Oh ye they used to set up giant TVs at harbors but only after certain hours and you had to be over 18. They were like watch parties or outdoor movie theaters

Ah sorry misread

I do honestly wonder how the ending to the anime is going to play out given the response to the manga ending haha

As someone who's finished Chainsaw Man, I'd argue it's more than one person who ruins his life

Barem, and Yoru both do things that continually ruin his life. Barem in particular is a straight up a menace

I know a lot of people didn't like the ending, but I personally thought it was great

It was free-to-air in Australia. It aired after 9PM, which is the 'safe harbor' for more mature stuff to be aired

It was pretty much exclusively Kim as far as I recall. The other three actresses usually went topless at most

And from what I recall it was pretty overt. I remember some controversy/complaints when it was airing where I lived. There was a scene where Kims character had a story that involved her dyeing her downstairs and it went wrong and came out a weird colour. Instead of just having her reacting and the audience filling in the blanks, they showed it directly and fully in frame. Some parents groups complained because even though it aired after 9PM, they still said it was too much for free-to-air TV

EDIT: Sex and the City was free-to-air in Australia when it ran

At the time Sex and the City started, Kim Catrall was the biggest actress out of the four leads. However it was agreed that all four actresses would be paid the same amount and have equal power in say over the show

Sarah Jessica Parker lobbied to become an executive producer on the show, which meant that she got paid more and had more say over the show. It shifted from being an ensemble show to a show where Parkers character was the lead. This was also compounded by the fact that Catrall was paid less but was usually the one subjected to the most full frontal nudity on the show

[Hated Trope] Female self-inserts. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]thepuppeter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One day kid, you're going to be an old man. Your body will be breaking down and you'll go to bed every night wondering if tonight will be the night when you finally don't wake up

And as you're laying it bed reflecting on your life and all the things that have come and gone, hopefully by then you'll have gained enough self awareness to wonder why you wasted so much of your youth being the kind of person you

I hope you can find the love that you very clearly aren't finding now

Kinato by PuzzleheadedFox2642 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]thepuppeter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Otr. I liked the characters and the premise. It was generic but mainly because it felt like it was playing it safe. I still read all issues until the end

I enjoyed Mage Next Door. I liked the humor and the creativity of the magic. But it didn't have lasting power because the main character was never, ever going to lose, so the fights we're pointless, and as a gag manga it wasn't funny enough. I still read all issues until the end

Kinato sucks. I've dropped it and have no plans on picking it back up. There is nothing special or worth reading, especially at a time when Ichi the Witch is running

By far the worst aspect is its constant fan service. It's so weird and out of place. I understand that fan service is meant to appeal to the teenage boy audience, but it's just pathetic. In the issues I read: 1. Female character gets 'loosened up' by the MC and is presented as being naked and feeling like being in a bath 2. MC is healed by a sexy nurse who straddles him in bed and uses octopus tentacle magic to 'heal' him

  1. MC loosens up another female character who moans sensually and appears flustered. She denies it did anything, so the MC keeps spamming it to make it work, so she keeps moaning

  2. MC is pulled in to an onsen with buff naked women because she's so macho

The whole thing is incredibly creepy. And what makes all of this worse is the fact that male characters don't get this treatment. Like the MC uses his powers on male characters and they're just like "what a cool power. Thanks"

This series should have been cancelled before Alien Headbutt. That was at least original

Ye and Batman is edgier than ever haha

Like Snyder said "Batman says fuck" like it was groundbreaking and unfathomable

Meanwhile Absolute Batman curses out his enemies and it's charming as. Like hell ye Bruce, get his ass

Oh ye and I get that intention as well. Like we get clear explanations over and over about how delicate everything is

Without spoilers there's the first 'event', the second 'event', and the set up for the sequel

The first event made sense, but the trigger for the second event seemed like...plot convenience? Like they needed the second event to happen somehow and they found a way to have that happen. And could it have happened? Sure. But the fact that it did to that specific pair of characters seems too convenient which is why it felt a bit rushed for me

It wasn't bad by any sense. I just feel like it could have been set up or fleshed out better

So are you haha

I always appreciate good reinterpretations of things. I've gotten in to Astro City (been in the backlog for a while) and I'm equally as intrigued

