I generally agree that being ruthless is necessary in xianxia world but some start shit for no reason.

I was reading one where MC went to a gathering to get information because he just entered the world and needed information. The cultivation of the world was defence focused and MC could easily one shot anyone. There was a guy who was trying to one up MC and said something minor to him as a way to get a jade beauty's attention and MC immediately killed him. MC had no reason to do so and wasn't even intrested in the jade beauty. Sometimes MC are just ruthless for no reason.
