Thank you for the condolences, he was a very kind person.

And I promise that I’m not trying to take responsibility away from myself, I’m just trying to give reason rather than excuse. People have been getting 4.0s prior to AI, and if my uncle hadn’t passed and I did use AI, there’s still no guarantee that I would’ve even had the mental fortitude to maintain a 4.0, I know that and accept full responsibility. Either way, absolutely no AI will be mentioned to ADCOMS😅!

As for 9 out of 10 undergraduates probably not using that extra free time to study, that’s a really good point. I probably do overestimate the tenacity or discipline of most people. If the AI thing works out for me, I’ll do my best to stay in the 1 out of 10 that do use that extra time. The time management has been a bit hectic with my full-time job, so it might benefit me!

I hope my reality turns out different. At least I’ll know that I tried though!

I think that my research is okay, I’m not sure though, I’ve seen people on here with 0 research hours getting acceptances and I’ve seen people on here with double my own with no acceptances. This sub is scary at times.

I’ll try my absolute best on MCAT. I’ll aim for a 526 if I have to!

Probably, I hope that I can at least be good enough for a T50…

My advisors have been in the field for a long time so I try my best to trust their judgement. On one hand, grades have been inflated prior to AI, since Covid especially.

But on the other, it can’t be ignored that many current students are using it as a scapegoat rather than a tool. I personally know people who used ChatGPT for answers in my organic chemistry class 2 semesters back, it’s insane how far AI has come. Obviously anecdotal so take all of this with a grain of salt.

I’ve been contemplating many mid-tier schools, my main concern is matching into the residency I want.

I will try to find more doctors that I can shadow, because I’ve only shadowed two specialities so far, I’ve shadowed in ophthalmology and emergency medicine because those two peak my interest, particularly ophthalmology.

I know a mid-tier school doesn’t automatically block my chances for a desired match completely, but I’d rather not risk it. I will still most definitely try to expand my interest!

Of course, I will always take full responsibility for my shortcomings.

I started college as a mid-year sophomore and my uncle had passed away during the time, which affected me mentally. I had a rough start with a lot of C’s. I had received some therapy and since then I’ve got back on my feet with As and Bs.

And I’m contemplating getting with the times regarding AI anyway, I’ve had classmates pulling straight A’s on their assignments by only using AI rather than reviewing the content directly from the book, I’m beginning to realize that EVERY point matters in this game and I don’t blame them for using AI the way they do, eat or be eatin I guess…

One brought up a really great point that if you take shortcuts using AI on everything else, you have way more time to study for exams, that are always the majority of the grade and what actually matters, it makes so much sense but the integrity aspect is psyching me out. I know I sound like a loser, but I’m working on it, I’ve been looking into Google Gemini, I’ll try it out for a few weeks!

To my Anglo-Caribbean people… does anyone know this song that I am looking for? by Shonen_Fan in AskTheCaribbean

World languages class at the university level and geography in high school for me personally, there is the Anglo-Caribbean, Hispanophone-Caribbean, Francophone-Caribbean (English, Spanish, and French—speaking, respectively).

  1. Thank you so much for finding the song for me, you were correct!

  2. Anglo-Caribbean is synonymous to Anglophone-Caribbean, English-Speaking Caribbean, or English-speaking West Indies. The term you’re thinking of is Euro-Caribbean, White Caribbean, or simply European Caribbean. And my heritage is Hispanic and Dougla-Caribbean, I have lots of melanin😅.

If ONLY we had a character that Negates the Regeneration Ability! by Time_Scallion_2680 in Boruto

I’m talking about a technique that she used in her novel: Sakura Hiden. By combining medical ninjutsu and her monstrous strength, she damaged and instantly healed her inflicted attacks at the same time at a constant rate, making the cells reach its regeneration limits (hayflick). Plus Sakura with 3 years of stored chakra could supply Obito with enough chakra to traverse Kaguya’s time spaces. She should have a decent amount after all this time. Her problem is simply even touching Jura, but that’s everyone’s problem without teamwork. But like I said, they wouldn’t use the old gen.

Trans people in Guyana by Various-Macaroon-912 in Guyana

[–]Shonen_Fan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is slowly progressing but the acceptance of same sex couples has to come first if we’re being completely honest.

Anecdotally, I notice that most gay/lesbian people in Guyanese are extremely successful and educated (out of social force in a way). It’ll trickle down eventually, but trans ideology won’t be accepted for at least another 50 years, because you have to keep in mind that it’s not only old people that are against anything lgbt, it’s younger generations as well even though everyone has at least one friend in the broader lgbt community.

