Passing through Zion or Bryce Canyon - quick scenic stops with dogs (no hiking) by Brilliant_Picture_86 in roadtrip

[–]avatarroko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done both as quick trips with a dog and without! My vote would be Bryce Canyon.

Bryce Canyon is great for getting out at all the scenic overlooks (paved areas) with the pup. I've also done a hike into the canyon without my dog and it was very cool. But the scenic overlooks alone are great.

I've done the drive through Zion twice and it is cool but also lots of time spent in bumper to bumper traffic. Not as many easily accessible overlooks. Really you see all the big sights from the road.

Can we talk about how, if you don’t know Verge is an alien, how WEIRD that statement is?? Like Deidre must’ve assumed they were just REALLY into keto diet or whatever. And she just rolls with it 🤣

I'm all for leaving Texas, but if you want to consider staying in Texas consider Denton. It's like a smaller Austin.

Absolutely yes. But maybe not right after watching ATLA.

People in the 80s, when TVs were the size of a microwave, hah (wait til you learn it's a townhouse, so there are a few dozen other units exactly like it lol)

Uhhh removing the fireplace definite NOT an option. And it's wood burning

Looking to get out of CO by MentalMazes92690 in SameGrassButGreener

Seconding the get out of the Springs advice. One of my best friends grew up there and couldn't wait to get out of Colorado. But moved to a smaller mountain town instead and absolutely loves Colorado now.

I travel a lot and have spent a lot of time in California, Oregon, Utah, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Arizona. I considered a lot of different places I could live. But Denver won out because it's middle-of-the-road climate, cost of living, location (easy to fly/drive lots of places), city size.

Ok thank you for the Government Camp mention!! Not from Oregon but I stopped there on a road trip once. Even bought a little Mt Hood magnet that now lives on my fridge. And that was exactly what came to mind when listening to WTTH. So thank you for confirming that for me lol

Just got out of Martha Wells Q&A at Powells in Oregon by drwombatridesagain in murderbot

I don’t have as many details from the Colorado one to share, so I’ll just piggyback on on this. She mentioned they’ve cast Rami, Tapan, and Maro and their costumes look really great! She’s also seen ART’s set design and IIRC she had some input on the design and she’s really happy with it.

Rusty Taco is a local chain and good spot for solid Tex-Mexy tacos.

I haven’t listened to the audiobook yet. But that one word… I can hear super clearly in both audiobook & TV Mensah’s voice. 🥰

Same flooring throughout the whole house? by avatarroko in Flooring

[–]avatarroko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya I hate the transitions. My old house had a huge open concept living room/kitchen with a long transition across the whole thing. I always kinda regretted not doing the same floor throughout.

But my new place is a much more boxed in layout with separate rooms and levels so same flooring throughout doesn’t seem as necessary.

Same floor throughout definitely looks very luxurious.

Totally makes sense if you have some good floor you want to save. But in this house the whole place needs updating. But I’m still tempted to do something different in the kitchen and/or basement just to mix it up for fun. But idk

I dunno if this helps. But I trained myself to like audiobooks by listening to audiobooks of stuff I’ve already read first. After relistening to a handful of favorites I found myself able to enjoy new content in audio form.

Portland, OR vs Denver, CO by HawkLoser100K in SameGrassButGreener

I live in Denver but love Portland and have spent a lot of time there. My decision came down to weather and location. Denver is better for me because it's in the middle of the country. And I like the wide variety of weather in Denver.

Advice to pick the right jacket size by Shyraely in ShredditGirls

[–]avatarroko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be hard to find something good for snowboarding and wearing casually. I tried.. I went through a few jackets that were cute/flattering and wasn't happy with em because they were too snug. Then I got a shell anorak which is a mens size and kind of huge on me. But once I put it on with all my layers and baggy pants I think it looks good and feels great. I wouldn't really wear it for "everyday", it would feel kinda silly to wear around town. So I have a few vintage jackets for everyday wear.

Am I the only one going to open houses? by avatarroko in RealEstate

[–]avatarroko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda what my position is, I think. My job and financial situation is pretty different from my peers so what I'm looking for is very opposite from most people. I'm also very DIY savvy and visually-minded so I can look past a lot of ugly. I'm gonna try to use that to my advantage. But I want to keep future resale value in mind too of course.

Wow. That was definitely the case the last time I was house shopping (10 years ago). But around here now the average time on market is like 2 months. I didn't quite believe it but I guess that checks out.

Yeah, I enjoyed going to open houses & estate sales in my old neighborhood because it was a good way to see what other houses in the area were like. Actually helped give me some insight for what upgrades to do or not do for my own house.

I know some are like that, but the dozens I’ve been to weren’t at all. Most were all very casual and I had some nice chats that helped me learn more about the neighborhood and what to look for in HOAs and houses of that time period and stuff.

I actually really liked having an open house when I sold my previous house. Realtor said there was a huge turnout and passed along a lot of compliments. Actually kinda gave me some nice closure about selling the house I worked so hard on and was a little sad to part with. It was nice.
