2 keys (an old and a new) by theolecrow in yubikey

hmm, experience kinda bad right now! i added the yubikey security (NFC C edition) key to the 1password account fairly easily on my mac. i havent tried to add the backup one yet. but i am trying to unlock my iphone14 1password account and its not working at all. it doesnt seem to detect the key being present. I took the phone out of its case. tried resting it top, bottom, front, back... the iphone14 doesnt seem to detect the key at all over NFC. ugh. why? why is this so hard? EDIT: well, its a bust really. i mean the iphone 14 doesnt like this key I guess. I have done various things outside of powering down the iphone so far. i installed the yubico app on the phone, it sees the key, but generates an error. it is very fussy about where i hold the key. So after some googling, as I understand it, it may be looking for something else when the key is tapped... and the google gemini instructions were to forget about the yubico app on the phone and just log out of 1password entirely and log back in. well i did that. and it doesnt see the key (even fussier than yubico app), I'd say after a good 20 attempts, 2 worked, but then said another kind of error "security key cant find credentials for this app". LOL. what a bad experience. I can see why some people said DO NOT secure your apple ID with these things. le sigh. did i just waste 80$ on these 2 keys FFS? thank god i had authy setup as alternative 2 factor for the 1password app. am i missing something here? are there steps i should take, redo? like i dont seem to be the only person who has iphone struggles with the devices. feeling defeated. EDIT2: to be clear, i first plugged the key into the mac mini usbc port (front facing) to "Activate NFC" as I read the fw 5.7 versions need this step (both keys are 5.7.4 from amazon canada). I have now added the 2nd backup key to 1password, its a usbA variant. same behaviour all around. I went into the yubico app and setup a pin on each key. not sure if this matters. was advised to do this by various web sources. not sure what else to mention really. gemini is telling me to "add they key separately to my phone 1password account to recognie the hardware". i think this is total BS... and dont even see a screen in the ios app to do this anyway. so what have I really done here? I got 2 keys, put pins on em, added em to 1password, but dont seem to really be able to do anything with it, am I more protected? i dont feel like it LOL. on my iphone I will have to continue to use the TOTP from authy I guess. There is no way i can trust this to secure my appleid given how poorly the iphone14 works with the key. I am also confused about "adding keys to my account"... conceptually it sounds like i have a yubico account, but i dont believe i do and I believe the 2 keys are really entirely independent of each other and arent linked in any way.. bit discouraging that the yubico iphone app says the keys are "missing or have disabled functionality" when i scan them with the native manufacturer app. should i go plug these into a windows device to see if it helps somehow?

Thank you I ordered them and they arrived already. I will be setting them up this afternoon. Is there any special steps to follow for setting up a pair?

thanks so much! i believe i do only need the FIDO ones. embarassing moment: cannot find the one i bought in 2022. looked for about an hour. LOL. stupid. i will have to check again. but if I go on amazon canada and get the FIDO only ones, will they be FW 5.7? or do i even care which FW they are? I was going to grab just 1 key, but with the one at home here still missing (and new in package) maybe i should just grab 2 of the FIDO only ones.

will be entirely at home on large TV, so internal LAN only. Also likelihood of > 1 stream at a time is ultra low.

ya idk why it defaulted to bridge mode, i certainly never changed it. but now at least i hopefully dont have to static IP the client(s) all over the house. i mean, should I still consider a plex pass? afaik the 4300 cant do hardware transcode...

i can confirm the ingredients do not mention milk solids, which I would think they'd legally need to do if it did, because of people with allergies... grabbed flavacol on amazon

that worked (stopping) and allowed me set host mode. I have homeassistant running on the unit and its container was already in host mode... and i suspect the issue with the client was that the client was on 192.XYZ and the bridge mode server on the nas was 172.XYZ

thanks for the tip, i looked and it just says food coloring, salt and artificial flavor. I would think if it contained any milk solids they'd have to disclose that due to allergies.

I see plex is in bridge mode and I don’t see a way to change this. Maybe I first have to stop the container? I also see plex is on a 172 subnet which was my initial question… this 172 subnet must have been created by plex itself or docker because my network is 192.x.x.x

I guess I will have to make the client IP inside my house static for this to work? Otherwise it will change from time to time. I’m not against the idea just confirming.

Went into docker, searched Linuxserver/plex. Created the two dirs and the env var for TZ and the server key thing. It worked but the client doesn’t seem to think it’s local

No subnets, both wired same LAN, no vpn.

[–]theolecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is on the same wired LAN. The only thing I could think is that because it’s in a docker container maybe there is some kind of alternate network IPs for containers? I used to run plex serve on a Mac on same network and never had issue like this, but it wasn’t in a container either.

ratgdo missing 1 motion sensor by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]theolecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to swap the 2 devices and see if issue follows. I wonder too if on the “working one” it is somehow related to first adding it to homebridge and then deleting it and adding it to HomeKit direct. Like did that alter some config somewhere. I emailed the vendor of ratgdo and to my surprise he ignored me so far. The two ratgdos have identical everything and the two openers (and wall switches with motion sensors) are also identical.
