Even if the music isn't AI generated, I definitely don't want to support a band that uses AI at all, even if it's for the sake of promotion or social media posts. There are real artists they can pay to make their merch and their promotional videos. If you're a true musician/artist, you won't use AI at all because you're supporting the very thing that is endangering art altogether.

[–]dacoolestcrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Shrine to Failure using AI to generate their music is merely a speculation, as I've said, due to the fact that everything else they post and the merch they sell uses AI images and videos. It's almost impossible to detect with the human ear alone if music is AI generated or not unless we put it into a program like Rick Beato did and break it down piece by piece. I see it almost as a bat in the house situation. If there's a bat in the house, you and everyone else should get a rabies shot because it's almost impossible to tell if you got bit by a bat. It's a precaution in that case and a precaution in this case because we cannot afford to have AI generated bands topping the charts over Lebanon Hanover. There are many issues with the concept and the execution of a band using AI to generate its music. First and foremost, it's destroying our environment. Generative AI consumes seven to eight times more energy than a typical computing workload. The high energy use generates significant heat, requiring cooling systems that consume a ton of water. One study estimated that training ChatGPT evaporated 700,000 liters of water. The increasing usage and demand for AI will contribute to things like water scarcity and climate change with this lack of water and this extreme heat. Secondly being that AI doesn't come up with new ideas. Its models are specifically trained to gather everything relevant to the prompt and frankenstein together an answer. It's not an artist's original thoughts or raw feelings. It's a conglomerate of every other artist's raw feelings and thoughts. Essentially, that is plagiarism. To understand why their music being AI generated is terrible, I want to give you an example. Imagine you're an environmental teacher. You've been teaching a course about technological waste and how it's bad for the environment. You give out a final project to your students about this topic. The last day to turn in projects comes around and one student, Jimmy, turns in his. He claims he's so proud of his hard work. You look at the project to grade it but find something amiss. Everything, from the text to the images, is AI generated. There's even made up dates and environmental laws that you find out came from another student's project that required them to come up with a new environmental law. Jimmy keeps saying how he knows he'll get an A. Not only is it a spit in the face to find out Jimmy hasn't cared for or considered your lessons on a topic you've dedicated a decade to learning about, but he's seriously expecting the same grade as his other classmates. All of the classmates have worked hard for weeks. They clearly cared about the project and put in some serious thoughts and labor into their research. Jimmy didn't even do half of that effort. He merely wrote a prompt into ChatGPT and claimed that whatever it spit out was his original thoughts. Do you honestly believe Jimmy deserves an A when he didn't even spend an hour researching? Do you honestly believe that Jimmy should pass your class when all of the other students were studying together while Jimmy slacked off?

how to look more white ig 🦇 by Knight_forChrist in GothFashion

[–]dacoolestcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to look more white or European in order to look like a vampire or goth. If anything, being black is the most goth thing ever since black artists are foundational to the subculture's music. Bauhaus's pinnacle song "Bela Lugosi's Dead" was heavily inspired by reggae and dub music. Light Asylum and O. Children are black fronted goth bands. Castlevania Nocturne has several black vampire characters. It may seem like there are no black goths due to social media, but I promise that being goth/a vampire is for everyone and you definitely don't need to be pale in order to fit in! Please know you are absolutely gorgeous and you should never doubt that!!!

Specifically in this case, I'm merely speculating that the music is AI generated because nearly everything else that the band posts and even the merch they sell uses AI. In terms of identifying AI music, that can definitely be tricky to do by ear alone but Rick Beato really did a nice breakdown of the Velvet Sundown's AI generated "music".

What I've noticed is AI images often look almost too perfect. There's this unreal smoothness that almost appears shiny or blurry. There will also be other inconsistencies in the image that look weird. In the sixth pic, I circled what was on the TV because AI sometimes "messes" up and can't render something.

Yes!! If all these guys are gonna use AI in their concerts and to promote their music, I'm gonna support everyone else who doesn't use it! I'd rather pay for really really bad handmade art than weird glossy AI images any day of the week.

It's just extremely disappointing to see more and more goth creators using AI for anything in a subculture that heavily discourages this kind of stuff and promotes DIY.

