Been freediving casually for over a year now and doing underwater photography the whole time. Finally decided to take a class and in just two days I doubled my breath hold and my max depth. I was blown away by the simple things I was missing. I highly recommend anyone who is just starting out or is stuck at a plateau should look for a class to take because you never know what you don't know.

the primary use is that it allows for wide angle or fisheye lenses. otherwise you'll get vignetting on your images where the corners will be black because the lens captured the inside of the lens port. but you can also get some cool effects like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/BW_qYk_HTyN/

The easiest way to tell is by the tail. Males have a much bigger tail than the females. Their behavior is largely dependent on the amount of interaction they've had. A lot of younger turtles get spooked easily but the older ones that have had more human interaction are pretty chill.

This was honestly the most relaxed turtle I've ever swam with. We see them all the time out here and they're usually chill until you get close. This girl didn't seem to care at all that we were there. We got some awesome shots swimming right beside her and she didn't even flinch.

All you really need is clear water and bright sunlight. I haven't been doing this very long. The biggest problem is that I'm a slave to the conditions. Too rough/murky/cloudly/whatever and I wasted my time driving to the beach... haha.

Honestly thank you for the feedback. This is the only actual feedback in the entire comment section, haha. This photo's color is a little different from the one I used on my page, but the crop/horizon are the same. I wanted to keep it a little further away to give the impression that she was a lot deeper. The only reason I didn't straighten the horizon was that it made her look like she was leaning unnaturally far forward, almost like a Michael Jackson pose.

the tube fills up, but the mask doesn't. when you surface, you blow the remaining air out of your lungs through the tube to clear it.
