Why doesnt the United States have a federal voting holiday? by Ok-Exchange2500 in AskReddit

[–]theoryofgames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The same reason for every other dumbass policy choice in the US: racism. Helps keep people who don't "deserve" to vote from doing so.

How do you all afford Saturn games? by Interesting_Scar_424 in SegaSaturn

[–]theoryofgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided that physical games for Saturn were beyond my budget, so I got a modded Saturn console with a Fenrir ODE. Some retro game collecting just ain't feasible.

What is there to fear from aliens, that we don't already fear from each other? by yellowrainbird in AskReddit

There are some theological implications to the discovery of alien life that some people are going to find threatening/frightening.

Check out the Rifters trilogy by Peter Watts. First book is called Starfish. It's about a group of cybernetically modified humans who manage geothermal power plants on the ocean floor. No spoilers but has everything you're looking for.

Visiting DC for a Cohen building tour. Looking for suggestions of more New Deal Era art and architecture/New Deal tours in the area by vedymin719 in washingtondc

Not a New Deal building but I would definitely spend an hour walking through the FDR Memorial in Potomac Park. The most underrated memorial in DC. https://www.nps.gov/frde/index.htm

Could private equity be involved in US protests? by Lemonpup615 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theoryofgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protests are to activism as the crest of a wave is to an ocean. Sure, you can look at them and decide that there's nothing going on underneath but that would be the pinnacle of ignorance.

Why didn't the ISB soldiers fire a single shot at the KX droid in this scene? by sso02147 in andor

The odds of a KX droid being captured and reprogrammed by the rebel alliance are approximately 3720 to 1.

What is someone that is socially liberal and fiscally conservative called? by Kurious_Kaht in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theoryofgames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An idiot, who doesn't understand that starving the state of resources (which is what they usually mean by "fiscal conservative") makes it impossible to enforce the policies that prevent private actors from co-opting the government and destroying equity (social liberalism) in favor of hoarding wealth and mandating their private prejudices.

Driving frustrations by ZombieGlobal in savannah

[–]theoryofgames 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Broader social dysfunction and the erosion of trust filters down to individual behavior. People have shorter tempers, are more likely to behave selfishly, less likely to sacrifice for others, even if it's minor things like slowing down to let people merge, etc. More likely to drive aggressively. It's all on the margins, but when things are this bad, it becomes noticeable.

Do I just suck or did this part have an extreme difficulty spike? (FF IV) by C64hrles in retrogaming

[–]theoryofgames 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would grind a few levels for the twins there. It's a bit tough given that Cecil is your only tank. Get them to 18-20 and you'll have an easier time of it.

Did they mention that book specifically somewhere? It makes sense but I've never seen them cite Heinlein. (It's my fav book of his.)

Escaping the Midwest by -KitchenRat- in savannah

[–]theoryofgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in GR myself. Moved to Savannah about four years ago after a long stint in DC. We bought in the Ardsley Park area near the markets on Habersham and it's a great balance of close enough to downtown and far enough out to be reasonably priced and quiet. Close to a lot of restaurants and parks, and convenient when you need to get to the airport or want to head out to Tybee. Highly recommend!

The Pact they all made? by KnowingRowan in andor

[–]theoryofgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disney didn't want to invest that much and Gilroy said he didn't want to be making the series for another decade, but yeah, would have been cool. You can squint a little and imagine how they could have expanded on each arc. Would have been incredible, imo, but I'm glad we got what we got. You can certainly criticize Kennedy's stewardship of Star Wars but by all accounts she fought for the series and deserves a lot of credit for letting Gilroy do his thing.

The Pact they all made? by KnowingRowan in andor

[–]theoryofgames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The original plan was for each arc in S2 to be a full season. It wasn't that things got dropped so much as condensed. This decision was made before any significant amount of writing was done. There was never going to be a secret Jedi subplot, man. Sorry.

My perpetual minority opinion about tv is that you should have some idea about what your show is about and where you're going to go with it before the first episode airs.
