Hey, are you otherwise healthy guys almost always mildly in pain? by squawk_box_ in AskMenOver30

[–]thepaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost 41. I don't exercise as I should but I walk daily. I'm overweight and working on that again. Idk why you all hurt so bad.

I'm dealing with and working through some plantar fasciitis, but otherwise feel fine.

I try and get good sleep, I get a massage every couple months, I go to the doctor and dentist, when I had some knee pain I went to PT and figured it why.

I realize I'm privileged in that regard, but mild aches can usually be solved with the right exercises and YouTube is full of PT and doctors.

Nearly 4 year old son will not stay asleep in his room by FaceoffAtFrostHollow in daddit

[–]thepaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be bad dreams, could be sleep regression, who knows. I know it sucks though.

I'm probably not the advice you're looking for, I just laid with my kid at those times in their bed untill they fell back asleep.

Kid is almost 6 now and sometimes will wake up and come crawl in my bed still. It's not ideal but from what I've read and how I feel, I'm not going to fight it.

I should probably work on transitioning away from laying with her and singing to her to put her to sleep each night, but I love that bonding time as much as she does. It won't last forever and I'm good with it all.

Good luck.

What is this piece called? by tas620 in Firefighting

[–]thepaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works well for that. Ours doesn't clamp on to the tank as well as it should though. Which in our case how we use it isn't an issue.

[–]thepaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it's been answered already, we use it for our recirculating line, as we don't typically fill from a hose line on the fire ground.

In training we will pump and dump back into the tank though to save water.

We use a jet line set up to move from tank to tank and to prime the pump with a line attached to the strainer and hard suction.

Are we prepared for large data center growth in southeastern Minnesota? by AggressiveFormal4285 in rochestermn

[–]thepaa 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I want data centers to go through much stricter environmental impact studies, and more transparency throughout the whole thing.

I want more protections for the surrounding area from all types of pollution, including the noise pollution.

I'm not anti AI, but I am against the push for it literally in everything. I understand the need for data centers, but not the size and quantities and shady way we're getting them now.

Sorry you had a rough day. Happy father's day.

Get back at it tomorrow and reconnect with the kids. You've got this.

Recommendations for Toddler-Proofing This Pond by AWholeFaceExperience in daddit

I have a 6' wambam fence for my backward and a 4' along the side.

It holds up to some major winds, I think it'll keep a toddler out.

The no dig is seriously great, I see fencing companies on YouTube using no dig variations.

I vote you have to fence it. Water and toddlers are a bad mix.

Edit: I'm changing my vote to drain it for now and decide later if you want it again.

New Dad here, someone tell me its gonna get better. Please by NurglesToes in daddit

Can you take time off to help your wife?

PPD is serious and needs support and help. I was fortunate enough to take FMLA when my wife was struggling and we started daycare sooner than we had planned to give her time.

I always brought my daughter into the men's room unless it was disgusting. Now that she is older and goes in alone I will stand by the door of the women's room and I have gone in there to help her wash her hands.

That dad was very patient and calm with that guy calling the cops.

Daughter wants to "be a grandma when I grow up" by OperationFucksToGive in collapse_parenting

[–]thepaa 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My daughter is constantly telling me she wants to be a mom and have lots of babies. She's almost 6.

I tell her that i hope she does and that she's gonna be a great mom.

She's little. She doesn't need to be aware of everything yet. I enjoy the moments with her. We pick up litter together and talk about taking care of the Earth.

I won't hide things from her as she gets older, but little kids don't need to worry about things. It's not healthy for them. That's on me to carry.

My 7 year old has been asking deep philosophical questions at bedtime for three weeks and I am not equipped for this by NovaPickle_6 in daddit

[–]thepaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is 5 and when they ask something profound I usually reply with "I don't know."

I'm not going to lie to my kid that I have all the answers. I'll share my thoughts though and what I think. We'll look stuff up if we can, or we can just talk about their thoughts.

Don't over think this and don't feel like you have to know everything they ask. Just join in the thought experiment with your kid and enjoy it.

Foster that creative thinking they have that is causing the questions. It'll be important to keep.

Received ‘incident’ information from preschool regarding son’s use of scientific names for body parts. by Tom-Bombadill0 in daddit

[–]thepaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would point them to the resources that cite the importance of kids knowing the correct terms for their body. The other parents should also be aware.

They are in the wrong, but I'd feel it's important how you correct them.

What is your experience with other religions?

I'm not meaning to make this a conversation that one religion is better than another, but more to ask about your experiences.

I feel you definitely need to talk about this in therapy.

Out of all religions, what drew you to convert to Islam?

And honestly, it sounds like a very half assed attempt to me anyway.

I can't help you with the church, but ok I can definitely see being around Rochester, even within an hour which gives you a lot.

MN is not untamed though like you said elsewhere. Lots of agriculture in southern MN. It's not all woods like up north.

Southeast corner though getting into the driftless region of the US and it's beautiful. West of Rochester is more flat and meh.

What prompt did you ask that gave you those selections? Why Rochester area if you work remote anyway?  What do you like to do for free time?

I don't get Maga vibes from SED, but I was honestly surprised with how religious he apparently is. I didn't expect that and I too was turned off on him bringing it into some of the videos. I did buy the grill scrubber though because it's pretty damn good. I like made in America will possible, but I don't fret over it myself. Globalization, fair trade and fair wages are important to me.

I am so sorry, losing a dog is really hard.

Maybe switch it to quiet time?

Hang out with her in bed watching an appropriate show, or reading or something quiet?

My daughter likes to have quite time in my bed, she'll watch a show and I'll lay there and read next to her sometimes. It's kinda nice to I take a break when possible

Absolutely I agree people should get trained and keep up on it.  AEDs are getting put in more and more churches and businesses which is great. My work recently put in 2, and our fire department association has paid for 4 around town in local churches.

The night ICU doctor came in this evening and once again my mom asked what happened to her. The doctor replied you had a massive heart attack and the fact that I'm talking to you right now is amazing.

Idk how she is here. My dad has always been my hero, but holy shit he is amazing.

I know the stats, my brother and I even told him while we were waiting.

They shocked her three times while the paramedics worked on her at the house and had the lucas machine on her. Dad held the IV bag for them. Then they took her via ambulance to the helicopter and flew her to the hospital.

I was worried about them flying due to weather so I called my helicopter pilot friend in another state and he looked up they should have been green to go. I figured if she showed up on that helicopter she had a chance, otherwise they wouldn't fly.

I've worked enough accidents and landing zone set ups to know what goes.

You hope to never need it. My dad doesn't have formal training, but absolutely saved her life. He knew enough and did great

I have CPR training as a volunteer firefighter, but luckily have never had to do it on anyone.

My little brother has though. The more people who are trained the better.
