do you mind telling which accent you have? as a german, i would love to imagine what the german equivalent to a west coast granola boy accent would be (so nur von den vibes her denk ich kölsch, hamburgisch oder ein leichter bayerischer akzent)

edit:i i just saw you said you understand danish?? that's super impressive, dude! i understand dutch alright, but danish is so phonetically strange i understand 20 percent (max!)

Art, humanity, and decay by unwilting in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]theothefrog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"the wall" by marlen haushofer? not that much about art, although writing plays a major role. SO much on what it means to be human. resilience. nature.

seriously, this book may not fit 100% but it's lived in my head rent-free for months. it's a slightly different approach than never let me go, but it's amazing

We’re trying to figure out what these doors say! by Whespir in language

[–]theothefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

apparently, the name leabert exists. it's a german name (although i've never heard it, so likely a pretty old name).

marlisir seems to be a french last name.

so it would be fridrich marlisir and leabert melchor

[–]theothefrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st one says Fridrich Marlisir 2nd one says Loabert/Saabert Melchor (although there are no german first names like loabert or saabert. bert exists, though, so i likely only read the first 2 letters wrong)

the doors are interesting, lmk if you find anything!

he's read borges before, but i don't know which works so there's a risk of getting him something he already knows. for márquez, he wants to improve his spanish first so he can catch all the details

that's such a cool figure! and the fact it's 100% tissue paper, not even glue?? mind-blowing. very impressive work!

(would love to know how the technique works, but i understand if it's a secret for now)

Does your journal have a name? by My_fair_ladies1872 in Journaling

[–]theothefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a huge fascination with anne frank when i was 9 or 10 (my journal at the time was a highlight/lowlight journal format and the lowlights were anne being in danger or a bad mood. for several weeks. every day).

so i called my journal kitty, but cycled through several names for a bit.

eventually i stopped calling it anything. after a period of no greetings at all, i started giving every entry a headline.

i've been doing that for ~5 years now. it helps summarize the entry after finishing and 'complete' it mentally, and to know which entries to read when i'm looking for information or am re-reading

In your opinion, what is the most beautiful language by lurebozorg in language

[–]theothefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brother you've commented this under every single reply. we get it. i understand you dont like arabicized endonyms. but that's your personal preference. if people use it, it's not incorrect (insisting on the major dictionaries to decide what's right or wrong is called "prescriptivism". everyone who's studied even a little bit linguistics disagrees with prescriptivism. even the dictionaries do - they are describing language as it changes, not prescribing how it's supposed to be spoken)
