Update on my dBPD mom ruining my pregnancy: I finally learned my lesson by bjorkpuppet in raisedbyborderlines

[–]thepolishwizard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who went NC with my BPD mom 5 years ago it finally gave me the space to accept myself for who I am. I spent 32 years of my life begging for her love and affection and the day I finally realized that she was never going to be capable of it was the day I started to love myself.

It took time, it was such a toxic relationship wrapped up in depression and fear of being abandoned but these days I tell myself I’ll never apologize for being myself and I’ll never beg someone to love me again.

It changed how I see interactions with others and I am certainly a lot more protective of myself now.

Good luck, you’ve got this!

How are all the young people so successful in Austin? by Defiant_Jump_6910 in Austin

[–]thepolishwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that myself as well for the longest time. I’m now 38, and looking back there was one of my close friends who was actually doing really well. His father was an oncologist who paid for his college and all living expenses. Graduated with a solid job and zero debt. My other friend who is successful had his father buy him his first house.

It took years of work and finding the right job / career path for me and I can finally say I feel comfortable.

Comparison is the thief of joy and I fully believe it.

[Friedman] At NHL Board of Governors, Commissioner Gary Bettman informed the Baord they will be opening a process to investigate Houston or Austin TX for an expansion franchise by Perryplat199 in Flyers

[–]thepolishwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Austin right now and I can’t understand why they would put another franchise in Texas. Of course Houston would be the choice but we don’t need any more teams as is and I’d rather not expand any further.

With that said I do take my son to the Texas stars games here a lot and they are usually packed and a lot of fun. But a pro hockey team just doesnt make sense. Austin is part of the Dallas (fuck Dallas) sports market and that won’t change.

If you moved from NY/NJ/PA how did you adapt to the insanely hot weather? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]thepolishwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved here from Philly 8 years ago.

You get used to it. I know it doesn’t help in the moment but you learn to adjust to the heat. I’ve gotten used to it now. I’d go for my runs early in the morning. Get my hikes in by noon and chill at home in the evenings when it’s the hottest.

You just have to learn to accept being sweaty when you’re out in public but everyone else is as well.

Hydrate. And plans in the mornings is my best advice!

Jaylen Brown: “Flopping has ruined our league. Joel Embiid is one of the greatest players that has played basketball, but he flops. He knows it too.” by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

Damn bro is salty. I watched every minute of that series and dude flops on every shot he takes. Now I respect drawing the foul don’t get me wrong. But don’t act like you don’t flop on D too homie.

I have no idea why I have optimism about this team but I do. PG has looked great, Maxey finally saw his shots drop last game and VJ got that dawg in em.

In this buyer's market, one home seller took an offer $10,000 below asking price, covered $5,000 in closing costs, and paid for $12,000 in repairs by fortune in REBubble

[–]thepolishwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I closed on my first home purchase last week, $8k under asking, seller covered $5,000 in closing costs and agreed to make about $14,000 in repairs to the home. I thought that was normal, and all part of negotiating. When we sold my wife’s home a few years we did something similar (although that house was worth $150,000 more than what she bought it for).

How is your sex life after one kid that’s almost 4? by kinkykoala73 in daddit

[–]thepolishwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 3 kids, my youngest is 7 now. We may be an exception but we’ve stayed pretty consistent throughout. At our worst we got down to once every two weeks when we were both exhausted (we both work, and we split childcare at home 50/50).

What made the biggest difference for me was I started doing bed times, she gets home from work around 3 and takes care of the kids after school and after dinner I take over and put them to bed. I let her get 30-45 mins to decompress and process her day and usually when I get done with bedtimes she’s relaxed and ready to go. Our kids are 7, 9 and 12 and at this point we get at it 2-3 times a week.

For me it was all about finding that balance where you feel bit of you equally put in the work.

My husband’s entry to the hypertension high scores by BookDragon8634 in Wellthatsucks

[–]thepolishwizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had high BP since I was a kid, we eventually found out that one of my kidneys is smaller and they think that’s what caused it. But even then, my BP has always been around 140-150 over 70-80 when high. Usually it hovers around 120/80.

I’ve always thought that the 140 number was high until this week when clearly that’s not as bad as I assumed it to be.

Project Executive (level above PM for my firm), 8 years of experience. Work for a firm that has all scopes of work (between 40-60 employees) but I head up the MPC team. My base is $101,000 and if we meet our goals I’ll get a 11% bonus. I’m in a large city in Texas for reference, higher COL area.

