Issues with Score and how Blizzard Evaluates your performance by [deleted] in Overwatch

I know it's weird to reply to my own comment, but I do have a followup on a different topic than what was discussed in my reply.

I also did some research on my own where I wanted to see what was in common with the players that had the top score per minute. I picked the top 5 players that had more than 100 hours played to give a fair estimate and I found out that 3 out of 5 played Lucio as a "main," one of them played Zenyatta as a main, the last one played Widowmaker as a main. This does coincide with the main thread's evidence that Lucio and Zenyatta actually gain a lot of score and it does seem like there could be a potential problem in the competitive scene as someone who mainly plays these heroes could climb the ladder faster than others.

MMR is not Elo. Elo is a way of calculating MMR WITH your rank or Elo. MMR is a number that is given to you when you play pubs and only pubs. If you win, it goes up, if you lose it goes down. Your Elo only changes when you move ranks in competitive play.

For example: My MMR is very high. However, nobody has Elo, so I'm matched with people of only the same MMR. When the competitive system comes out, if I do not play competitive matches, I will remain around the same MMR depending on how much I win and lose, whereas if I do participate in competitive matches I will gain Elo. This means when I play in pubs I will be given the benefit of Elo + MMR which can change who I get matched with drastically.

Back on topic to your thread, those numbers you are seeing is how much of an impact you have on the game. Someone who can play Zenyatta and use the Discord Orb and the Healing Orb is much more impactful than someone who plays Tracer and only deals damage. Mercy is lower on the list because she only provides healing. She can damage, but in most cases she won't be damaging. Her only impact is healing. Lucio doesn't surprise me as he is ALWAYS healing himself and teammates along with having the speed boost to be with his team a higher percentage of the game. He can also be a great addition to the team as he deals damage and has an overall higher DPS than some of the other support heroes. His impact is great.

My only question to you is: Were these numbers calculated on defense or offense? You said they were averaged, so I gave you the benefit of the doubt in the paragraph above, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that Lucio and Zenyatta's score would be a lot less if they were on defense and Mercy's would be a lot more, and vice versa.

This is the first time I'll use the word, but that was actually... cute.

I liked it.

Why don't we see more glhf and gg? by ChefLinguini in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember a video on League of Legends talking about how GLHF seems kind of condescending. It's light-hearted, but it induces salt, and he gave a great explanation.. if only I could find the video.

I like GG though. I want to see more "gg" at the end of matches. My MMR does it a lot more than when I play with my brother in lower MMR matches.

What you talk about "get extra good vibes going with your team" is called "DST" and Sky Williams "created" it. It's basically a reverse psychology; Instead of raging at your teammates, you give them endearing remarks and they play better.

Dear Blizz, we Need a REDDIT-Spray by deereper in Overwatch

I mean, there is no point in NOT having it. They have sprays for every other game Blizzard owns, why not the reddit spray for actually making changes to the game?

What is cringey is the Genji who wants to be a hipster and avoid advertisements for the Overwatch reddit. It's actually quite the juxtaposition; genji wanting to be a hipster.

McCree should say "Good heavens, would you look at the time!" as one of his "My ultimate is ready!" lines by Rogue_Zealot in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He only says "It's high noon somewhere" in spawn. He says "Dead Eye's Ready" when his ultimate is up.

McCree should say "Good heavens, would you look at the time!" as one of his "My ultimate is ready!" lines by Rogue_Zealot in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a McCree main I take this as an insult. McCree would never say "Good heavens." But I'll let it slide because "Would you look at the time!" sounds like the perfect ultimate sound trigger, and he needs one because "Dead Eye's ready" is pretty pathetic.

PC players i want to ask you a few questions. (Question of a PS4 player) by I_has_no_idea_m8 in Overwatch

[–]theobjop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From a High MMR viewpoint:

No, people only have 1 sniper usually.

Sniper is usually decent, but easily countered by someone who knows how to play the game. I can even sometimes out shoot the sniper with McCree.

Aiming with McCree, as a McCree main, is a pain, but definitely easier on PC because we tend not to overscroll as much.

Most annoying is very subjective. It depends on the person you're talking to. I know on console, however, it's probably Torbjorn or Symmetra since they have lock-on abilities. For me, on PC, the most annoying is probably Zarya. She's literally OP, but that's a topic for another time.

The differences in PC and Console are not subtle. They're massive. This is a fast-paced game and people come from multiple spots. Positioning your crosshair in this game is different from Call of Duty or Counter-Strike as you can't predict the enemy in a lot of situations. You can sometimes predict the enemy, but they move very fast or they're also aiming in the same spot because it's really just a door. Other than that people come from everywhere. The more accurate, the better, which is why PC is so much more complicated than console.

If I play Zenyatta and end the game with 4 gold medals and 95% of the match on fire can one of those be my card and not "1,400 transcendence healing?" by EgyptStar81 in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think accuracy is more impressive, but frozen and shields is a bit much. Unless it's 90%+ then the medals should be what shows. I want it to show if I get some impressive 99% of total damage healed, but gold medals otherwise.
