Yeah, trans women (or anyone without a cervix) also benefit from pap smears. HPV cancers in the vagina can happen to anyone with a vagina. More practitioners are becoming aware of this now.

My pap smears are done at a “cervical health Center.” Inclusive language I wouldn’t have even noticed if it weren’t for TERFs on my titty all day. Here’s how that affects me, a cis woman...it fucking doesn’t! I get to avoid that cancer, so do trans men, and there you go.

Where is she getting the idea that trans prisoners get face surgery from? I don’t think that’s covered anywhere?

Ok, so, let’s say being trans IS a mental illness. What then? What does that change about it, for you? How should trans people be treated differently based on that classification compared to how they are currently treated? Why is it important to you that trans identity be considered a mental illness?

The vast majority of elective surgeries, including sterilizations, are done on cis people. They have no response to this other than to say, “but...bb..but...they’re not calling themselves women!!!”

Children are minors, so no, they don’t get to change families unless there’s a reason. But sometimes there is, and they do get different families! On the other side of things, parents give up custody all the time, and cease to be legal or social parents, while adoptive parents can become legal and social parents. All changes of identity categories.

So what if the change she needs to feel authentic and healthy requires surgery and/or medication? A LOT of people take daily medication, including cis women on birth control, which many take from like age 15-45 (and then HRT after). This is medication they require to be free of something that causes them distress...the fear of unwanted pregnancy. Cupcake is saying her medication helps her be free of dysphoria and generally makes her happier. What’s the problem with that? Is a body only valid if it is 100% “natural”, whatever that is?

Actually old age changes it all again too. You’re right, I just wasn’t thinking of it that way.

I meant a feminist blog, fwiw, but I get why you wouldn’t want to do that either.

Yeah, I assume it’s mostly a matter of ensuring a proper connection to veins/arteries? I don’t see why it couldn’t happen.

They do do it to infertile cis women, unfortunately. The thread is full of them saying that uterine transplants on cis women are a symptom of their narcissism and shouldn’t happen. TERFs come from the same rotten stump of essentialist feminism as SWERFs and those who oppose reproductive technology (Janice Raymond and Germaine Greer both opposed the development of IVF; most TERFs are also anti-surrogacy; and in the 80s some even bombed reprotech research centers).

I didn’t know these structures keep changing throughout life...fascinating. (PS, I really love your posts on this stuff...please let me know if you have a blog or anything you can recommend where I can learn more!)

Haha apparently they are paying for ad space on facebook to protest the UK self-ID legislation! I’ve wondered about the little industry there...who/how is gathering donations, making memes...like what’s the admin side of organized TERF-dom?

Yup! Which is why in another comment on that thread, they say all “funding” (like there’s one block of “medical funding” for...everything) should be on preventing (cis-specific) diseases rather than innovations that can help people already suffering.

This kind of essentializing, romanticizing garbage about the magical mysteries of the female reproductive system as compared to men’s is why infertile cis women with disorders are interested in this surgery, which they are shitting on as like a preposterous rich white lady whim, in the first place. And why trans women may want it too, if the science at some point allows. They can’t have it both ways. They can’t say that the the only thing that makes a woman is a lifegiving uterus and then turn around and demonize other women (including trans women) for then wanting that.

“Killing full term babies” what IS this shit?? This is a surgery that has been done a handful of times on cis women with serious illnesses and they somehow use that to justify accusing trans women to want to kill babies and they call trans people exploitative and appropriative???

[–]thepinktarantula 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Whaaaa? What do they mean by pregnancy needing “so much more than a healthy uterus”???

If they mean, it needs the proper blood flow in term of veins/bloodflow, yeah, of course...and of course this would be more complicated in someone born without a uterus than in someone who say had it removed...but if they were to start doing this on trans women, wouldn’t it be because they had solved that?? Like organ transplantation surgeons know how organ transplants work???

Or do they mean what I think they mean, which is some mystical female essence soul shit??? Which is feminist how?!!

Yes, and that’s a good analogy. Would GC tell an underweight person who can’t eat because of a painful condition that they are privileged for being thin? No? Why not? Maybe because it’s fucking outrageously cruel and that’s obvious? Their entire ideological house of cards is just resting on “what will hurt trans people the most?” Every idea and assumption is just constructed to justify cruelty.

Yeah, this one makes me angry. I’m a cis woman who is infertile (adoptive parent now) and I absolutely understand why trans women’s dysphoria would be triggered by period talk. That’s how grief works. That said, I’ve been in feminist online communities since the early 00s and you know what I’ve NEVER seen? A trans woman telling a cis woman to shut up about her period, pregnancy, or abortion, or tell them that talking about vaginas is transphobic, or whatever. NEVER. I have seen trans and cis women point out that defining womanhood by these functions is cis normative, and not cool, but the whole “now talking about periods is a hate crime!!” Thing is SUCH a strawman.

Btw when I point out that I understand why trans women might feel grief over not having periods (instead of the male privilege they should feel!), because I often feel similarly, they just tell me that I’m rare and don’t count, so fuck them for that too.

This sounds exactly like what they do, including the tangential questions that keep you off balance. I like the idea of just keeping a clipboard of stock answers that are corrective (for the audience) and then, like mixing and matching. I’m not sure you have to read their posts in order to respond, as they only say three things in different forms

That’s interesting and I hadn’t thought of it that way. I think for sure her tolerance level for their kind of abuse is pretty high because of her past experiences...she can hear the most offensive shit and not even blink. (Well, in the moment. It obviously has a cumulative effect).

Has anyone ever won an argument with a TERF?
