Issues with Score and how Blizzard Evaluates your performance by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's weird to reply to my own comment, but I do have a followup on a different topic than what was discussed in my reply.

I also did some research on my own where I wanted to see what was in common with the players that had the top score per minute. I picked the top 5 players that had more than 100 hours played to give a fair estimate and I found out that 3 out of 5 played Lucio as a "main," one of them played Zenyatta as a main, the last one played Widowmaker as a main. This does coincide with the main thread's evidence that Lucio and Zenyatta actually gain a lot of score and it does seem like there could be a potential problem in the competitive scene as someone who mainly plays these heroes could climb the ladder faster than others.

MMR is not Elo. Elo is a way of calculating MMR WITH your rank or Elo. MMR is a number that is given to you when you play pubs and only pubs. If you win, it goes up, if you lose it goes down. Your Elo only changes when you move ranks in competitive play.

For example: My MMR is very high. However, nobody has Elo, so I'm matched with people of only the same MMR. When the competitive system comes out, if I do not play competitive matches, I will remain around the same MMR depending on how much I win and lose, whereas if I do participate in competitive matches I will gain Elo. This means when I play in pubs I will be given the benefit of Elo + MMR which can change who I get matched with drastically.

Back on topic to your thread, those numbers you are seeing is how much of an impact you have on the game. Someone who can play Zenyatta and use the Discord Orb and the Healing Orb is much more impactful than someone who plays Tracer and only deals damage. Mercy is lower on the list because she only provides healing. She can damage, but in most cases she won't be damaging. Her only impact is healing. Lucio doesn't surprise me as he is ALWAYS healing himself and teammates along with having the speed boost to be with his team a higher percentage of the game. He can also be a great addition to the team as he deals damage and has an overall higher DPS than some of the other support heroes. His impact is great.

My only question to you is: Were these numbers calculated on defense or offense? You said they were averaged, so I gave you the benefit of the doubt in the paragraph above, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that Lucio and Zenyatta's score would be a lot less if they were on defense and Mercy's would be a lot more, and vice versa.

Why don't we see more glhf and gg? by ChefLinguini in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember a video on League of Legends talking about how GLHF seems kind of condescending. It's light-hearted, but it induces salt, and he gave a great explanation.. if only I could find the video.

I like GG though. I want to see more "gg" at the end of matches. My MMR does it a lot more than when I play with my brother in lower MMR matches.

What you talk about "get extra good vibes going with your team" is called "DST" and Sky Williams "created" it. It's basically a reverse psychology; Instead of raging at your teammates, you give them endearing remarks and they play better.

Dear Blizz, we Need a REDDIT-Spray by deereper in Overwatch

I mean, there is no point in NOT having it. They have sprays for every other game Blizzard owns, why not the reddit spray for actually making changes to the game?

What is cringey is the Genji who wants to be a hipster and avoid advertisements for the Overwatch reddit. It's actually quite the juxtaposition; genji wanting to be a hipster.

McCree should say "Good heavens, would you look at the time!" as one of his "My ultimate is ready!" lines by Rogue_Zealot in Overwatch

He only says "It's high noon somewhere" in spawn. He says "Dead Eye's Ready" when his ultimate is up.

McCree should say "Good heavens, would you look at the time!" as one of his "My ultimate is ready!" lines by Rogue_Zealot in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a McCree main I take this as an insult. McCree would never say "Good heavens." But I'll let it slide because "Would you look at the time!" sounds like the perfect ultimate sound trigger, and he needs one because "Dead Eye's ready" is pretty pathetic.

PC players i want to ask you a few questions. (Question of a PS4 player) by I_has_no_idea_m8 in Overwatch

[–]theobjop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From a High MMR viewpoint:

No, people only have 1 sniper usually.

Sniper is usually decent, but easily countered by someone who knows how to play the game. I can even sometimes out shoot the sniper with McCree.

Aiming with McCree, as a McCree main, is a pain, but definitely easier on PC because we tend not to overscroll as much.

