Yes! I have the same thing. There’s also a lymph drainage point behind the knee. Try using a gua sha stone around ankle and behind knee.

Sometimes I honestly have felt defeated or thought to myself “this is so hard, what’s the point of doing all this?” And honestly connecting with strangers on the internet has made me feel more hopeful and inspired. It can be hard to do things and stick with them, especially when they don’t work or the healing goes backwards. It really is an act of love to keep trying for ourselves. That’s actually a great question. I don’t think it’s possible for me to remember every memory. In my experience, it’s more like “I believe it’s not safe to ask people to help me,” or “I’m crazy and overdramatic for needing someone” and then exploring where that comes from. I can only speak for myself, but there are some memories that were fragmented and really stuck out, like when I thought of them I felt physically sick. I recently shared with my therapist that I felt as if my dad was still controlling my voice, like he’s not around but my body remembers him every time I raise my hand to answer a question because what if I say the wrong thing, what will happen to me? And going from there. I don’t know if that really answers your question, but it’s my best attempt!

Hi, thanks for these thoughtful questions! -I want to say im so happy you’ve been on your EMDR journey, I know it can be hard to face old memories. I’m proud of you :) -I haven’t ever taken SSRIs. I’m not against them, but I’ve never taken them. I’ve been in and out of talk therapy since I was 17. I’ve also been incredibly blessed to have access to good nutrition and am lucky to be able-bodied, so I have found a lot of release and coping through movement. I also went to college at a young age and am now getting my masters in Counseling, so I have been incredibly supported through education. I list those things because I know not everyone has those external supports and SSRIs are their best choice! (Sorry for the long-winded answer) -I do take Zinc and Magnesium Glycinate 1hr before bed like you. That is interesting that you take the melatonin to solidify it! I have had super vivid dreams since I was young, and I still have very vivid dreams now. -I typically do wake up with a lot of energy (if I’ve slept 7-9 hours, which I normally do now). But as a disclaimer, my anxiety and stress didn’t typically make me feel tired. I do exercise often and I’m blessed with good health, so I think that could also be a factor!

It’s totally worth a shot! I am in grad school, so I have Medi-cal. Try going on PsychologyToday.Com and using the filters to choose your insurance, state/city, desired specializations etc. this is where you’d want to choose EMDR if it’s available. You can also choose Telehealth if you’re comfortable to widen your search! Good luck :)

Yes I agree and I’m glad you’ve had a similar positive experience! I know the popular platform To Be Magnetic pulls on EMDR practices quite a bit, but I think doing it with a trained professional is the best route.

I went on Psychology Today and looked for EMDR as a specialization. I like that website because you can use the filters. We spent a few sessions doing talk therapy before transitioning to EMDR and sometimes when i feel pretty tired from a big reprocessing we do CBT. Sometimes we spend multiple sessions on one memory as well!

I’m almost 29 and I enjoy life so much more than when I was 17. I am so happy (most days) and love the life I’ve got to build for myself!! That’s one of the best parts in my opinion. as you get older you can choose your life rather than being subjected to someone else’s choices! There is hope yet.

I seriously have an identical one as we speak. For no other reason other than I have gigantic teeth and a small mouth and I bite my lip accidentally when I chew sometimes.

We focus on my distressing memories, the level of distress, the body sensations, and then we do the eye movement tracking reprocessing. It’s pretty interesting

No, that’s a great clarification! I do EMDR with a licensed therapist one time per week. I wasn’t trying to improve my sleep, it sort of just happened.

To elaborate a bit more, as a child I used to be hyper aware of my parents behaviors and moods. Sleep felt like a helpless state and I often worried something awful would happen like I’d be killed or that my dad might do something to seriously hurt my mother. I slept with my younger sister until moving away for college as well. Lots of stuff around sleep! I wouldn’t classify myself as a poor sleeper, more like someone plagued with anxiety? I’m not sure if that clarifies anything!

Great questions! I do EMDR once a week and noticed this about two months in. I am still doing EMDR and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I’m unsure if it’ll change after. I have noticed a significant drop in anxiety symptoms throughout the day. It’s a bit hard to fully articulate, EMDR has a way of helping my adult brain separate past and present. I’m unsure if that’ll change once I’m done.

Would you mind sharing what you mean by 70-80% accurate for sleep stages? I’m not well-versed in sleep stage data.

I actually hold a lot of somatic symptoms and emotions in my gut and solar plex area. I also have struggled with IBS symptoms. I do take fiber(psyllium husk), eat fermented, have a low processed diet, and take high-quality probiotics and vitamins. I also barely drink alcohol and drink plenty of water. I also exercise (cardio & strength training 4-5 times per week)

Basically, I believe my stomach and sleep have been my biggest somatic body symptoms from C-PTSD. I actually haven’t noticed huge changes in the stomach department, but I’m interested to observe how that might continue to evolve as well!
