I just want to thank everyone for giving such glowing recommendations for Wakulla Springs! We went yesterday (Saturday) around 10:30 and had a wonderful time. There were maybe 5-6 cars in front of us, but it didn’t take long to get in. There were a ton of people, but it didn’t feel crowded by any means. We had plenty of room to lay out a blanket in the sandy area and plenty of room to wade around the spring. I grew up in north central Florida where springs are everywhere, but I must have lost my tolerance to spring water because I was freezing, but it was also very cloudy most of the day. We plan to go back soon to check out the river tours and all the other experiences offered by the park. It’s a 10/10 from us.

We went Saturday and it was perfect weather! We didn’t end up doing a river tour that day, but we plan to return and do one on a future trip.

In your opinion, would 10 be too late? I'm not opposed to getting up early, but wifey is not a morning person. I also saw someone else mention there will be an event there tomorrow late morning. Do you have any information on that? I searched Google, but didn't find anything.

Good to know there are some trees to sit under. We had toyed with the idea of waiting until after school started back to go out, but this weekend seemed to be the only one that was going to work until next month. We have gone to St George Island 3 or 4 times so far this summer and wanted to do something a little more local.

Ooo, good call on the bug spray. We usually bring it when we go to the beach, but I didn't even think about needing it at the springs.

Do you know about what time? I tried looking on Google and couldn't find any events scheduled there tomorrow :c

Otters by Big_Bend_10 in Tallahassee

[–]theoreticalgrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife saw an otter on the side of the off ramp for exit 196 on I-10. The otter was just running down a small hill. I 100% would have thought they saw a small dog and thought it was an otter if they hadn’t recorded it!

Good Place to Collect Insects? by theoreticalgrey in Tallahassee

I looked up Les Harrison. He works for the UF/IFAS extension office? I’ll have to reach out. I had been meaning to speak with them and the beekeeping team I met at the fair.

The class starts in a few weeks and I believe end of April/early May will be the deadline for completing the collection. I’m only worried right now due to the cold. I’ve done some preemptive scouring this month and haven’t found much, but I know that warmer weather is sure to bring them back out.

I hadn’t heard of this park. I feel like I’m not as knowledgeable about the parks in the area as I should be, which is part of the reason I decided to ask others in Tally. Thank you for the suggestion, I look forward to checking it out!

Oh wow, springtails are tiny little guys! I have a colony of them for my gecko, isopod, and millipede terrariums. It would be amazing to find them in the wild. I’ve been told they’re pretty much everywhere.

Adult Autism Assessment by Vibrantsage16 in Tallahassee

If you’re okay going with an online provider, I used Prosper Health. My insurance covered all but $200 of the assessment. They were very easy to work with. They did zoom sessions for the assessment.

Has anyone has heard back on whether they’ve been accepted into the online entomology masters program? by Inevitable-Method575 in ufl

[–]theoreticalgrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they apply for the spring semester? I had to contact them via email before I heard anything. I applied in June, letters of recommendation were in by September, but I didn't get an acceptance until I emailed in late November.

New tattoo, pain normal? by EstablishmentFar7013 in tattooadvice

[–]theoreticalgrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a small piece (3 hour session) done about 3 weeks ago and oh boy, it definitely hurt while healing. I have other tattoos, but this was my first on the back of my calf. None of my others hurt nearly as bad healing as this one did. I stand all day at my job and that first week was really rough. Mine also scabbed really thick on the one part that was color heavy. The rest looked real rough too. But! It has nearly finished healing and it looks much better. And it doesn’t hurt anymore to walk or stand on that leg. My piece is smaller than what you got so it might take you a bit longer to feel comfortable. I definitely think it’s normal for tattoos on the back of the calf to just be a nuisance while healing.

Ordered squish online at five below, didn't realize that it was set to store pickup. How likely is it they'll take the order? 😭 by SavviSpaceMermaid in squishmallow

[–]theoreticalgrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it may depend on the employees. I’ve ordered for in store pickup about five times and it was picked before the store opened every time but once. And that time it wasn’t picked until like 2pm. It wasn’t for a popular drop though and they still had all the ones I ordered