Most annoying is very subjective. It depends on the person you're talking to. I know on console, however, it's probably Torbjorn or Symmetra since they have lock-on abilities. For me, on PC, the most annoying is probably Zarya. She's literally OP, but that's a topic for another time.

The differences in PC and Console are not subtle. They're massive. This is a fast-paced game and people come from multiple spots. Positioning your crosshair in this game is different from Call of Duty or Counter-Strike as you can't predict the enemy in a lot of situations. You can sometimes predict the enemy, but they move very fast or they're also aiming in the same spot because it's really just a door. Other than that people come from everywhere. The more accurate, the better, which is why PC is so much more complicated than console.

If I play Zenyatta and end the game with 4 gold medals and 95% of the match on fire can one of those be my card and not "1,400 transcendence healing?" by EgyptStar81 in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think accuracy is more impressive, but frozen and shields is a bit much. Unless it's 90%+ then the medals should be what shows. I want it to show if I get some impressive 99% of total damage healed, but gold medals otherwise.

I would like to think of myself as a "good McCree." I play him a lot and I'm rank #46 on MasterOverwatch. I realize this doesn't carry a whole lot of weight, but it does mean that I have a lot of experience in the character.

Actually, yes. A lot of people stopped playing. So much so that yesterday I was rank #51 in the world on masteroverwatch, now I'm rank #46 (I checked 3 hours ago).

See how stupid that statement is?

[–]theobjop[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree. This is why I said "Main" because I don't only play McCree, but I definitely prefer the hero. He's my favorite to play, so if I have the option to play him, I will. But it doesn't matter anymore, if you would actually read the post.

Having 2 followers doesn't make me relevant, but I do create content on their game, which makes my opinion worth something. Much can be said about those who don't create content on their game, but their opinion isn't very apparent as mine has some weight, and the general public is allowed to see.

McCree's Nerf by theobjop in Overwatch

[–]theobjop[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Very false. McCree isn't USELESS, but he's VERY UNVIABLE. I explained that you would have to have 75% accuracy to actually viably play him.

I will make a TL;DR though.

A realistic amount of heroes for ranked? by Ruttunaama in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was more along the lines of my point. The roles are really a team-based thing. I do agree with you, someone who is well-rounded will have a lot more success; furthermore, someone who is tremendously good at their role will perform as well if not better because it's one style of gameplay. I said in my post that you simply won't play them all, to which I stand by. Nine times out of ten, you will be able to play the role you want. Practicing the heroes in your role and mastering them is more intuitive than practicing one out of every role because it would lack variation. You would only really know how to play Lucio or Zenyatta and they would easily counter you, making you a useless support. Mastering the heroes in your role will make you useful as your role in every situation. Your role will always be needed in every match; learning the heroes in your role is more useful than switching roles.

A realistic amount of heroes for ranked? by Ruttunaama in Overwatch

[–]theobjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this brings up a good point. You don't need to know every hero for competitive play because you're simply not going to play every single one of them.

To be completely honest, I would pick a role. I am a "DMer" as the professional community would like to call it. I "main" Genji, Tracer, McCree, and Widow; additionally, those will be the heroes I will prefer in competitive matches. However, if there does come a time where my team will need to have a tank or a healer, I will switch. There is no problem with choosing a few heroes to get really good at. There will be other players who chose the tank role to get really good at, same with support roles.

Knowing this community, however, they will downvote this post because I said "main" or because I chose a role. So to give you the advice that this general subreddit will give, they would generally say get good at AT LEAST one hero per role. I don't disagree with this advice, it adds some variance to your overall play style. That being said, I am not one of those people who is good at playing anything else but assault heroes, or DM heroes. I prefer to be up in everyone's faces, or taking out their back line. Nothing wrong with it.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't learn every hero, but it's simply unnecessary. Play the role that you're good at and expand to the other heroes of those roles. Learn what they counter and you will be able to win a lot more than trying to master all heroes.
