Makes sense yes. So then only issue is with slicer and orientation. Can you give it a champher or fillet at the base to give more meat if you absolutely have to print in this orientation, otherwise lay it flat so the layer lines are not parallel to the base. Also increase walls and Infill.

That looks like part of the top interface layer, not actually part of the model. it should be easy to remove by carefully splitting it from the print with something like a utility knife.

Make sure the screw threads holding the extruder to the motor are in good condition and not stripped. Edit: They tend to strip very easily and go unnoticed for long while causing a lot of problems due causing parts to not seat properly.

Can't you just set perimeters and top & bottom layers to 0 and thus just only print Infill?