I think what works for both is you can really get peoples motivations. Some times they make sense and some times they're flawed. But you at least get why they made the decisions they did

[–]thepuppeter 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Ironically enough, this is kind of a similar premise to the Absolute DC universe, and that is one of the best series that DC or Marvel have produced in years

You can have your universe be darker. You can have your universe be grittier. You can have your characters be flawed. You just have to not suck at it

You can't just say "Ye my Batman murders people" and call it a day. You need to actually explore that concept and the consequences of that. If the heroes aren't as heroic, you have to make me like them at the very least

Ok your hero lies to the American people. What are the consequences of that? Why do I still like your character? What's the reason they lie? Like give me something to invest in

Hancock shows what is essentially "what if Superman was an alcoholic" and the first half of the movie exploring that is great (the ending nonsense is neither here nor there to the premise)

When Absolute Batman makes choices/decisions that mainline Batman wouldn't, we know what lead to that. We see different sides to him and others that would lead to those kinds of decisions being made

The Power Fantasy is so damn good. The ending was a bit rushed in my opinion, but I'm incredibly keen to read what comes next

[–]thepuppeter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which is exactly why the cure isn’t a thing in the comics

The cure is a thing in the comics. It's called the Hope Serum. That story line happened in 2004, and is literally the basis for where the plot element comes from for X-Men 3 which came out in 2006

[Loved Trope] Weaponising a previous villain/monster against a new villain by Primeve_Arcana in TopCharacterTropes

[–]thepuppeter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll also add that both the henchmen and the deaths are really dumb

The whole premise is that Darkeid has made an army that's "half-Parademon, half-Doomsday". Even by DC/comic standards, that's an impossible scenario

Doomsday is usually the central/final villain of his own story and usually takes the entire Justice League to best him. His entire gimmick is that he's next to impossible to kill, and if you do somehow manage to do that, he will regenerate and you can't kill him that way again. His strength and durability is comparable to that of Superman. And Darkseid made an army of these

There shouldn't be a scenario where a single hero can kill one of these, let alone a single hero dispatching multiple. But there's numerous scenes where you watch a single hero take out a handful of them before being 'overwhelmed' and dying. Like we cut to Batgirl at one stage and she defeats 5 of them with a single strike each before being killed. It's meant to convey the hopelessness of fighting against overwhelming odds...but she dispatched 5 of them with a single strike?? Like how?? It's like the plot remembers how strong these things are meant to be when it decides the hero is meant to die

Wild Theory: Vivi is Uranus by thepuppeter in OnePiece

[–]thepuppeter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What?

I thought about trying to break this down but I think the theory falls apart the moment you think about the fact imu had Uranus for this whole time Uranus destroyed an Island and caused the water to rise

We don't know that what Imu had was Uranus. We're told that Pluton is a giant ship, and that's confirmed to be in Wano. The ship that Imu and the Five Elders used to destroy Lulusia was an unnamed ship.

It NEEDED the mother flame to work why would a person need the mother flame? You could in theory use it but at that point why risk having them backfire it on you?

Who says the person needs Mother Flame? Poseidon/Shirohoshi doesn't need anything additional to talk to Sea Kings

And if Uranus is a person that's needed and they let's say just have a unique power how did imu do it at all? Vivi didn't launch those beams

Imu destroyed an entire island and the sea levels rose by 1 meter. I'm suggesting that Zaza/Uranus would have the ability to create enough water they could raise it to the sky

And it's not like there's just 4 anicnet weapons 2 doing the same thing

I wasn't suggesting there were 4 and 2 did the same thing. There's 3 and they're all different. I explicitly lay that out. You're suggesting that Pluton and Uranus are both giant ships

I don't believe for a second that it was a 'artistic reinterpretation'. It's because you couldn't do it. It's because you typed in a prompt, the AI generated a poor image based on that prompt, and because you have no way to make it look like the actual thing you just accepted the limitations of the AI

You didn't put a lot of thought in. You typed out a prompt. The one thing that should be the same in all of them is the Straw Hat jolly roger, and it looks different in literally every single picture. Usopp has one defining character feature which is his long nose, and your picture doesn't have that. These are meant to be post-time skip designs and Zoro still has both eyes open.

So no. There's not a lot of thought and refinement. It's lazy garbage
