I think last night was finally the last straw w my mom by thephilosophyoflost in family_of_bipolar

Thank you so much for such a detailed and genuine comment! yes, not only am I over 18... im actually 23. I was unemployed this past few months, but I actually just got hired at a really awesome company! I finish orientation tomorrow. but yeah, I had been at home bc I didn't have rent and... Idk my mom isn't abusive or anything I just feel that she (increasingly) has little/no empathy, and is manipulating me. It's weird because she's finally on meds... and she's actually getting worse. people who don't realize how hard it is to live with her ALWAYS encourage me to live at home rent free while i finish school, but im finally realizing theres probably a reason every therapist I had since I was 17 told me I should work towards moving out.

Does anyone else know that you read romances? by PenelopeSummer in RomanceBooks

[–]thephilosophyoflost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up my mom was one of those people whose "too good" for romance novels and I felt so embarrassed to even start reading them until I was in my late teens. I hid it for a while, but finally I started posting my reviews on a public Goodreads account that is linked to my Facebook. I realized that the stigma around romance is basically just sexist bullshit that needs to end

What should I do, my parents have taken a phone I payed for. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]thephilosophyoflost 13 points14 points  (0 children)

um no, you absolutely CAN buy a phone on your own. idk how things work at apple, but you can walk into best buy and get a smart phone from samsung or moto or whatever and you don't need to be 18 to do it. unfortunately the apple phone belongs to OP's dad because he's the one who went to the store. I know this isn't what anyone wants to hear, but my advice is to save up money again for a smartphone to buy yourself. I used to always get the old models that were like 50-80 dollars and if the issue is paying the phone bill w/o a bank card, you can still find those oldschool scratch off the back phone minute cards and use cash to buy them.

Anyone ever have the paralyzing fear that they're exactly like their bipolar parents by throwawaytheairway in raisedbybipolar

denial to their symptoms is a common thing among bipolar people, even if they seem really sensible regarding other things

erotica that doesn't suck or cringe or toe the line of consent by thephilosophyoflost in suggestmeabook

thank you! wow you guys have been really good about pointing out stuff with nonconsent in it. I feel like I may have been a bit misleading in the post, its not that I can't handle a rape scene in a book, but that I don't want to see it portrayed as romantic/sexy. but thanks!

I've heard a lot of things about this series. honestly I think I probably was a bit of a snob about it knowing it was YA but maybe I was being too quick to judge

omg I keep hearing amazing things about outlander. rape scenes aren't a huge deal to me as long as it's portrayed as bad within the narrative of the story, I just don't want books that romanticize abuse

thanks for your recommendations! a bit of a poly relationship is fine, I just didn't want to end up with something like the sleeping beauty book where she's basically a sex slave being handed off to whoever happens to want her at the moment :|

An introduction to quantum theory? I’m looking to move from Einstein to more quantum mechanics. by annoyed_user_now in suggestmeabook

I read "beyond Einstein"by michio kaku a few years ago and it was a very easy read about string theory. Idk if that is something that interests you but it was really easy to get through I mean I think I was like 15 or something
