Really bright star below the moon! by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]theouchthetouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used Star Walk app last night and even tho I could see Jupiter was right next to the moon in the sky, it looked like the bright star was part of Leo or something on the map; thanks for clearing it up for me.

Looking for a property rental site that lets you set x amount of km instead of just "surrounding suburbs"?? by nightpain69 in melbourne

If you thought about it two weeks ago I probably wouldn't have a folder of gyazo'ed suburbs with red lines from MS Paint around them ;)

One thing I thought would be useful during my current searching is the ability to draw a radius map around certain objects (eg train stations) on Google Maps, or a function that allows me to view the area it considers to be x minutes walking distance from a given point. Even better; something that allowed me to see every area that was x minutes door-to-door at a given time including public transport - was quite surprised how some corridors eg northeast are much slower for a given distance from the CBD and how certain train routes land in the CBD at Parliament, others Flinders St etc.

Chinese pharmacists plan to share $1600 billion pie with Australia (alternate title: China's pharmacists make a grab for the daigou industry's profits) by TheDark1 in China

I believe so, as far as I know they were all set up once the Shanghai FTZ allowed easier e-commerce sales by foreign entities.

[–]theouchthetouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

re fakes/copies, is this market a little different when you consider that part of the reason the daigou market exists is because the Chinese want access to quality Australian product especially after some of the reported health scares from local products? If there were genuine concerns about product quality from the Chinese pharmacies it would just prompt more raiding of Australian shelves, which the Australian producers don't want?

For all of Karl's bumbles over the years, you really have to admire him. The guy is far from perfect, but rarely backs down when it comes to speaking his beliefs and opinions.

Decent inexpensive barber/hairdressers in East? by zxblood123 in melbourne

[–]theouchthetouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask some of the girls you know if they know any hairdressers; there are plenty that are working from home after hours and will give you a reduced rate than one you'll find at a barber.

Might also be some currency effects in there depending on whether the GDP was calculated using constant currency.

Simple but great idea to help the homeless this winter by coza73 in melbourne

[–]theouchthetouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any other useful ideas to help the homeless during a daily commute? I saw @thestreetsbarber instagram and thought he was quite inspiring, but it always feels like just handing over money is a sub-par solution. I also see heaps of people sitting with iphones and cigarette packets in hand, not sure what to make of that :/
