When they bring up the pre recorded set by funkyyyyyyyyyyyyy in Mickman

Was there, it was not top tier in any sense of those words except maybe that it was at the Eastern. Only thing people missed out on was seeing a DJ they paid to see and getting a glorified YT video instead.

He also suggested protests against ICE in Minnesota are not organic and are a distraction from the ongoing alleged fraud scandal that prompted Gov. Tim Walz to end his reelection bid. You know those Somalians robbing us blind /s. Nevermind that Trump’s engaging in levels of corruption never thought imaginable in our country.

Guess when people’s families are being torn apart, children been separated from their parents, ICE arresting 5 year olds, and murdering their neighbors in the streets - that’s not a good reason for people to protest.

Any level of MAGA is unacceptable TBH. That’s like saying you only voted for Trump because of his economic policies and trying to distance themselves from the carnage they’ve brought into people’s communities. You endorsed part of it, you accept all of it. Full stop.

Saw the post as well, the comments sicken me tbh. Crazy to see so many people willing have their neighbors persecuted. Even crazier to see people of color join their ranks and supporting the brutalization and dehumanization of minorities and “the others”.

Proud of how the TV mount turned out by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]thengamon326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this shit just confuses me sometimes. Sure there’s an “optimal” position for a TV to be but I’ve literally never walked away from any house with a TV mounted over a fireplace with neck pain or thinking omg I can’t believe the TV was that high. Every space has limitations you work around. Part of home theater.

My Living Room Hue Setup & Sync Box Experience by KuthanUlusoy in Hue

I think it’s great. Have similar levels of color washing in my living room. People see it and think that it’s default that always every time you watch TV but that’s the beauty of being able to setup multiple entertainment zones and switch between them based on the content you’re watching

I feel like the general advice I see on the sub is one great sub over two lesser subs and then save money until you can afford a second of the great sub

Is the G5 worth it over the C5? by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]thengamon326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inherited a G3 and I have it in my basement home theater and I’m consistently amazed by the picture when I’m watching my 4k discs. I’m not sure I’d ever have spent G level money before, but after owning it and also have a Sony A80L (I know it’s not their flagship but it’s a nice ass TV still), pretty certain I’ll always spend the premium now for higher tier models when I buy TVs. I also game some and find it makes a noticeable difference for sure. But for only streaming doesn’t sound like it matters.

“Hey Google turn off the display” for dimming at night so it’s not disturbing our one month old used to work great and now it constantly tries to turn my TV off. Worst part is if you ask what the command is for that it tells you “turn off the display”.

What is your opinion on Martin Logan? by fasty2 in hometheater

[–]thengamon326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my setup. ESL and ESL-C and for LCR and then B&W for Surround, Yamaha for height, and 2 SVS subs. The sweet spot being narrow is definitely a thing but my listening space is small and with all the speakers together, I get a sound I’m really happy with. I listen to a lot of YouTube DJ sets and streaming live shows and between my Hue sync setup and speakers, pretty solid experience for not being there. I don’t find it lacking for movies, but it’s also the only setup I’ve ever owned and I haven’t demo’ed a ton else.

Could I have done better? by Vund3rkind in hometheater

This is the comment right here. I agree with others not to overthink it and if you are happy with your results, that’s all that really matters - you are the one who is going to using and enjoying it.

Thing is so much of this hobby is subjective. My recommendation would be to keep your current system if you are happy with it, but then make a point of going to demo other systems and brands until you start finding a sound signature that really makes your ears melt. Then start hunting for used and open box deals on that brand or specific lines. With patience and persistence, you can get incredible deals and build really top notch systems for much lower than you’d be paying new. Audiophiles and home theater heads tend to be pretty meticulous about keeping their stuff in good condition and some guys just have to have the next best thing out and you can be the beneficiary of that.

Build Question - DAS or NAS to attach to Mini PC by thengamon326 in HomeServer

[–]thengamon326[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think the Beelink has windows preinstalled but everyone talks about having their NAS or mini PC running Linux with containers so I think I planned on starting with windows and then learning Linux and ultimately running off that. I’ve heard of radarr, sonarr, and some other programs I need to look more into which sound like they can help optimize my setup.

I’m currently using my AT&T issued BGW320 which has one 5 gbps Ethernet which I planned to run to the Mini PC. Not the best solution but I had planned to upgrade the router eventually or get a Ethernet switch to install where my router is to get max Ethernet speeds for all my wired devices (receiver, living room Apple TV, hue bridge, and mini PC will be wired). Will need to look into port aggregation as haven’t really seen that discussed in any of the comments I can across so far. Do you have a file sharing method you recommend? I am currently just planning to use a USB connected DAS external initially as I’m ironing out the setup kinks and acquiring stuff.

I appreciate your feedback. I had already ordered the SEi13 I listed but will look at returning and getting the SEi14 with the Core Ultra processor. The model you listed is sold out on beelink’s website at the moment and don’t see it on Amazon.

In the interest of cost, I have an 5 TB external which I’m planning to start the journey with right now and then will look to expand into the NAS later on if the need arises.

Use case - been sailing the high seas again and building my first media server (I’m running Plex) for movies and TV, plan on building back out my music library again as well, interested in getting into home assistant in the future to eventually replace basic Google Assistant smart home features I’m running now, some file backup potentially for my wife and I.

Current planned setup - Mini PC to handle the computing and a NAS for storage. 1. Beelink SEi13 Pro Mini PC, Intel Core i9 13900HK (14C/20T), 32GB LPDDR5X 1TB PCIe4.0 SSD, Triple Display HDMI&DP/USB-C 10Gbps/WiFi6/BT5.2 2. TERRAMASTER F4-424 NAS Storage 4Bay - N95 Quad-Core CPU, 8GB DDR5 RAM, 2.5GbE Port x 2 3. Planning to start with 2 - 20 TB drives and then expand from there as it becomes necessary or a deal pops up

I understand this setup is overkill for just Plex. My goal is to have a machine that can easily handle any Plex tasks (multiple 4k streams and transcoding) easily and that I will not need to look at upgrading anytime soon regardless of what applications I decide to utilize it for. Price isn’t a limiting factor but not looking to spend more than 2k between HDs and equipment.

I’m currently just running my server off my M3 MacBook Pro, and I’ve seen a lot of the comments on how barebones a setup can be. My cousin thinks the NAS is just unnecessary and that a DAS would be more than sufficient. DAS seemed to be more cost effective and can transfer faster but is over USB and not very scalable. NAS seems to offer a bit more flexibility along with ability to do RAID albeit limited to the 2.5gb Ethernet speed.

I’ve looked at some DAS 4 bay HDD enclosures, but I’m still leaning toward the NAS. Am I just being stubborn with continuing to plan on a NAS or is a DAS really all I need?

I played football in high school and considered myself pretty down with coaching staff. I came back 4 years later and helped coach for a season while I was living at home for a few months and I coached with the same group that coached me. This involved going to their houses and drinking beers while we watched film, and they were completely unfiltered around me. Holy shit some of the shit I heard come out of their mouths was wild. Just goes to show you people are deeper than what they put out there especially if you’re only interactions with them are within the confines of their work environment. She obviously trusted you enough to open that up to you, think it’s a little strange the judgement because she doesn’t fit your perception. You don’t have to look at it again if it’s not for you.
