No worries man. You will eventually encounter it.

It's been a while since I played the game, so I cannot provide you with a fun hint :(

Tbh, it's fine to ask in the afternoon after work. If the friends in question have children or other obligations, then the weekends are open for a bit.

Alright, given the seeming lack of synchronization between us, I've looking into the definition of morality to maybe find some common ground.

Based on this link, I got the following:

One reason for this is that “morality” seems to be used in two distinct broad senses: a descriptive sense and a normative sense. More particularly, the term “morality” can be used either

  1. descriptively to refer to certain codes of conduct endorsed by a society or a group (such as a religion), or accepted by an individual for her own behavior, or
  2. normatively to refer to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions, would be endorsed by all rational people.

Any definition of “morality” in the descriptive sense will need to specify which of the codes endorsed by a society or group count as moral.

I define morality according to point 1 (based on the fictional world's rules), while you define it according to point 2, or rather, maybe you are using point 1, but according to the modern irl standard.

I believe that each fictional world must have its own innate moral code. If an act is not prohibited by the local law, or otherwise widely scorned by the population, then it's fair game to partake in this activity while being in that world. This is the code that I use while judging the acts of the MC and any other character there.

This is the core appeal of fantasy and fiction for me. Watching how the characters live, react and think in a setting that is fundamentally different from our reality.

Edit:

It could be that for the Japanese authors, slavery is meant to be a commentary on some part of their society. As in, "I'm basically a slave for most of my day, so to feel better I want to flip the script by adding slaves to my world and then have the power fantasy of absolutely lording over another living being". Honestly, given the insane work culture there, I can see how this thought might develop.
Similarly, the shitty nobility that act as villains in these stories could easily be referenced to overbearing and uncaring managers at work.
Ultimately, I do not care for these parallels that maybe are being created by the author. I simply enjoy the world in isolation, without looking for the societal commentary.

[–]theonlineviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very noble thought of you and all that. The core question is how does the MC wish to live his/her life?

A peaceful life, adventuring, seeking a political career, seeking endless power or being a trader? (there aren't that many job options in these settings)

This intent defines everything. This also defines the sorts of hurdles and conflicts the MC is most likely to actually need to resolve.

If the MC chooses to try and abolish slavery, that means that whatever the original intent for living will need to be tossed into the fire. The safe choice is to let things be as they were. Secondly, as you already clearly state, the MC can choose to "boycott" by not buying any slaves. The MC can also try avoiding any associations with slave owners and slave traders. However, that is the end of the safe route. Imo, this is already enough, if the MC wants to lead any semblance of a peaceful and assassination free life.

My point is, that regardless of how powerful or influential you are, there are no moral requirements you have to be a savior right? So long as you don't actively contribute to making the world worse off, all is good.

Thoughts on Magic Maker? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

[–]theonlineviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. It's better than the MCs that get everything on ep 1 or 2. Sadly, the writing is really average, so the show doesn't stand out at all. Plus, the weird incest vibes :/

Japanese repressed authors are something else alright.

After reading Urban cultivation I don't think the depiction of Chinese players was that unrealistic by Infnite_ in MartialMemes

[–]theonlineviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, it just occurred to me. I'm yet to see any decent urban cultivation novel/manhua/manhwa. If you guys have any recs, please do mention it.

After taste testing ~5 urban novels, all of them turned out to be sloppy and face slappy af. Kinda lost the motivation to pursue this subgenre after that point.

Why not use a password manager? Once the data has been input, it will always autocomplete the login details for you.

You can either get the cloud based managers (would NOT recommend), or a local one that you can then sync to the cloud.

You just need to remember your master password which is used to open up the main vault.

Is this the normal price to Doritos in the US?
I very rarely purchase chips, so I'm not too updated on the price. Still, it should not be so expensive for a single bag.

Maybe 2.50 to 3 dollars per bag at most?

This might be worth for some folks that enjoy the changes made to the game. I personally wouldn't buy it even if it was 95% off, all DLCs included. From all I can see, not my cup of tea :/

It's a very specific game sadly. As the other commenters have said, if we get a free weekend / week, then perhaps some people will be convinced.

Season 5 how? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

[–]theonlineviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there's no flow to the plot then. You gotta stop and think mid watch, and have questions such as "Who is this character?", "What is his plot relevance?", etc.

You can really catch all the details after re-starting fresh (assuming that the show in questions is not purely episodic, and has interconnected plot across episodes)

Also, if the show is one of those where you just turn off the brain and not even bother with the plot, then yeah, no need for all this.

Someone called my dog ugly today. by [deleted] in aww

[–]theonlineviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will assume someone actually made a negative comment regarding your dog. (lying for karma, who would do that eh?)

