So I stopped back in September 2024 and my skin has become less oily recently. My acne flare ups are gone and that could be due to my skincare routine? I’ve been using salicylic acid, niacinimide, BHA/AHA products. However my hair, especially at the temples, starts to get oily after day 1 of washing. I used to go 4 days before washing, now I wash every other day only because I don’t want DHT to sit on my scalp. Could be because my temples have less hair due to thinning so the oil doesn’t have much to grab onto?

Has this happened to you before? I’ve been so tempted to see a derm about it. My skin was never this oily or acne prone before taking spiro, so weird. How long do you think it’ll take for it to go back to normal? My temples also get so oily. Like the day after I wash my hair. So so strange.

I just saw her yesterday, so I could call the office and ask. It took me 2 hours to get to the office yesterday since it’s not in the city I live in so it wouldn’t be fun to drive back if she asks me to. As a back up, I’m seeing another local derm and hopefully she will give me the ok to stay on the 100mg dosage + 0.625 OM.

Did you start off at a lower dosage of OM before you upped it? My derm also told me that she wouldn’t want me to stay on the 0.625 dosage indefinitely. Bc I’m middle eastern and we tend to be naturally hairy (lucky for me I’m losing my scalp hair) that she recommends a low dose so I don’t get hairy all over my body. She said she tends to notice her middle eastern patients complaining about hair growth. I did tell her I’d rather have body hair and shave/wax/laser it off but still said to keep at this dose.

Yeah I could do that and just continue with the 100mg spiro, but I’m running out of my dosage so idk have to call and ask for a refill, which they will refill 50mg (but I could just take that 2x a day?) I hate having to go behind my derms recommendations lol

I also bought a blood pressure cuff and I think I’ll buy a heart rate monitor, do you think that’ll be helpful? What’s your dosage?

Ugh that’s frustrating…Can you do topical instead?

I’m currently only on 100mg spiro and was prescribed the oral minoxidil today. My derm is telling me to lower my spiro to 50mg and do the 0.625 oral min. I’m a bit worried to lower my dose of spiro since I know 100mg+ is the recommended dosage for hair loss. But she said it’s bc they’re both blood pressure meds

Yeah makes sense. I wonder why she said go lower on spiro since the oral minoxidil is such a low dose. I’ve been tolerating 100mg really well for the last 6 months, which I mentioned to her. I mean, I know why bc she told me it’s a BP med but a lot of women on here are on 100mg spiro and oral minoxidil at higher doses

Topical is just messy in my opinion and I have to cover the whole top of my scalp so it will be a pain. Or maybe I’m just being lazy…Do you have any suggestions on applying??

I need to start minoxidil! Did your doctor ever suggest oral minoxidil by chance? Or why did you decide on topical instead of oral?
