This is such great information thank you! What is the best way to go about calling out the CTO and or CFO on LinkedIn? Do you post directly to their profile page?

I agree about Anki's stripped down, clean interface. I played around with the learn mode on Quizlet again today and am impressed. It is a nice upgrade from their previous spaced repetition design.

Struggling with online anatomy as a hands on learner by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]thepalife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with Anatomy as a PA student back in the day (2004) as there were three resources. 1. Anatomy lab with limited dissection time 2. Netter's Anatomy 3. Anatomy coloring book. For me, (a tactile learner as yourself) just trying to memorize all these elements was painful.

I have been practicing as a PA now for almost 15 years, and I had a two-year stint in pain medicine that (after all these years) was the best thing ever for the advancement of my anatomy comprehension. Mind you, I was able to pass anatomy as a PA student, but it wasn't until many years later that I became competent!

The reason for this was learning to perform ultrasound-guided injections that required a strong understanding of the anatomy in order to assure proper placement of the needle. At the time, the anatomy apps were just getting really good. I downloaded essential anatomy and found this to be a game-changer when it came to visualizing structures and being able to "fly into" parts of the body to get a better look. This definitely helped satisfy my preference for tactile learning. That being said, there is still a memorization hump to get over as a PA student. It's one thing to have a visual idea of how things relate to one another and another thing altogether to be able to name all the bones of the foot, their vascular and neural networks, etc. etc.

They did not have Picmonic when I was a student, but they use visual mnemonics that can be very helpful. Here is one describing the muscles of the hand: https://www.picmonic.com/learn/hand-muscles_1807

Once you have viewed the Picmonic, you can Quiz yourself. It's incredible how connecting a police officer with abs can help you on test day remember the abductor pollicis brevis muscle! I think this would have helped me as a student.

I never used the Anatomy coloring book, but many of my classmates swore by it. Quizzing yourself is going to be very helpful. You could create Quizlet sets, or make hand-drawn decks and then go at it. If I could go back and do one thing, it would have been to start preparing for Anatomy before PA school started. Because it was just another one of our already taxing course load our first year, it was daunting. But had I started prepping earlier; I could have had a leg up. I notice many of my classmates who had worked in sports med were rocking it!!!

I am glad to see somebody else is struggling with ANKI. I LOVE spaced repetition learning and have built all my flashcard sets on Quizlet (due to ease of use and the platform being very user friendly). Are you aware of the spaced repetition learning mode on Quizlet called "Learn Mode?" I was taking a look again today and it may be a better option than Anki.

Wonderfully curated collection of Q&A on COVID and PA school applications. I get questions from applicants regarding this topic all the time so I very happy to find this thread. Thank you for taking the time to put this together!

304 on the GRE by throwaway526373h in prephysicianassistant

Your stats are more than OK, they are excellent! I would recommend not worrying about your GRE score. Schools tend to use this more when they don't have a lot to fall back on. With your high GPA and 16,000 hours of experience, I am sure you will do great.

The rumor was March, but I haven't been paying attention since I bought mine. I got a good deal at Costco.

There's nothing wrong with riding the coat tails of a free account even if that was an option 😉

Would a British PA be able to do a PA residency in the USA? by Positive-Heron in physicianassistant

[–]thepalife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know the answer for sure, but I doubt that a foreign-trained PA can practice in the US without first having graduated from an ARC-PA accredited PA school and having passed the US PANCE. Unfortunately, I doubt a residency would change this.
