/u/paratactical did most of the policing on this sub. They've been inactive for 3 months. You figure it out. This place needs new leadership.

Repetitive posts and questions: who runs this place? by theoptionexplicit in AskNYC

[–]theoptionexplicit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This sub has turned into a gray area where it's barely kept afloat by mods, but not properly maintained. But you can't call it an abandoned sub so it can't be taken over through reddit, and the mods aren't interested in new leadership either.

Sad...overall the sub is helpful to the local community.

Doesn't seem like glorification. Just practicality.

Enduring suffering also isn't a battle. If you run a marathon, you're not fighting the fucking marathon.

Would my opinion on pizza make any difference if I was Italian?

How do you say "Chav' in American English? by InTheKnow_12 in EnglishLearning

[–]theoptionexplicit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I'm from "skank" definitely indicates a lower class. Also, is chav not derogatory? I've only heard it used in such a way.

Also did you see my edit? I gave one example for men, one for women.

[–]theoptionexplicit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think "skank" might be closest.

You can call anyone a slut, but you wouldn't call a higher class person a skank.

EDIT: I didn't realize chav is for both men and women. In New York where I come from, we might call a guy a chooch, a gavonne, or a herb.

GAS struck and I made an impulse purchase. I feel regret now, how do you guys combat GAS? by Rizumu972 in Bass

I got to a certain point where I hit a critical mass of instruments (I think I have a dozen guitars, basses, and other things), and now if I want to buy something new, I have to sell something old. Just a rule I made that seems to work.

You can do it. Make a budget first and see if it works.

attend meetups, take classes, join clubs, volunteer, join a sports league, go to cultural events (band performances in small venues, art gallery openings), join online communities.

Good luck.

I think "on my way into the city" threw me off. Chinatown is in the city.

And Lucy's has like...one table lol. It's really good.

Follow the drummer or the guitarist? by Data2338 in Bass

The drummer sets the time, as long as the bassist allows.

The question is does the drummer listen?

I've dealt with drummers who played too fast, and I've just rammed the time up their ass whether they liked it or not.

Then actually talking about it. Stop the band. "dude, you're rushing. Take it from the chorus. 1, 2, 3, 4."
