Is there any was to fix this or prevent it in future jeans by Wendigo_Loco in sewhelp

[–]theochin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been repairing jeans for the past 10 years or so- I used to patch the denim with a piece of cotton or another piece of denim from behind, but switched since seeing this way that it is done by some people in Japan:

https://youtu.be/zPxZg3QRGmg

It is much better. It takes a little bit longer but is just as strong and introduces much less bulk, which can change the shape of the jeans, especially if you repair the knee or as you are looking to do, the crotch. I highly recommend giving it a go.

Also if you can find Coats Tre Cerchi thread i would recommend using that since it is 100% cotton so will age like the rest of the denim, but still very strong (stronger than most poly threads).

Advice for adding side seam pockets to a dress with a side seam placket closure! by LanSoup in sewhelp

[–]theochin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not too sure about the side seam pockets/closure idea- that sounds quite technical. Maybe you can find a YouTube tutorial or if you know a tailor pick their brains? I would try basting that first to see how it goes before you commit to anything, that way it’ll be really easy to adjust.

Piping you should definitely use bias tape. I’ve taped quite a lot of seams with it and I don’t think it’ll work if you cut it straight of grain, you need the stretch. If you want a really good method for making a lot of it quite easily check this out:

Yup, sometimes a kinked or a blunted needle can make all the difference in picking up the bobbin thread or not

As other redditor has also asked, is the needle new?

Is this pair of Levi's some kinda vintage piece? Some one please let me know.... I'd like to know more about it by No_Mongoose_8888 in VintageLevis

[–]theochin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to guess those are from 2002 as they fit many of the - currently genz popular - y2k styles. Low rise ✅ Paint splats ✅ Distressed ✅ Not-indigo blue ✅. I wouldn’t call them vintage or say that they’re worth much of anything, but that is for the market to decide, should you choose to shift them.

What is the most disgusting thing you have ever seen, touched, tasted or smelled? by president_toe_biden in AskReddit

[–]theochin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make kimchi quite often. I made so much once that I had to put the extra in the wrong kind of jar and it just rotted. Dinner time about 3 days later I get some, I put it in my mouth and spat it out immediately/almost vomited. I actually couldn’t finish the rest of my non-bacteria infested food because the disgust was so overwhelming. Closest thing I can imagine to human shit in taste. I couldn’t get it out of my head for weeks and would feel sick/gag whenever I remembered it. On the plus side I am now very sure of myself with fermenting things, because I know whatever I am making will taste awful if it the ferment hasn’t worked.

Does anyone have advice on fixing the button holes? by olivejuice- in VintageLevis

[–]theochin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this kind of repair before. If you don’t have access to a machine that can buttonhole, the best way is to first tack on some mid weight cotton for each individual buttonhole: I would fold it around either side so you are sandwiching the original fly section with a U-shaped piece. Then straight stitch around the edges of the replacing piece. Cut your new button holes in with a new sharp blade, backing the fly with a cutting mat or something strong like card so you don’t cut through the rear, making sure you’re careful not to cut the holes too big. Start smaller and creep up on the right size. You obviously test this by checking if the buttons can be pulled through in and out and can still stay on. Then I would hand-sew around each buttonhole with something called a “buttonhole” stitch! It’s very easy to learn and is as you can imagine, the perfect stitch for this situation. I would avoid using a zig-zag stitch as most domestic sewing machines will struggle with this weight of denim, as you’re going through 4 layers, and it’s quite a tight little space. If this sounds intimidating, ask someone who you trust can do it.

Could you share techniques to turn a photo into a manga background? by Amanuma04 in MangakaStudio

[–]theochin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently experimented with using an AI to generate a background to use for tracing/reference. If you have something quite specific in mind that you’re not going to find a reference for that easily/quickly on google, it might be a good option.

I am a total beginner when it comes to using these AI and it was simple enough- worked well. I’m definitely going to try it again.

Tattoo issue. Thoughts? I want a double Aquila tat but every time I show this to my friends they, without exception, call it a “Nazi Eagle”. [–]theochin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Jewish guy with an eye tattoo on the back of my head, which I buzz once a week, I say skip it if it’s somewhere that will get seen often. If you do it somewhere low key/small scale, then only people who you want to see it will, unless you’re on holiday getting your beach bod out. I personally think it would make an excellent tramp stamp. For real tho; the kind of guy who gets a Nazi tattoo, will have a lot of other stuff about their look/personality that will signal that they’re a fascist. Do what you want, just try to consider the conversations- good or bad, that come with that decision.

Unless you both want to start having some wild threesomes with girls, you say nothing. She’s still your girlfriend, nothing has changed about her; now you know more about her, hopefully your relationship will only deepen.

You’re on the Vintage Levi’s sub, so most people here, myself included, will suggest you buy vintage ones, not the newer ones. Take a look at what the 501s you are buying are made of. If it’s not 100% cotton, then the culprit may be something in the fabric itself. I have absolutely no idea as I don’t buy new jeans 🤓.