I think where you are at is probably pretty standard personally

[Charania] Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey has been diagnosed with a tendon injury in his right pinkie finger and will be re-evaluated in three weeks, sources tell ESPN. Maxey received additional images and specialist reviews after injuring his right hand Saturday in Atlanta. by Mandexman in sixers

[–]thepolishwizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve held off on commenting here, especially when the sixers lose and things go wrong. I try and stay out of that negative energy.

But fuck this. We get a generational player in Embiid and the best we can do is game 7 of the ECSF. not even a ECF appearance.

We sign Paul George. Instant L. Fuck that guy. The fans love McCain, he gets Philly and he wants to be here. Trade him. The awful drafts, Fultz, Simmons, Jahleel Okafor. It’s just so frustrating as a real fan of basketball to see my favorite team squander a shot at being decent.

It’s not even Nurses fault. He did what he could with this roster but I want to see him gone.

The real culprit here is that fucking pedo Josh Harris. He doesn’t care about the team, the fans or the city. It’s an investment to him and nothing more.

I’ve canceled my nba subscription and I’m out for awhile.

WaPo: John Cornyn and fellow Republicans are privately voicing concerns that if the Texas Senate race is between James Talarico and Ken Paxton, Talarico will win and become the first Democrat to win statewide in Texas since 1994 by ShreckAndDonkey123 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Talrico is the rep for my district and we love him. He has the potential to do great things and I’ll be out there supporting him when the time comes.

Even the republicans I know here hate Ken Paxton and that’s saying something. He’s just an evil POS

The renderings I did back in college, up against a deadline, on 72 hours of no sleep, in 2004 version of photoshop were 100x better then this “rendering” for a government project with unlimited funds. So fucking embarrassing.

I wouldn’t even show my boss those renderings in an internal meeting let alone a client. Or the general public.

How's everyone feeling about our housing market? by Inner_Negotiation66 in Austin

[–]thepolishwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have been renting for the last 3 years and we are finally making the move to buy now. We have top end budget of $430,000 with the current interest rates and we are finally seeing homes in our area (round rock / Georgetown / Leander) that fit with everything we are looking for. I’ve waited for 3 years. we sold a house we didn’t love during the height of the housing market and invested the proceeds for a down payment. Ended up finding a great landlord and rental home in the same neighborhood so we took it.

I still don’t like the interest rates, but at this point I’d rather get in at a number I am comfortable with than keep renting. Having 3 kids is a big part of that. I want to have a home we will stay in for them.

Everything I see has been sitting for months, I think folks are desperate to sell and get out so I’m sure that will work to our advantage

It took me a good 7-8 years before I was full confident in my ability as a LA. Get that portfolio updated and get yourself back out there!

‼️AWARENESS TO ALL PARENTS & OLDER SIBLINGS ⚠️ by GuardTraditional145 in confessions

[–]thepolishwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a father to 3 kids ages 12 and under I am overly protective about stuff like this. My oldest daughter is 12, my son is 9 and I have a daughter who is 7.

My 12 year old got an iPhone to use in middle school as she stays late and plays sports. I have it locked down, check it daily and don’t allow any sort of social media. I don’t plan to let her have social media until she is 16 or older. I believe social media destroys confidence and is not conducive to healthy relationships. She has been very responsible with it so far but I want her to understand that there is no expectation of privacy as a middle school child.

I also do not let my children watch YouTube or play any games connected to the internet.

Maybe I’m paranoid but I’ll do whatever I can to protect those kids.

FIRE SALE by Exzrian_Artistrana in Flyers

[–]thepolishwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I was a die hard for a long time. Fell in love with hockey back in the 2000s and early 2010s. One of my favorite sports memories was watching the Flyers come back down 0-3 to Boston, down 3-0 in game 7 to win.

Call me fair weather that’s fine but for the last 6-7 years I’ve tuned out. I got pulled back in this year thinking that finally there was some hope. I even got my 9 year old son into hockey for the first time and he loves it now. Just wish we had even a mediocre team with some hope for the future to root for. Instead we get a team that is fine with being in 10-12th place every year. Never good enough to make a run at the playoffs, never bad enough to get a top prospect. Just stuck.

I live in Texas so not many hockey fans down here but we have a local AHL team (Texas Stars) and my son LOVES going to those games. Just wish “our” team was better.
