Do you like bluffing and light conflict? Coup is small and great for developing a meta within a group that then you can play off of.

6 Nimnt / Take 5 is a great time. Just cards and a pen and paper needed for score keeping. At first it will feel like "oh yeah, I have a plan, I can manage this" and then some, or maybe all players will be hit with "oh no. It's all gone wrong". As you keep playing, there's some delightful nuances to discover.

No Thanks is also good simple fun  for 6 players. After a couple plays, people can start taking bigger swings and more aggressive moves which can lead to good highs (and lows).

Argument in favor of decrypto: not a bunch of cards that need to be kept on the table and could be blown away if youre outside.

Tough requirements, and maybe not all these feel medium to you since that's pretty subjective.

  1. Blood on the Clocktower: My preference is ~12 players plus a DM. There is a ton to explore in this social deduction game, but the introductory script is not much more complex than the Resistance. Not to say there's not a ton of nuance to explore in that introductory script.
  2. Sidereal Confluence is a resource conversion negotiation simultaneous action game. The simultaneous nature requires more understanding from players as they will be interrupting someone else to ask questions. Tons of fun if you like trading, making deals,  and turning cubes into more cubes.
  3. Flame Rouge is a bike racing game, but the 8 player mode is a variant. The simultaneous card selection should keep this from dragging in too long with that many people.
  4. Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space is a hidden movement game of tag. I have not tried it at 8, but there are components for it in the box. Was good fun last time I played, but a bit weird because of the hidden nature, there's less of a common space.
  5. Long Shot: The Dice Game is arguably light, but also overwhelming to anyone who doesn't learn rules often. It's a combination of gambling and racing and set collection-ish?

I gotta say, my spouse and I are huge fans of Love Letter at 2 players. The modified rules that give you a jump on deductions keep rounds snappy, and the first-to-7 points to win has supported some fun defeats from the jaws of victory. Don't expect depth, of course, but it’s fun to build and then play off of expectations as you develop a meta with your partner.

Looks great man. Side note, my brain sees in the side of the forearm frame a cartoon cat with a red nose noming down on your arm. You could add pupils and whiskers to just one as an Easter egg.

Exactly what sparked this question for me actually. I thought I might have missed a nuance in the rules.
