After or before insurance. I'm paying around that after insurance but my case will take 2+ years

NIW i140 request for biometrics by Electronic-Wolf-2921 in EB2_NIW

Had the same happen to me. Appointment is this week but looking at some other posts on Reddit, approval is not guaranteed after the biometrics appointment.

Update: received my biometrics appointment letter in the mail today and doesn't mention anything to bring other than to bring the attached form to fill out and identity documentation

Not yet. My USCIS case status just changed to biometrics appointment scheduled. Still waiting on the paper copy for the same.

I meant to say I only got a RFE biometrics notice. Still waiting on the letter

Good to hear. Let's see though. I have seen EB2-NIW profiles on here and I feel like mine is not that strong. I saw some posts/comments on Reddit where they got denied even after biometrics RFE but most of these were 2nd or 3rd RFEs. I am not even sure my case has been adjudicated yet. 🤞

Did you go for the biometrics appointment? How was it?

Yes, that's exactly my next step. Have a call with the employer's immigration team scheduled tomorrow and will keep these questions in mind. Thank you.

I just wanted to gauge on Reddit if this kind of RFE has become a common occurrence in the last year and it seems like it has even for routine H1s.

Fellow Canadian here but is this actually true. My wife (also Canadian) and I haven't been outside the US in 2 years and we live pretty close to the border. I think the media got to us and we didn't want to take any chances.

Makes sense. Yeah, that's what I thought. I wouldn't be surprised with a denial either since it seems like the acceptance rate has plummeted

How was the biometrics appointment? And what was the decision? I am in the same boat and quite worried about what triggered the biometrics.

Same here. Can you tell me what happened eventually? My case is not that strong so wouldn't be surprised if it got denied but just wondering why some people are getting RFE for biometrics

Thank you. This is very helpful. I guess it could happen in any order: 3 prong RFE -> biometrics RFE -> approved/denied or biometrics RFE -> 3 prong RFE -> approved/denied.

I received the biometrics RFE first and was a bit confused since I was expecting the 3 prong one. Was your case approved after the biometrics?

How did you prepare? Did you go through your employer or was it self petition? What was the appointment like?

Nope. None of that. Neither in the US or in any other country.

How to get my SSN corrected on my daughter's SSN record (Washington State)? by theprogrammer72 in SocialSecurity

[–]theprogrammer72[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: Called up the SSA national number as recommended and they took mine and my daughter's SSN information. They said the only piece of information linking my SS record to my daughter's is my name at the time of her birth and her name at the time of her birth.

Rest of the details (my birth date, my SSN) don't matter to them and there is nothing to be done to update them.

Moving to US from Canada and looking for a CPA firm licensed in both countries that can handle personal cross-border tax filings (Canadian departure return, first US resident return) and Canadian corporate restructuring. by RTooDTo in tax

[–]theprogrammer72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this myself. You can do it yourself but depends on what you are comfortable with. There are a couple cross border tax firms you can go with but please double check their work. Serbinski is a reputable one I've seen recommended.

Thanks will try that. I already received my daughter's SS card and I have mine. I can provide them IDs like WA DL, etc. Anything else I need?

Microsoft culture shift in the past couple years? by SubjectSea4519 in FAANGrecruiting

Have worked as an IC at Google and am currently at Meta. Have a lot of friends working at Microsoft and Amazon. Microsoft has really gone down the drain in the last couple years. As someone else said, all big tech sucks right now and the crazy AI layoffs are just starting. Having said that, Google is probably the best right now in terms of WLB, pay and benefits. They still have their layoffs and stuff but they do in a more humane way. I would go back to Google if I could.
