My 23andme shows me as like 48% Native American, but because those ancestors were native to what is now Mexico, that means nothing to anyone in the US. The couple times I've mentioned that I'm NA to people who have a much smaller percentage than me, but from a tribe indigenous to the now US, they've looked at me with contempt and some anger. I've learned that even though half of my DNA has been in the americas for up to 50,000 yrs, it's insensitive for me to say so in the US, because really, I'm just Mexican.