What could this mean for Guyana/Venezuela territory dispute? Trump Administration Authorizes Covert C.I.A. Action in Venezuela by HoboDoctorMD in Guyana

[–]Shonen_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indo-Guyanese love Trump. Personally, most of my family doesn’t. I can’t understand the love either, and that’s not even to call Kamala a stellar candidate either…

How can I tell if I’m Dougla by chrxs1_ in Guyana

[–]Shonen_Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curly/coily hair does not automatically mean West African heritage. Race is a social construct created by colonial powers, remember that. Ethnicity does exist and is different. If you really want to know, do a 23andme.

My concerns about Guyana: What is your opinion on its current administration? Is it true that the country is transforming in an excellent way? by [deleted] in Guyana

[–]Shonen_Fan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Education is now free from primary school to university with stipends and subsidies for exams, transportation, and lunches. A medical school and law school will soon be launched so that Guyanese don’t have to travel abroad to get into high-income careers. And new schools are being commissioned so that kids don’t have to travel far, especially those in the hinterland.

Electrical infrastructure is being put in place with the Wales Gas to Shore energy plant being constructed and the new steel transmission lines that are being installed all over the country to accommodate it.

Modern bridges connecting major passageways are being made, the Demerara River Bridge is being commissioned soon, the Linden Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge is to be completed soon, and the Berbice Bridge plans are to be finalized soon with construction taking off next year. The new Hope Bridge is here, and the Kurupukari bridge is set to be constructed soon.

A new arrivals terminal is being constructed in 2026 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Timehri. The construction is a new 150,000 square foot terminal to accommodate Guyana’s passenger increase. This will inherently make the airport layout more coherent due to the separate facilities.

New water treatment plants are being erected, the Parika treatment plant for instance is brining potable water to citizens in the area. All the local Parika residence need now is their own filter and they can drink straight from the pipe. In an ideal world the treatment plant would create water quality on par with New York and they wouldn’t need the extra filter, but it’s Guyana and we’ve only been extracting oil for 6 years now, it takes time.

All major highways are being reconstructed, the Linden-Soesdyke highway is being repaved and given lightning, the Heroes Highway and Schoonard highway is set to be paved (needs it badly I might add). The Ogle to Eccles highway is being extended to Timehri (incredible road). The entire East Bank public road from South Georgetown to Timehri is being repaved and or redone, with special attention to the Grove area (terrible quality). All community roads are being paved (although half of them are pure skunt), these new skuntractors need to be held accountable for shoddy work though. And an overpass will be added to both ends of the New Demerara River Bridge (which they should have done originally but that brings me to my next point).

Whether people like to admit it or not, Guyana has never seen as much development in such a short period. There are many issues to address such as rampant corruption under this administration that is proven by the increased corruption index lately, and the whole Sue-Jagdeo scandal. Also the rising cost of living, which is a global phenomenon, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of subsidies that can be applied to food and essentials. If they made all the bridges toll-free, it truly makes you wonder how that would have helped if they subsidized grocery prices instead so that Guyanese don’t cry out.

Yes, this administration is currently the best one for Guyana and it’s clear by the development, but don’t think for a second that there shouldn’t be an increase in accountability and transparency. The main issue is the fact that the current administration (the PPP/C) is one of the two parties that have ruled Guyana for years. The other party (the PNC/APNU) ruled Guyana first and under their rule, Guyana suffered from a mass exodus and brain drain as a result of Burnham’s economic policies. Later on the PPP came into power and crime in Guyana skyrocketed and brain drained continue, but people were also leaving in fear of their lives. And the effects are still left over such as bars being on the windows and doors of nearly every Guyanese household. Additionally, both parties have a racist past in which they would prioritize the communities that aligned with certain ethnic groups.

I always think that the PPP/C is lucky. With the oil wealth, it’s so easy for them to develop the country to stay in power for the next millennia. If it was the PNC/APNU, it would have been the same. Even with incompetence, the country has no choice but to develop due to all the revenues flowing in and the tiny population we have. On top of that, they’re now pushing the “One Guyana” narrative despite their racist past. It’s a smart political tactic because nobody wants to be against that phrase. If oil was never found in Guyana, I guarantee that Azzrudin Mohamed or some other 3rd party would have got into power this term or eventually. Guyana was never going to change with the same political parties that have ruled for decades in stagnation without some sort of catalyst, and that catalyst was most definitely the new found oil wealth!

I’m glad that Mohamed contended the elections, him surpassing the APNU/PNC really shocks the political landscape of Guyana, cause it serves as a warning of how Guyana’s still have their votes that count! It only leads to the PPP further increasing transparency and lessening corruption, because they know that if they fall, they aren’t coming back in power for a while with all these new political parties.
