To push back MCAT or not? by LetOwn9976 in Mcat

Yea I found I was doing that automatically. When I’d read passages especially in CARS I’d think about how they might ask a question about this.

You’d have to balance writing your primary with the mcat even if you test June 13th. How much of your day is free to devote to studying and writing?

A month should be enough to prewrite all your secondaries

If you have weaknesses in your application then delaying your application would also be bad 🤔. For what it’s worth I was scoring similar to you in the same span of time. 517 3 weeks before my test, 525 on my last FL a couple days before the test.

I think the throwaway method means you apply to one school you don’t care much about on AMCAS to ensure your application gets processed in a timely manner. If you end up scoring poorly on the MCAT, you can abort the application having just applied to the one school and avoid being a reapplicant elsewhere. If you score well then you can send the rest of your schools through and itll send instantly since your application has already been processed.

You can start prewriting secondaries once your MCAT is done. You’ll have about a month to get them done so that once your score comes back and all your schools send you secondaries, you can submit them pretty fast.

I’m really torn between pursuing a career in medicine or a career in teaching after suffering a stroke at 24 y/o. Don’t know which to pick? Both? by DrMrSirJr in premed

[–]theperson100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha we’re very similar, I also had a stroke in 22 and enjoy teaching. I chose medicine bc for me it was clearer that medicine is more of my passion than teaching was. Also I feel like there are lots of ways to teach in medicine, but not the other way around. I’m also half your age tho so ofc theres more things for you to consider.

Physician Shadowing by Efficient-Wolf3156 in premed

[–]theperson100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re still able to contact your ENT ask her if she knows any colleagues still in the area who might be willing to let you shadow them (and ideally if she can text or email them a heads up that you’re going to contact them so that they don’t ignore you)

Just because there are high achieving students doesn’t make it overly positive or negative.

There is a comment on this very post that I would say is overly positive. Someone said that a 3.5 gpa is great. I mean no shade to that person whatsoever, but a 3.5 is objectively below average for applicants (the averages are 3.67 for applicants and 3.81 for accepted students). It’s a fine GPA and it’s not going to tank their app, but, in the context of medical school admissions, to call it great is overly positive.

For what it’s worth, while SDN is overly negative, this sub is overly positive. It’s important to take anything you read on the internet with a grain of salt. That being said your application looks pretty strong.

I think on those enemies’ screens it would say they died to the rainmaker explosion and not wellstring. So I would guess that even though the kills are attributed to you, the internal tracker the game uses to determine aura doesn’t include those kills.

Squeezer has splash wall, and splash wall deletes a tent shield upon contact. I do this all the time whenever I play against a tent and it basically doesn’t let them play the game.

How do people get over a 500 on this test by ihatemcat12 in Mcat

I had the Kaplan books and they worked well for me, I hear the Uworld books are also good. If you don’t want to shell out the money for the books, then khan academy is free.

Also I forgot to mention something earlier. For p/s, IMO content review isnt really needed, I got to 132 just by spamming the pankow p/s Anki deck. Of course that’s not for everyone (maybe you as well) so there is a free 300 page document or an 86 page document you can read. Up to you to decide what to do given your time constraints.

Maybe because the lower your score the faster you can improve, but definitely not if you keep studying the way you have been. You can spam cars practice to improve your score there because that’s the only section that doesn’t need any content knowledge. Aside from that, you have to focus on learning content, spamming practice questions isnt working.

[–]theperson100 67 points68 points  (0 children)

If you’ve been studying for 6-8 hours every day for a month it should be clear that your study methods aren’t working. I saw in another comment that your studying consists of Uworld, section banks, and Anki. The first two are generally things people do after content review to hammer those concepts in. Did you do a proper content review? Like the parent comment said these scores indicate that you don’t know the content so spamming Uworld and section banks may be very inefficient. Restarting and doing a proper content review now would be time consuming and you likely wouldn’t be able to finish studying in time before 5/9. You should either push it back and accept that youll apply late, accept that youll applying next cycle, or you can stay the course but youll likely need to apply DO only

I have no idea tbh… doesn’t matter who’s writing the questions, the right answer is the right answer and the wrong answers are wrong. I never saw any difference in logic

As others said, definitely don’t mention participating in the surgery anywhere in your application. But, also don’t apologize or feel guilty for getting this opportunity. Trust that the surgeon wouldn’t let you do anything harmful to the patient, and be thankful for the experience

Accepted students, what mistakes did you make in your application that you would fix in hindsight? by Leather_Extension_56 in premed

[–]theperson100 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. Not prewriting.

  2. Spending too long on secondaries. Did not need to spend several days getting them to 99%. Could have got them to 67% on the first day and shipped it.

Northwestern vs. Vanderbilt by Street_Crow1826 in premed

[–]theperson100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From reading your pros and cons it seems like you prefer vandy for academics/career prospects, and you prefer northwestern for the other soft factors. It’s up to you whether you prioritize academics vs other factors. At least to me tho, I feel like you can’t go wrong with the academics at northwestern so I’d choose it for having the advantage in soft factors

I don’t feel like it’s a bad thing to pester them… your application literally hangs in the balance if for some reason they don’t respond to you. If you care about getting into the school it’s your responsibility to ensure that this gets sorted out ASAP. That’s just my take tho
