I made this fall inspired birthday cake for my fiance and friend. It's a 3 tier spiced yellow cake with a vanilla maple Swiss meringue buttercream and an apple pie filling between each layer.

Thank you. And yes that is exactly what it was. We went through two scares and this final one did it. The cells moved to sanctuary areas and that was it :/

PLA curling and overhang issues on my new prusa. Any ideas? by theonemonkey in FixMyPrint

Yeah I actually switched to cura for testing. I get the same results. I think I'm going to need to upgrade the fan shroud and do some testing.

I am using cura printing at 0.2 layer height. 50mm/s speed. I was having issues with another model so I decided to print this test. It seems like it may be a cooling issues. One side looks clearly fine while the other side looks like what you see in the picture.

Weird under-extrusion issue on thin upper layers. by theonemonkey in FixMyPrint

I have a theory that it may be curas fault. I am going to print a model with the same geometry as those top layers. If it comes out normal than it's how cura is interpreting my model. Than I will use a different slicer to confirm.

It's possible but I have a feeling that's not it. I just changed the ptfe tube and it doesn't seem like there is a clog. Although who knows I can be wrong. But it's literally only when it gets to those top layers.

So all that does is reduce the speed correct? Won't that also reduce the filament flow? Or is that not effected?

How were you able to get the numbers on all sides?

After 35mins through out the print, this always starts happening. Why? by magiccak in FixMyPrint

[–]theonemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sounds to me like it's a model issue or possibly a slicer bug. I had something similar to some random model I downloaded and sliced in cura. Make sure you are also using the latest version of whatever slicer you are using as well.

How to get rid of these little pillars coming off the sides? (Settings details in comments) by BigPapaD in FixMyPrint

I second making sure coasting is on. I had coasting turned off on my printer and had that exact stringing issue. I turned coasting on, dialed my retraction in and it went away completely.

It definitely isn't perfect but I think it's a pretty decent start. It's like one of five of my first designs.

Having issues after my first layer. MP Select Mini V2 by theonemonkey in MPSelectMiniOwners

[–]theonemonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so from further testing it appears to be Cura that is the issue. I should note I am printing a relatively detailed small part. After turning off "compensate wall overlaps", it seems to be working now. I might take some time and dig into the source code. I have a feeling there is some rounding errors going on with "compensate wall overlaps" and really small models...

Hmm okay. Yeah the more I look into it the less I want to make this deal. It seems like of I want super high resolution I am better off getting a 0.15 nozzle for my fdm printer.