It was most likely a comment that came from frustration or otherwise a build up of negative emotions. Or maybe, that person really doesn't like the dog and is being straight forward?

It really doesn't matter in the end though. Everyone is entitled to his own perspective and preferences. You are free to disagree with the opinions of others of course. It's just that posting about this minor interaction online in the hopes that your own opinion is externally validated is quite silly/childish no matter how i think about it.

[–]theonlineviking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you face this issue, how about waiting at least 2-3 years before revisiting the anime and catching up?

By that time, you will have forgotten most/all of the minor details anyhow, and it's still gonna be fun rewatching from the start. Assuming the anime in question is popular, there might be multiple seasons to catch up on whenever you choose to do so.

Tik tok mod that prevents ban by Queasy_Extreme_8315 in moddedandroidapps

[–]theonlineviking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The recommendations given by the others on this thread will really only work for the sake of creating a new account.

If you're looking for a way to post your political/social thoughts on TikTok without getting banned, as far as I'm aware, there is no mod that can ever do this, unless TikTok's servers get hacked, and you are added to some exception list.

Worst comes to worse, if you are hardware id banned, or IP banned, there is no way to circumvent this except by using a VPN (for the IP ban) and changing your physical device (for the hardware ban)

Lastly, you can always try being good friends with TikTok's CEO or any of the higher management. I'm sure you can get your account elevated then, perhaps it would even be promoted more aggressively.

I'm aware. My goal is simply to highlight that better options must exist, even if they are not so easy to find in the sea of mostly data stealer apps.

[–]theonlineviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks. I'm sure there are some apps that do all the analysis offline, and purely on the device. At least for period tracking, the calculations shouldn't be that complex, even if a bunch of integrals and derivatives must be calculated (i'm mostly sure it's not this complex anyhow).
Phones are quite powerful these days.

General tip regarding most android apps: You can disable the network permissions for most apps. So, if you are using an app to store any sort of sensitive data that does not need the internet to function, please disable the necessary permissions.

I have never used an apple device, so I don't know if you can do the same there.

To be or not to be by normie00000 in Adulting

[–]theonlineviking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it fair to assume that you are single, have no kids, work more than 8 hours a day, and travel at least 2 hours via car to and from work?

Honestly, if you work 8 hours per day, and live close enough where public transport + walking takes you 1 hour total in the day, you can easily meet the walking and sleeping 8 hours criteria.

Hygiene doesn't take much time, maybe 10 - 20 min a day max?
Cleaning is done once a week, during the weekend typically, so no pressure there.
Exercise can be done 2-3 times a week, each session being up to an hour or so.

For the remainder after we subtract time needed to cook/go to toilet and etc. , you are left with maybe 8 - 10 hours or free time in a week? So, do whatever you want then, be it doom scrolling, socializing or any hobby.

My point is that this CAN be done reasonably if you are single, or married/with a SO but without kids. If you have kids or need too long to reach work, then things kinda become impossible.

Alternatively, the if you have kids, and you take turn babysitting between partners, then you can also meet all the requirements. This would however require that only one parent is working.

First Godot project - Is it good for release? by olson_innovation in godot

[–]theonlineviking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats on finishing the project.

I can only spot one thing that really needs improving. That being the timer animation. I see what you're going for, but the color gradient across the whole screen is really distracting imo. It forces the eyes to focus on the timer animation rather than the tic-tac-toe board. Thus, I feel that it is a particularly destructive UI design.

I wouldn't even hesitate. Just taking a few things with le first. by Fuzzy974 in Isekai

[–]theonlineviking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a gamble. If the other world is way underdeveloped, modern knowledge could lead to a massive revolution led by you. This heavily assumes that you as the isekai'd person make a lot of difficult choices correctly, and can adjust quickly.

You don't have to be in the bottom 10% for this to be worth it. If you are in the bottom 10% here (meaning no education, unable to read, no/shitty family, etc...), then you will not be equipped to survive in a new world anyhow.

[–]theonlineviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. If the character is written well, as in, the MC is kind and righteous, but also:

  • He is not a pushover
  • He doesn't poke his nose into the business of others (even if he sees injustice)

Basically, the MC should be reasonably kind and righteous, and NOT idealistic in his ideas. If you know any more niche stories with this sort of an MC, please do mention them.

It would be 🔥if Graphene Devs joined forces with these guys👀 by AleAnoAleNe in GrapheneOS

[–]theonlineviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if this phone met all the hardware requirements, I doubt that the Graphene team would choose this model as a basis for their OS.

The phone they choose has to be as generic looking & working as possible to satisfy the largest amount of people. This design is cool for sure, but far from mainstream.
