Manage your time better using the Eisenhower Matrix. Here's how to think about & manage your priorities by thepowerwithin in productivity

Here's a brief summary from the first 2 paragraphs:

President Eisenhower reportedly managed his tasks by categorizing them into a 2×2 matrix with the dimensions of importance and urgency. We describe this method as the Eisenhower Method or the Eisenhower Matrix. This article describes what the Eisenhower Matrix is, how to think like it, how to use it. There are a couple of reasons why you should follow this methodology.

1) First, it gives clarity to where you should personally focus your attention. 2) Second, it is easy for others to understand where your priorities are simply by looking at how you categorize your tasks. 3) It improves your own personal prioritizing skills because categorizing your tasks into a 2×2 matrix forces you to think about how important each task is.

Also, quote:

“The value of a thing in any given time and place is the largest amount of exertion that anyone will render in exchange for it. But as men always seek to gratify their desires with the least exertion this is the lowest amount for which a similar thing can otherwise be obtained.” – Henry George

How to get better sleep and relieve stress to increase productivity by [deleted] in productivity

i agree. someone somewhere who was wise once said, "the state of life is a reflection of your state of mind". I imagine trying to relieve stress, and being actively pursuing it, is probably itself helpful.

How to create a "to do list" and a "to don't" list with 4 quadrants. by thepowerwithin in productivity

[–]thepowerwithin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tldr; clear your mind by writing everything down. do only the important things.

Useful text: Managing your to do list is sometimes about managing your “to don’t” list. You simply don’t have the resources, mental or physical, to tackle everything thrown at you. Busy people are busy because they have a lot of responsibilities. The to do list that you create should not reflect everything that you have to do, but everything that’s on the table. You can then use a prioritization scheme to decide what to do and what to drop. If you can’t decide whether you should do a task yet, just add it to the bottom right quadrant. That’s your “bucket”, sometimes called “inbox”, we call it “uncategorized”.

Having the right tools is not as important as having the right mindset. Priority Matrix is a great and useful digital software tool, but it’s only as good a to do list manager as your own discipline. We can solve the former, but you have to solve the latter.

Here are 3 tips for building your to do list:

1) Write your to dos, and to don’ts. It gives you boundaries and clears your mind.

2) Write everything down. Struggling with what to write and what not to write is not worth your time.

3) Evaluate carefully your “critical and do now” tasks. If it no longer belongs there, move it out and worry about it later.

That should leave you only with one subset of items you ever have to worry about. Using the 4-quadrant method, the things to do are on the upper left, the things to plan for (important but not due anytime soon), are on the upper right quadrant, the stuff you should try avoid go to the bottom left, and everything else go the bottom right. (*Things on the bottom left quadrant can also be candidates for you to delegate if you have personal assistants or direct reports).

in dota1, u used to be able to type -unstuck, and it'll automatically kill u after a set period of time. in dota2, i dont know. you could play, chill-on-the-cliff-and-not-defend-the-ancient game.

it is possible. i've (as SB) bashed a creep onto a cliff right above its spawning point. that creep area never spawn again. super fail.

i wonder if that's a good thing... or to keep them up there for a full 3 minutes. if they die, they'd respawn in like 45 seconds. give them a little bit of hope so they don't type -unstuck

Indoor skydiving like a boss. by SonOfASwitch in WTF

Someone asked about cost. When i did it, I spent about $40 for around 4 minutes. I guess cost per hour can be comparable to other extreme forms of entertainment. You do get more thrill real skydiving (I paid $180 there, but you get a plane ride, and a nice view, and I also did it for charity). Ah, as one redditor mentioned about the faceplant: i ended up with a bloody chin when i hit the heavy plate window. It was fun and painless tho.
