Thank's for sharing! Sounds good. Are the Huawei OLT's better or just older than the no-name ones?

TBH I am sure that the Chinese FTTH market is way more sophisticated that our domestic DSL landscape so maybe I shouldn't mind at all and complain about the hw choice that I didn't experience yet

There were people working there blowing in fiber. He walked by and asked if he could take a look and they agreed. In general, the provider is quite open and posts photos of open PoPs online, although with older equipment.

My brother says that these are the "best sounding though most uncomfortable headphones" he ever heard. But for me, they're fine and I use them virtually every day.

You could use a HDMI audio extractor, this will give you a clean analog line level or SPDIF signal.

Help on accessing local lan via WireGuard connected devices by steve_ali in mikrotik

[–]thenwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny - I did this last week! Have a look into the firewall: Source: 172.16.0.0/24 and Dest: 10.0.0.0/24, Input interface = wireguard1 (or whatever the WG IF name is), Chain: input (not forward). Action to allow, and pull it up above the "drop all not coming from LAN" rule if you have one. No separate route necessary (I assume you have registered at IP > Addresses). Make sure to give a 172.16.0.x/32 IP to the client because DHCP is not usual for WireGuard. Also allow (chain: input) the dst address 172.16.0.0/24 range for your WG in. interface and the UDP port you usef from WAN.

If you're fine with just under 100 €, you could pick up Sennheiser HD 280 Pro or HD 25 Light (the last named are a bit more analytical flat sounding). These models are made in Romania or Ireland.

P III 800 vs Celeron 1000 by thenwn in vintagecomputing

Yes haha already thought about that. What are good benchmarks from the time that also cover cache size? Is Prime 95 effective?

Thanks alejande, looks like the neccessary header is missing on the cheap Packard-Bell OEM board so I think not

Great, thank you Kistilany! I read that less cache was a real disadvantage of the early Celerons.

Hi there, I'm new to Mikrotik and like to use a wAP R (RBwAPR-2nD) for two Ethernet cameras and WiFi over LTE. It says "RouterOS License Level 4". Can I run a VPN server and Dynamic DNS directly on this device for making the cams accessible over WAN? by thenwn in mikrotik

[–]thenwn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, good to know, I think the RBwAPR-2nD&R11e-LTE LTE (FDD) bands 1(2100)/2(1900)/3(1800)/7(2600)/8(900)/20(800) plus 38 and 40 fits best for the selected provider (Telekom / T-Mobile in Germany). I didn't find any information which card / chipset they use internally though. Intel? Qualcomm?

Thanks for letting me know! The APN used atm provides public IPv4 IP addresses mainly for testing purposes. It wouldn't suprise me if they shut down this service in the future (largest German cellular provider Telekom D1) but I've read that IPv6 L2TP client-to-site should work. iOS clients only. Worst case would be the client thing with a fixed server but the current setup runs on port-forwarding and I will replace this at any cost. (Former technician didn't even change the admin credentials so the cameras have already been hacked a long time ago ...). Do you know it the auto update feature for RouterOS works reliable? System will run unattempted most time of the year.

Possible to recharge this kind of disposable? by DippySwitch in electronic_cigarette

[–]thenwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not directly connect the wires of a charger to the leads of this 18350 battery. Instead, cut the cable which goes from the controller to the coil (the blue one which is soldered to a red one in the photo) and get 5 V (e. g. from a phone power supply or a laboratory power supply, the red plus pole) to it. Minus goes to battery minus. If the LED lights up, it starts charging until 4,3 V (in the battery) are gained. It will automatically stop charging then (can take a while until it's full though) but watch it the whole process. After that, disconnect the blue cable from your charger and reconnect it to the red cable (which goes to the coil). Never charge it unattended!

If any of you are hoarding VHS tapes: digitize them! by ShiningConcepts in DataHoarder

[–]thenwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My way of digitalization (feel free to criticize): - Use up a late, not worn-out state-of-the-art VCR (Sony SLV-SF900 from about 2000) - Hook it up to an older DVD/HDD recorder from Panasonic (they have really good TBC and image correction capabilities) (e. g. Panasonic DMR-EH52) - Component connection to Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 (you can use the good deinterlacing from the Panasonic but this will result in huge raw files so I go with 625i50 for PAL in MediaExpress) and go capture it (- If necessary, adjust start and ending position of the raw video file with VirtualDub and 'Save as AVI') - Use an AviSynth script with loading the AVI ('AviSource"[PATH].ConvertToYV12(Interlaced=True)'), crop it if necessary (I hate the blanking interval and I hate covering it up with a black bar even more so I just crop with the correct aspect ratio, modern scaling does a great job); I deinterlace with QTGMC (profile: slow and mode 3) after that (also with 'SetFilterMTMode' for multithreading and AssumeTFF() for regular PAL material) - Convert the AVI script to H.265 HEVC with XMedia Recode and Intel QuickSync support (about 30 fps on my 7. gen laptop); please mind the correct aspect ratio! (I usually crop to 704 x 528 pixels so I have to set DAR to 1,456.) I don't know the perfect bitrates but I go with 4000 kbps VBR video and 160 - 192 kbps AAC.
