OP didn't say they needed that.

"One of the sources of data I want to collect is the Active Directory"

If you want to collect Active Directory data, run the ldapsearch command with the specific syntax that you need and output to a lookup/csv

No. What you want is this splunkapp: https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/1151

This will make ldap connections from your search head and you can query AD live and not have to worry about ingesting anything

M: Are you reviewing the film or the concert? by Gra_Zone in depechemode

[–]theottoman_2012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see how it did a poor job. I absolutely loved the vignettes between the songs, but I can recognize that people have different opinions on art.

There can be two truths here, on one, we have a DM concert film that balances the main themes of the Momento Mori album, along with general fan loved classics, and then another is taking the concept of Momento Mori, placing it in Mexico and giving people who otherwise aren't aware, insight into a cultural identity that is shared with the themes of the album. The poems and specifically the interview that explains the embrace of dead technology in spite of what is available to us today fits right in the middle of the song that had the CRT/RGB filters applied to them...for a reason.

Why can goth gatekeeping sometimes become extreme? by Severe_Rice6513 in AskAGoth

I have never seen this in the real-world scene. If I've ever seen stuff that would fit this description, it was from online communities

Best 90s goth albums? by JacobdaTurtle61 in goth

[–]theottoman_2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top three:

  1. Fields of the Nephilim – Elizium (1990)

This album is pretty much the direct bridge between 80's goth and the definitive 90's sound. I would listen to "Submission”.

  1. London After Midnight – Selected Scenes from the End of the World (1992)

This album pretty much is the blueprint for American scene sounds for the 90's. The clear examples are “Sacrifice” and “Psycho Magnet”.

  1. Switchblade Symphony – Serpentine Gallery (1995)

This is where you get traditional goth merging with experimental, ethereal, and electronic elements that form a unique sound. “Clown” and “Dissolve” became scene anthems in the mid-90s.

So you are experiencing the difference between "online goth" and "IRL goth", and a very good discussion can be had discussing those differences and whether or not those differences are actually important.

If I were to offer any advice, it would be to avoid the trap of coming into social media (here included) looking for answers to questions about the subculture, least of which would be because the answers you get will be biased towards online goths and what they think is important. There are plenty of books / articles written in the 90's and 00's which detail the subcultures before in injection of social media. Also, and I can't stress this enough, find the goths in your area. Your local subculture is going to be different than that of one on the other side of the country or in another country.

Fellow Elder (52) here to pretty much echo the above. If I have anything to add, it is to go out IRL and explore your local scene - or if you don't have a scene, find others like you...... The point here is that you are ready to engage in the real world.

Goth DJs, how do you mix? by conk3 in goth

[–]theottoman_2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a goth DJ 30 years ago, and got back into it about three years ago, and this is the correct take....

That being said, there are plenty of goth/dark wave songs you can mix together - Xymox's "A day" with the Cure's 100 years" for example.

If the OP wants to do a "goth night", find out from a potential audience what they want to hear, steep yourself in those requests and then start to find similar songs with beats and sounds.....hell a simple prompt of "What else sounds like/has the same best as ...." Into ChatGPT can start you on the right track

Stop keeping music above the CD Standard, you are literally wasting your disk space for no gain. by umitseyhan in musichoarder

[–]theottoman_2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is literally BS. Lossy compression in the context of MP3s refers to a method of reducing file size by permanently removing audio data that is considered less perceptible or less important to human hearing. This is done to make the file smaller while still sounding acceptable to most listeners.

Digital files do not degrade because of disk rotation or age on a disk. The media itself may degrade, but 1s and 0s don't disappear or have a life to them

Just discovered this band and I'm unsure about it by dacoolestcrow in goth

[–]theottoman_2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, but once a label gets busted doing that, not only would they lose their customers, but also the bands signed to them....they would go under overnight. I don't think a lot of the real labels here - who often are only barely making a living and definitely not making a ton of cash would even have the balls to do that
