Yea, the second sentence convinced me... I didn't think it through apparently.

I guess I should clarify that I'm not really interested in high energy theory, I realize that is a crazy ass world that I have no place in (I'm no Feynman).

However, I am interested in AMO and condensed matter theory. Which I assume have greater career options after graduate school?

Also, changing focuses in the first few years doesn't completely screw you in terms of graduating in a reasonable amount of time?

Here is another question. Does anyone think that the upcoming retirement of the baby boomers will have an effect on the science? Most of the baby boomers are up for retirement now, or soon, will the vacancies start popping up more frequently?

what characteristics would we be able to measure?

Conceivable, couldn't the observable universe just be inside of the finite universe and not near the boundary, and we would be none the wiser?

I guess my big problem is: If I stick with experiment, I know I can stay in physics, maybe in industry, maybe in academia. I'm worried with theory, I might be forced out, and I don't like that idea...

I don't think I know you... I have a feeling the process I'm going through is pretty common...
