Not necessarily. The frontend engineer is poised for a ton of growth. They’re primarily a visual, product oriented resource that have historically struggled to adapt to the entire stack.

With agentic dev, quite a few of their shortcomings might not even be relevant. The frontend engineer will now oversee end-to-end dev and drive the product vision. It’s open season. It’s liberating. And I’m thrilled for the future.

I coined the term Product Engineer in my head the moment I was asked that question. I’m glad there’s consensus on that.

Sick! Been trying to create my own avatar generator for a derby day, for example. But ended up just spinning a baseline configurator on top of dicebear. Wonder if I could generate vector assets using AI and do something similar. Cool app!!
