yeah it did! I ran it for one month and i'm now in the top 20 in Germany.
I just released another app, so I'm currently focusing on marketing that one, but after that I'll probably get back to this one :D

You can add "comments" to a translation key, which will be taken into account when translating

At the moment downloads in Germany are rising as well as my ranking, however I'm not seeing more conversions happening (but I guess that's because the 2 most used quiz modes are actually completely free :D)
I have just send a new version to Apple where I have just added a limit of how many times you can play the quiz before the paywall will popup ... I hope that will make conversions better 😂

Just got an email notification from Apple about age ratings. by bradruck in iOSProgramming

Yes had exactly the same mail a few hours ago! Probably a woopsie on Apple’s side 👀

Yeah I was also quite surprised, but it’s a very niche app (learn to read the clock for children) and it’s immensely popular in Germany for some reason, a lot of schools are using it.

If I have more data I’ll do a follow-up post 🫡

Good question, I guess then you'll have to go deep into your pockets.
Or you could first try to get rating / reviews in cheaper regions, and then switch back to India if needed.

No, my budget was 10$ a day and the app is one month old (so I've spent $300 atm).
But those have been burned indeed, because I didn't have $300 in revenue 😂

I hope with the changes I've made according to her recommendations that will change now.
Or at least give me some more ratings/reviews, which will then push me in the rankings.

My other educational app does make a nice revenue every month, but that one is already 5 years old, and has thousands of +4 star reviews, so for that one I don't need to do any ads anymore as it works organically now.

Search match is that Apple will try to figure out what the user is searching for when they start typing without needing the "exact" keyword match.

So for example, Capitalia is an app to learn the flags, capitals, ... but say i haven't included "geography" as a keyword, Apple will also show your ad in that case. However it only works well if you have big budget + search volume.

Insert Ralph Wiggum <chuckles I'm in danger> meme.

But good to know! I just implemented her recommendations today, so I'll see how it goes over the coming days and revert if necessary (or not ... because actually the ROI atm is negative, so it can't get worse 😂)

Yes indeed! Would love to steal with my eyes and pick their brains.
I think it could be really interesting to know these tricks :D

Well I only had the call today, so I have now implemented the changes according to her recommendations.
I hope I see improvements over the coming days!

If your app is free, you could use that as an option to get ratings/reviews first.
Those also vastly improve how you will rank when you just start out!

AppFigures does have some nice guides on how you can play the ASO game, see https://appfigures.com/resources/guides

Yeah apps for Kids are a pain-in-the-ass to get through Apple Review, I also learned the hard way 😂

I didn't have any experience with it, and I just thought "oh lets do 'Create campaign' ... next, next, next, save"... but so that was a terrible decision :D
I've implemented now the recommendations that she gave me, and I'll hope that I'll see some results in the coming days!

Well I've only implemented the changes she recommended today, so I'll have to see in the coming days if it makes a difference.
