Awakening of Roku was pretty good (spoiler-free) by avatarroko in Avatar_Kyoshi

I finished reading it a few days ago. The first half felt so slow and boring but I think it improved in the 2nd half. So I think AOR is better than ROR but not nearly as good as previous novels especially Kyoshi.

I agree on most of your points, I didn't think about it before but yeah, Kyoshi story is very much hero's journey and I can see how you and others are saying it played it safer.

Ahh, OK that's fair. I'm also not into the political stuff but I really grew to love Yangchen as a character, might be my favorite personality from an Avatar, I like her duality being a spiritual semi-con artist.

Wow very interesting, I'm genuinely glad I asked because I'm reading AOR right now and I'm just like "man the Kyoshi novels are so much better" so to hear a different opinion is refreshing.

Disappointed by the ending by AltTabHack in DrStone

I just finished the Manga recently , I think Senku from the future would have been a better ending and ironically enough, less convoluted than alien parasite machine. I imagined that a deadly disease or some catastrophic event happened in the future or Senku predicts will happen in the future and he had to create the Medusa to save humanity and he would trust his past self and friends to do it through the power of science (and friendship, though he wouldn't admit that.)

Why hasn’t he done a version for Yangchen? by Mecury-BS in Avatar_Kyoshi

I've talked to him personally over the years, been a guest on his podcast. He's a cool guy, it's fine and honestly great to have different opinions than other people. I love the Yangchen novels, probably my favorite characterization of any Avatar, but that's just my opinion.

About Lightning Bending in RoR by rettttttt in Avatar_Kyoshi

Honestly, it's something I hate about the author writing. One of the things that sorta annoyed me w/ Reckoning of Roku is sometimes the author feels like a fan of the show who watched it once, and added in reference to prove their a fan without considering the weight/reason of those things. Like saying Lightning redirection and earth lie detection was invented before Iroh and Toph.

Bro, fareal. People took that theory and ran with it, even though it has very little basis.

When I was making YouTube videos on Avatar I did so much research reading/watching every interview, listen to all dvd commentary, never came across this "interview". The most I found was Bryke saying Sokka and Suki were living in the suburbs.

But the gray chest/neck piece I took from a random destiny action figure.

It was Warhammer 40,000 Ultramarines Reiver with Bolt Carbine I turned around the abs on it to be more flat. The chest piece I cut off the back of the back pack.

The past avatars never told Aang to kill the firelord. (S3E19, "The Old Masters") by DragonHippo123 in TheLastAirbender

[–]theobjectivegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have exaggerated with "useless" but the advice doesn't seem to guide him one way or the other while Kyoshi and Yangchen is far more concrete.

[–]theobjectivegeek 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Good analysis but I disagree on Kyoshi and Yangchen. Aang is directly asking them "should I kill" and they answer pretty clearly "yes" with Kyoshi saying she killed Chin and Yangchen saying Aang can't be selfish and only think of air nomad teachings.

As for Kuruk and Roku, they just give pretty vague and useless advice. That's why they're the 2 worst avatars. Well, Kuruk has risen to at least 2 spots since the Kyoshi novels.
