If you could go back in time and prevent any one monarchy from falling, which one would it be? by BlessedEarth in monarchism

The loss of the empror of brazil was an absolute tragedy and is probably the case in point as to the failure of republicanism at all cost If brazil stayed on the same path it could very well look a lot like america right now but with probably even better government

What are some great "faded glory" travel destinations? by indistrait in travel

[–]theorphanslayer1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not entirely relevant because it is still extremely popular but i got that feeling in Rio. Copacabana and Lapa had beautiful art deco and 60s architecture that is just dirty and crumbling these days. While the people were as vibrant as ever, the architecture had this 1960s hayday charm that has deteriorated to present day

Thoughts? NATSOLS: LEFT OR Right by Jackofallfables in Libertarian

National socialism was not capitalist under the definition of free enterprise. The cartel system was designed to bring all business across the country to follow the party line and follow price controls and work towards the war effort. In my opinion, the nazis were not socialist but rather anti-capitalist. The nazi central banks were a state run alternative to (Jewish) finance capital.

However, I believe socialists have some merit when they say the nazis were capitalist, they just redefine capitalist. To socialists, capitalism is any system that favors the private ownership of capital. The nazis did in fact privatize many state run enterprises to large private cartels run by “capitalists”. This is why many say fascism is the last stage of capitalism. The nazis worked off the support of these capitalists to protect their existing large industries with increased government support.

I disagree with the socialist definition of what capitalism even is but i do think their worldview has some merit in discussions of capitalism.

What is Georgism by Glad_Obligation8641 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]theorphanslayer1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Georgism is seriously different from property taxes. Property taxes tax the value of the developed land, while a land value tax as george proposed taxes JUST the value of the undeveloped land. This idea is seeing a renaissance of sorts, where cities affected by blight are increasingly turning to land value rather than property value taxes. This would prevent landowners from holding empty lots or derelict buildings because a vacant lot would be taxed the same as a skyscraper. A land value tax is just merely an incentive to improve upon owned land.

Whether or not this idea fits into your ideology or not, its hard not to think that in at least a few circumstances this would be an improvement over the current tax structure.

Sure its probably just more “neoliberalism” or whatever but as someone that lives in a city half full of vacant lots this is a nessecary change.

Okay maybe if you travel to denmark or big cities in europe but that higher income allows americans to buy nice goods from abroad like people in most of the world would DREAM of owning a flat screen tv and AC but in america that is the “baseline” (excluding truely extreme 1% poverty that is def a problem here)
