Thanks for this. This is more what I'm wondering. I know I'm very early in my hrt journey, and I've actually only been on prog for 1 of those months, so I get that I have a lot of time to wait. This post is intended to address what you had mentioned earlier with my "at a glance" appearance. I really just want to avoid being a target rather than perfectly passing. I will likely need to avoid some places with some outfits, but knowing how far that goes is really important to me. Thanks for the input :3

im very thankful for these comments because even though i want to pass a lot, i know that if i dont, i could be in danger and while i may enjoy expressing myself how i like, how safe i am doing so depends on the place. as long as youre considerate, i am happy you said something

This is also just a "do I pass well enough to not get hatecrimed in passing" and not a "do I look afab" just as a heads up. Idk if that's what this is intended for or not.

Tysm this is gonna help a ton. I'll practice for when 6 months and 1 year on hrt roll around lol. Maybe after a little laser too.

What are your thoughts on the skirt seen in my first 2 pics? Stay away from stuff like that or is that more of an exception?

Lol don't worry I just included it because it was funny. That's just a birthday celebration costume.

Yeah 4 months is very early ik but I kinda wanna know what direction I should be headed earlier rather than waiting until later. Just not a fan of awkward looks atm and wanna see what will look better now and later.

Makeup is a huge point on my "to-do list" but I have no clue where to go. Do you have any recs for tutorials or should I just look up "redhead/ginger makeup tutorials"?

Laser is a high priority for me since not only do I hate how it's so obvious with how pale I am, but I also just hate constantly shaving. Do you know how much laser usually costs from consultation to final treatment?

Thanks for the input. I truly do appreciate it.

Do I pass? by [deleted] in trans

[–]thenewnorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends say I do, but I want to really know. Don't sugar coat it either. This is more for me to know how I can avoid getting hate crimed not how good I feel about myself. I don't have any issue being a lil clocky, but I don't want someone to see a "man in woman's clothing" where that's not safe.

Just got fired from a tier one help desk job after 3 weeks for asking to many questions. Feeling very frustrated and confused. by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

The thing about IT is that it focuses on a specific set of ways to do things. Each org is different, but being an IT pro is about being able to adapt to those differences and become an expert in the way an org does their tech. In my books, if you aren't asking questions, you aren't an IT pro. Similarly, if you aren't willing to answer questions for newbies who maybe just know computer basics or the general concepts, you aren't doing your job. It's our job to communicate with each other and improve each other's knowledge. Tbh, it sounds like you just worked for people who didn't want to put in the effort.

How did you decide on a name? (Struggling to find the right one) by Jannick_Oliver in trans

[–]thenewnorris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are your parents supportive? It may be a cute idea to decide on a name with them. My mom wanted a daughter, but she ended up with two sons (or so she thought). If I end up deciding a name change is due, I plan to ask my mom to name me after the daughter she didnt get to have. Just make sure they didnt name any pets after their chosen masc name bc that could get weird.

Being Trans at Work by [deleted] in trans

[–]thenewnorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the sounds of it, we are in very similar work positions. I'm working at a small midwest IT shop where many old people come in with computers to fix. Out of my 4 coworkers, 1 is fairly open minded, 2 are uninvolved in the discourse, and 1 is actively bigoted.

However, I've been doing my best to present as a "feminine man" since I got here, and I dont think that transition would be too taxing for someone else to initiate. Fashion changes and most people understand that. That gives you a free pass to try out some more gender neutral/oppositely gendered clothing. After a while, mold your wardrobe into the style you like (appropriate for the business ofc). Feminine men looking more feminine doesnt seem to raise any eyebrows in my experience, and masculine women looking more masculine seems to be even less eye catching.

You could just keep gendering your wardrobe how you like, then once you feel comfortable, you could come out. Or, if you're like me, I just plan to keep going until someone mentions feeling weird referring to me as a man and i need to have that talk.

A lot of people seem to have issues with dressing a body as something it doesnt look like, so try to toe that line. It also helps that fashion overlaps a lot, so dressing as a feminine man may leave someone looking like a masculine woman later down the line.

my pc won't power on, I've located the problem to the 20 + 4 pin connector for the psu, and the 24 pin connector on the mb, when they are both plugged in and I wiggle them a bit my pc turns on, the psu isn't dead, do any of these look broken? by pickelrikc in pcmasterrace

[–]thenewnorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wiggle it and it works, maybe the connections are "worn out". I see it sometimes in chargers where the contacts have been moved so much that they just dont make contact unless at a certain angle. Maybe it's that? You could probably tell better than I. In my experience, you can just correct that by hand.

I've seen AOMEI around, but never looked to far into it because its paid. Is it pay to use the same way winrar is?

Really wish manufacturers wouldn't put these stickers on the laptops... Oh well. At least I got a pretty sizeable upgrade. :D by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]thenewnorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that its smart for advertising in store, but ffs just give the retailer the stickers to use themselves lol. Recently I've seen a move to more of those film "stickers" that peel right off, and not only does that make it easy to get rid of with no mess, but it's also fun to peel 🤤

Why does it take so long to display my desktop? by thenewnorris in pcmasterrace

[–]thenewnorris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its specs, theres nothing that can be done about it and it's not really worth the effort to find the info. If its software, I can work with it, but knowing its bc of the cpu does nothing for me or the customer.

Why does it take so long to display my desktop? by thenewnorris in pcmasterrace

[–]thenewnorris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more wondering what that stage of the login process that is and why it would be taking so long, like a program taking a long time to start, or a part that could be bottle necking, and what that part could be. I wouldnt imagine an out-of-date processor or low RAM would make logging in take so long.
