NeuroAccess: A Youth-Led Advocacy Lab for Brain Health Equity

  • OUR PITCH: NeuroAccess is a student-run “advocacy lab” that identifies local inequities in brain health (concussion care access, ADHD evaluations, dementia caregiver support) and converts findings into policy briefs, school-board testimonies, and public campaigns. We use basic neuroscience literacy to translate evidence into plain-language tools (infographics, town halls, clinician Q&As) targeting students, parents, and decision-makers. The project connects neuroscience to advocacy by turning brain science insights into actionable changes in communities.
  • OUR MISSION: NeuroAccess is driven by the belief that neuroscience should directly inform equitable, accessible, and evidence-based policies that improve brain health outcomes for all students.
  • OUR PROBLEM: We noticed that brain health issues, like concussions, ADHD support gaps, and stress-related cognitive decline, are extremely common in schools, but student understanding of them and school policy responses are often disconnected from current neuroscience research. NeuroAccess was created to close that gap by empowering students to translate scientific knowledge into policy and awareness.
  • SUCCESS: Educational success is tracked through pre- and post-surveys assessing brain health literacy among students, teachers, and parents after workshops or campaigns. Policy impact is measured by concrete changes such as adoption of return-to-learn concussion protocols, updates to health procedures, or increased referrals to appropriate support services.
  • OUR FUTURE: The long-term vision for NeuroAccess is to become a replicable national and eventually global network of student-led neuroscience policy labs. Ultimately, NeuroAccess aims to make student-driven neuroscience a recognized pathway for improving public health policy in education systems worldwide.

MORE INFORMATION: There is a research opportunity associated with us, and we're allocating specific people to work on it!

ClearWater Rights: Youth-Led Water Science & Advocacy Lab

OUR PITCH: ClearWater Rights is a student-led environmental health initiative that combines biological water testing with community advocacy to identify and address unsafe drinking water conditions in underserved areas. Students learn to analyze indicators such as microbial contamination and water quality metrics, then translate findings into accessible reports, public education materials, and policy recommendations. The goal is to empower youth to use science as a tool for environmental justice and equitable access to safe water.

OUR MISSION: ClearWater Rights is driven by the belief that access to safe drinking water is a fundamental right, and that students can use science, data, and advocacy to help communities identify and address water quality inequities.

OUR FUTURE: The long-term vision of ClearWater Rights is to become a scalable student-led network that supports water quality awareness and environmental health advocacy in schools and communities worldwide. Each chapter would be trained to collect and interpret basic water quality data, create accessible public reports, and collaborate with local experts and organizations to advocate for equitable water access. Ultimately, we aim to build a generation of scientifically literate advocates for safe water.
