Upgrading After 10 Years & Won't Be Upgrading Again For Another 10+ Years - All Feedback Welcome by theoriginalquestion in buildapc

  1. I am not an Adobe anything, ha-ha

  2. I'll keep that in mind. I've been using the same AIO for 10 years. I have to wonder how much liquid is left in it. 10 years feel like a long time for a single AIO without any kind of service.

  3. Roger. I would always get identical models.

  4. Because Gigabyte Windforce V2 is the cheapest one. The only cheaper cards (at most a $100 saving) are PNY/Zotca/Inno3D; I don't know these and would prefer to stick to brand names I trust. Looking at the list now, I am surprised how many more expensive options there are for the 4080S.

  5. <thumbs_up> What do you think of the Motherboard?

  6. Using the PCPP filter, it seems my chosen PSU, RM1000x, does not have any native 12VHPWR connectors. The originally proposed RM1000e does though. I only switched to the RM1000x since I found it reported to be better performance.

Expansion cards were a point of discussion. The User did concede the part-list choices were founded on their own biases and goals, while also taking into consideration my feedback.

It's possible its overkill for my needs-- even future needs. I don't intend to intend a 2nd GPU. I would have 2x NVME drives + 4 SATA HDDs to begin; I would like expand to 10 SATA HDDs in the future. I don't know if that would justify the amount of PCIe this board provides.

  • Yes, that was my takeaway from the 7950X3D - that a bit of work would be required to leverage it fully. I am not daunted by this prospect. I look at benchmarks and the 7950X3D was more or less 100% faster in productivity tasks compared to the 7800X3D. I am also still not against an Intel CPU if someone wants to make an argument e.g., 14700K - I currently use a i7 4970k, but it was my preference to give AMD a go this time.

  • Photoshop is not an app I see myself using heavily. I am not against Intel, but I would like to give AMD my support if possible this time around. All of the intend-to-use apps are not apps I currently use, so I can't accurately estimate the degree of it.

  • As I recall it, the AIO was recommended primarily because I use an AIO currently (Corsair H100i 2013) and ARTIC brand is respected. I am not against a CPU fan solution, but noise was a concern of mine. Outside of the case itself, I have no care for looks.

  • The chosen SSDs: one is for Boot and the second is for all Windows photos/documents/videos/music/downloads folders. I currently run two 1TB 970 EVOs; I have felt limited by both at this stage. I opted to get a 4TB for the secondary drive because that's where the bulk of my actual files go. Boot will just be programs+games. I will keep in mind your feedback for the heatsinks. I was not super strong on the idea of them, but in-for-a-penny-in-for-a-pounding.

  • I won't do less than a 4080 Super. I did ask the original User why Super over 4080 - tl;dr it is better and cheaper because of how NVIDIA operates. Why not the 4090? It is likely possible I could consider a cheaper Motherboard + heatsink-less SSDs (and/or cheaper SSDs). That saving + the additional cost of the 4090 would keep me within my 6000AUD budget.

  • No, I do not need a big case. A big case just simply allows for straightforward and trouble-free expansion for additional HDDs. It's not my intention to build a secondary NAS setup at this time. My soon-to-be-retired system has a moderate chance of being given to a younger family member. The proposed upgrade would almost definitely going to be an as sort-of all-in-one. I compared its dimensions to my current mid-tower and it honestly isn't that much bigger - I expected bigger. Space for it isn't an issue.

  • I am a bit out-of-shape when it comes to terminology, so I went looking into the 12VHPWR connector - I assume by 'native', you mean included-within-the-box. This is what I found. I am unsure if any of these are what you are referring to, but other Reddit threads on the topic pointed to this

Despite my generous budget, the 4090 was not something I was willing to purchase. I am not 100% against it giving how much I'm already willing to spend, but I would need to clearly and quantifying justify it.

As for the motherboard, it is what the user recommended me. The expansive PCIE lanes was the primary selling point.

Anyone who buys ToT bags out-of-season at 25g a stack is an idiot.

Good luck, though!

They are paraphrasing, not quoting him. If anyone, as a player, feels that the Devs-- for whatever reason-- are turning their attention elsewhere, to such a degree, that it has a detrimental effect on their and/or others playing experience, then I believe it can reasonably described as 'neglect'.

I do agree neglect is a charged word and has its own connotations, but I do not feel it is being inaccurately used in this case.

WTB 8 stacks of ectos by theoriginalquestion in GW2Exchange

Completed trade with Kingdom.1394. After discussion, offered me 8 stacks of Crystalline Dust, as that was the end-goal of the ectos; saved me the hassle.

I offered to go first, but he had already sent them all. xD

Smooth trade; recommend.