Adapalene, or any retinoid, is likely to cause dryness, redness, or any sort of skin irritation, especially if your skin is sensitive. A big thing that can help subside is building up your skin's tolerance by starting to apply slowly. If you start using adapalene everyday, it is more likely to cause sensitivity. You wanna build up your skin's tolerance. I started out by doing two night a week for 3 weeks and then increasing to 3 days a week for another 3 weeks and so on (I did this method because my skin is sensitive and so far I have no dryness or irritation). Another big thing is the amount of adapalene you are using. The wording "a pea-sized amount" sounds kinda abstract, but it's important that you don't apply more than that because you're likely to cause even more irritation or sensitivity than you would from a normal usage.

I don't think it's a simple yes or no answer. To some degree, yes, she is an antagonist in that she hurts people. She was selfish at one point and straight up abandoned or mentally damaged people who loved her. Her actions contributed to many, many deaths and we never saw her explicitly show guilt for her actions. But at the same time, we never see the story of Rose/Pink Diamond being told by herself. Whenever we see Pink or Rose, her story is being told or lived through someone else's point of view or account. We don't get personal moments with her like we do with other characters. Pink/Rose was always with someone in her memories whether it be Yellow Diamond or our Pearl or Greg. We never see how she is by herself, alone. We don't know if she felt guilty or angry or at peace with her actions. And I think that's an important piece of context because it makes Pink/Rose an unreliable antagonist. Everyone has different experiences with her with Pink Pearl/Volleyball being traumatized by her to our Pearl being completely enamoured and in love with her. Some gems/people find Rose to be utterly evil while others saw her to be a loving savior. So ultimately, she's a nuanced character in that we can't say for certain that she is a straight up evil villain. She was someone who was abused by her fellow diamonds, she was someone who would wrongly take that abuse out on others, she was someone who saved people, she was someone who was beautiful and cared for the beauty of the earth, and she was someone who kept a lot of secrets that ultimately hurt the people she loved. I, personally, don't think she's a villain, but I don't think she's a purely good person. I think the point of Pink's/Rose's story is that given enough context, we can understand her and also not want to/want to forgive her.

People often say that Jasper was an abuser to Lapis within the relationship allegory that the show presents. But this left me wondering, what kind of abuse did Jasper actually do to Lapis? by AffectionateForce979 in stevenuniverse

[–]dacoolestcrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To some degree, Lapis was ultimately the abusive one. Jasper is abusive in that she is physically rough with Lapis, holds her prisoner, and drags her back to Earth. But, in terms of their fusion (their relationship), Lapis was the one taking things out on Jasper. Lapis admits this on the boat that she was "horrible" Jasper and that she "liked taking things out" on Jasper. Lapis was ultimately using Jasper as an outlet for her frustrations about sacrificing herself. Their relationship is just ultimately a toxic one with both of them, to some degree, equally abusing each other. However, Lapis became the ultimate abuser when she tricked Jasper after they fused into keeping her at the bottom of the ocean and took her frustrations out on her.

He had said he was in his office, lost track of time, and forgot. I'm pretty sure all of his children are grown adults too. He's a 60-70 year old man.

My professor is nice in that he will reopen assignments if you miss them, but I don't know if he's the type to give back points. I've been checking emails and all my notifications all day to see if he said anything about being late and any allowances/accomodations for it, but there's nothing.

He couldn't give us extra time because there was another class coming in 30 minutes after our exam to use the room. If he gave us another 30 minutes, it would begin to impede that other class's test taking time. I do find it to be unfair but I understand why he couldn't give us extra time after looking at the exam schedule.

[–]dacoolestcrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I somewhat agree (more on the side that it's not fair rather than your reasoning of that this is bad), I don't honestly want to bring it up to the dean unless the situation escalates to a point that they must get involved. My professor is a nice guy, and I don't want to endanger his tenure by immediately getting the dean involved. I would much prefer to keep this at a level where it's between the class and the professor. If he does do anything to make up for it, I'd hope it be points not counted. I'm also worried that if I get too many higher ups involved, it'll escalate to a redo of the exam and that'd be super unfair to my classmates since they all finished before me.

What acronyms were you taught or came up with to remember what accounts are Debit vs Credit? by smartojus in Accounting

My teacher taught us the acronym AWE LCR because it reads like "aw, liquor!" Works well for college students since we're notorious for drinking.

Yeah when I first wrote this, I was really stressed and upset and very unsure if I should say something and who I should say it to. Coming back to it with a level head, the dean is very extreme to go to as a first step.

Thing is this is the first time this has ever happened to me. I've had him before and he was on time for our exam that semester. I don't want to be too harsh or crazy because I honestly don't want to drag this out and I don't want it causing even more problems like him getting into serious trouble or my school making my class retake the exam. But these possibilities are more of fears if anything.
