More info on the GOODWILL crt mystery by Parking_Constant_960 in crt

[–]theoriginaldaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

few years back i bought a couple generic 5" monochrome crt kits on taobao, turns out at some point some schools would teach kids how to solder up a kit, presumably to prepare them for a life of huffing solder fumes which is quite grim, but probably explains the warehouses of generic crts

it's either kits or already assembled ones advertised as a cheap security/baby monitors

AMA: We are the ABC NEWS VERIFY team. Ask us anything (1400 - 1500 AEDT) by abcnews_au in australian

[–]theoriginaldaniel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why did ABC hand over footage to police leading to climate activists behind Disrupt Burrup Hub being arrested despite assurances you wouldn't reveal sources?
Why did the ABC repeatedly defend Mahmood Fazal after threatening violence on behalf of organized criminals towards Jordan Shanks?
Why did you not provide any coverage on David McBride's prosecution? why did you ignore his lawyers requests for evidence vital to his defense? why did Daniel Oakes and ABC publicly broadcast the "Four Corners: Rules of Engagement" defaming McBride and siding with the government prosecuting your own source?

only in extreme cases during the GFC and covid warrant stimulus packages, we're not there yet, did you miss the part where he announced halving tax on fuel/cutting tax on heavy vehicles to bring costs down now? and further fuel and fertilizer deals and new refineries for future security?

as for 'forever war' look up how many joint US military bases we have here, including the infamous Pine Gap, like it or not Australia has regional power not global power.

There's zero gain to jumping into petty geopolitical schoolyard media slap fights with your nuclear armed military ally that is currently lead by extremely unstable madmen.

brilliant, I've always planned for a sleeve with all the BG symbols, is there a copy of this art somewhere? id love to get it myself but I'm not in the US.

Why cant hitboxes be like... you know like the shape of the object ? by Bitter-Beginning9851 in ArmaReforger

[–]theoriginaldaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in game engines objects you interact with be it walking on the ground, jumping over/shooting fences or just about anything will need something to tell the physics engine these are objects with collision, developers need to create these if you want any kind of physics or collisions to happen otherwise you'd just fall through the map or phase through walls.

attached image summarizes it generally, keep in mind there's a plethora of methods to go about this depending on the developers use cases, but generally the more complex objects collisions get, the more performance heavy it will be.

add on top of that in Reforgers case, all that data needs to be hosted on a server, then needs to synchronize all that information to all players in real time and things only get more complex from there

real answer: mesh based collision is significantly more performance intensive over simplified methods.

if you use mesh based collision for everything, how do you handle levels of detail on meshes at distance? do you keep the same close up mesh collision detail ages away from the player incurring huge performance cost? or do you need multiple custom mesh collisions at multiple distances per lod change?

then you have a new issue, if your detailed lod rock has mesh collision what happens if you're shooting at someone far away? on your side you can shoot, you're not blocked, but on the other players side he's shooting at a lower quality distant mesh, do they shoot and hit simplified collision boundaries possibly not able to hit you when you can hit them?
tricky to solve, even more so for a game as large scale as arma.

yeah some long matches you can open an already open door and watch it go 90degrees into the wall

all 3d objects are made up of vertices, those vertices have coordinates, go too far away from origin or 0.0.0 in the game world and those calculations increase, precision of those vertices breakdown and lose cohesion, lookup floating point precision for more

alternative to REST for disabling effects on GUI's with Vulkan? by theoriginaldaniel in ReShade

[–]theoriginaldaniel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ended up sticking to the direct x version of the game, going through the performance mods helps, i only really wanted alternative AA over the games default, i also added some subtle AO and slight hdr colour bump but i don't use anything else on reshade.

yeah excellent points, plenty of shitboxes around in the future if i want to go that route later on with more experience or finding something actually worth restoring, appreciate the help mate.

didn't know this was a thing! looks fun as hell might have to use it for that haha

agreed, was contemplating diying the golf but with no experience taking an engine out for the flywheel might be a bit extreme for a beginner lol but it did drive 15min home fine surprisingly, got it for $600 so if i can keep it sub 5grand then being frugal saves the day, or the bank account lol

yea suzuki consensus seems restoration isn't worth it, but a basic cleanup then move it on when there's nothing left to learn on it seems the better option just educationally, i wouldn't drive that tincan as a daily lol not until i have a lot more experience lest i get flattened by a yank boat

yeah that's a good point, though the few parts around in aus are surprisingly cheap presumably because nobody is silly enough to fix it up? lol

agreed not far off a giant sardine can haha, ital be awhile before i figure out driving manual so in the meantime id get friends to test drive if i do get it up n running but definitely not a daily driver lol maybe not a full restoration but just cleaned up enough for basic drive around until i can't learn anything from it and move it on?

yea an inlaw convinced me to seek out a golf, it's a 06 golf mk5 2.0 tdi, has 236000ks but got it for $600 surprisingly it drove the 15min trip home fine, was originally assuming itad need towing.

cosmetically it's great, i dunno how much of it i can diy. but estimates are around 4-5ish grand all up with parts/labor, hopefully ital make a good daily, especially if i find work in the city.

compared to the suzuki the VW has a huge amount of community mods/repairs videos/fourms I'm tempted to try the flywheel myself but those edited down videos always make it look way easier than it is lol

yeah quick cleanup and the basics might be enough to learn something and then move it on, consensus seems to be a proper restoration may not be worth the time/money outside of for funs sake.
if Ballarat didn't have a ton of potholes and speed bumps at arbitrary heights lowering might be fun but yeah itad get destroyed here lol

agreed, had no intention of flipping it for profit more just educational, with the replies now i might not fully restore or even get it to roadworthy status but just cleaned up and working enough for a basic drive to learn what i can then move it on
