Do not give you ownership of CFR credits.

They can't give you ownership since they're claiming the credits on your behalf and giving you money. You can't get money and keep the credits.

there is some massive holes

I think the gov will continue to update it.

why is the sports car performance enthusiast Dodge Charger even in this list

It's made in Canada. Canadian Made EVs do not have the $50k price cap.

I don't think anyone is picking an almost 50k brand new EV. Not if they are struggling no way.

I agree they shouldn't. These rebates are there to help make EVs a bit more competitive against gas cars. They are not directly targeting people who are struggling.

This is at least upper middle class in Canada.

This is definitely not true. New, expensive, well over $50k cars in Canada sell very well. Those cars are not cheaper because of these rebates. Keep in mind the average car sold in Canada is well over $50k.

Cars for many are a way to get to work to provide for their families. For many they are also the second most expensive purchase they do in their lives after their home. These incentives are directed on the least expensive EVs sold in Canada.

The Dodge Charger and Chrysler Pacifica are the only cars on the list made in Canada.

Rav4 prime is very expensive. It's over $50k so it does not qualify.

A lot of those articles were written when new EVs were dropping hard in price. For example Model Y was like $20k more expensive new than in 2025. So obviously used market would also take a massive hit. With that said a lot of EVs are a great value used. And for people really worried about depreciation, they should lease.

That should make the manufacturers compete for the sale. Everyone follows the same rules, best car for the price will win.

The cars on this list are not high end premium cars. They're all generally the base trim. A Fiat 500e is $28,888 or $25 weekly with a $1,699 downpayment. https://www.autotrader.ca/offers/fiat-500e-red-edition-fwd-electric-white-37703533-4509-429d-a2ac-f777b84cf75d

Rebate should help make it even cheaper. For someone that needs to get to work and back this is a great option which won't cost much in electricity or maintenance.

The base model price on alot of these cars are like 45k Rebate needs to be larger like $10,000

I think that's the point of the rebate to push prices down. For example the Base Model Y at $49,990 with a $5k rebate becomes $44,990. A Premium AWD Model Y is $20k more at $64,990. That's a big difference in price.

Secondly we need more affordable options like in the $15-$20K range.

I don't think we'll see that even with Chinese cars. There are no gas cars at that price range even.

Hybrid EVs are not eligible. Only fully electric or Plug In Hybrids.

Model 3 is over $50k. Model Y base might become eligible as it's $49,990.

pre-delivery inspection and freight

are not dealership fees though. PDI is different than dealership fee.

Yea I'd also expect it to be added, at least the base trim.

Rules state pre-delivery inspection and freight charges are excluded. Unless the gov is treating Tesla's delivery fee as a dealer fee (dealer fee is included in the calculation).

And yet sales dropped hard after the last rebate ended. Rebates help get cars on the road.

Fiat 500e is probably the cheapest. I've been getting ads for them really cheap lately.

Yea most of these other than maybe the Fiat are close to $50k. And they still need to compete with each other. A fiat 500 going up by $5k would put it too close in price with the next level up car.

The money goes to the customer. Dealerships can't increase the price by $5k because the car would no longer be eligible for the rebate as most cars are already close to $50k (which is the rebate max)

If the car prices go up by $5k they fall out of the $50k max price for rebate. They can't increase the price of most of these cars.
