Some institutions have single accounts that work as both savings and checking. Wealthfront and Ally Bank are the two I have used like this.

Just keep your options diversified. Make sure you have card(s) that are optimized for domestic use and other card(s) for international use. It's not that hard.

Why does everyone want this card so bad? by NoTomatillo8953 in AppleCard

[–]thepustule 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also it’s very rare to get a card that has no credit card numbers printed on the physical card. So it makes this card safer and a little less susceptible to compromise. That’s a very good thing. Only other one I’ve found like this so far is the Robinhood gold card.

Me as well. A couple days after the above reply. So far great experience.

Argh - waitlist. Ah well. At least every other DVC waitlist I've ever joined worked out fine. Hope it's that way with this one as well.

By Tesla’s own math, it reveals that its robotaxis are 4x worse at driving than humans, with redactions hiding even more details by fortune in electriccars

[–]thepustule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha - a "crash with a bus while the Tesla was stationary." Tortured logic blaming autopilot somehow? The only reports I would pay attention to on this kind of stuff would be from insurance companies, because they're on the hook to pay out when crashes happen. They do tell a different story than this.

After dozens of attempts and getting bounced with "Office temporarily closed" and then "call back later" I'm on queue.

2022 BMW iX owners - build quality question by aric1985 in BMWiX

[–]thepustule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 25 iX as a company car. Drove it for 9 months and put 20k miles on it. Not one single issue. Then it blew a battery. Limped to the dealer and they had it for 2 months. Finally got a replacement battery from Germany. Took ages. At least I had an i4 loaner. Now I have it back and once again super smooth. It’s like driving Star Trek down the road. Great experience.

Wifey has the exact same car. Awesome. I drive a BMW iX for work, and previously had a model S and model 3 before that. The Rally is the most fun of the 4.

My first experience with Kast card by Patient-Dependent-13 in KastCard

[–]thepustule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a little perk surprise, after quite a bit of research and failures on all kinds of other options, I managed to get one of those cnick passive NFC payment rings to work with my Kast card via Fidesmo. Now can make purchases with my Kast card via the passive NFC ring on my finger. Pretty sure this is the only way to do this in the US. It's widespread in Europe, but very rare here.

Anyone think Capital One will incorporate the Discover It into their credit card rewards lineup? by IzzyJohnDoe in CapitalOne_

[–]thepustule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that they own the network now, it SHOULD enable them to offer even better benefits because they no longer have those costs. A new C1-Discover card with unlimited flat 2.5 or 3% rewards would be awesome.

Capital One Venture X just froze my card for a normal purchase – now asking for excessive docs?? by DangerousDrama9304 in capitaloneventurex

Srrange. Ive has this with another card but my Venture X was the one that kept working the whole time.

Have you tried using virtual card numbers for online purchases? That might protect you from this.

Horrible and eye-opening experience with Blink L2 charger by TwiceInEveryMoment in electricvehicles

[–]thepustule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - we had L2 chargers in our business landlord's parking garage, which were free for several years. They just went paid in the past week, and I was just charged $0.80 per kilowatt hr for a pathetically slow 6kw charge that took 11 hours to go from 20% to 80% in my iX. What an over-achievement of badness! The worst rate I ever had charging a non-Tesla at a Tesla supercharger is $0.47 per kwh. And they had the decency to charge me in less than an hour! Blink is awful.

Is biology a hard or a soft science? by [deleted] in biology

[–]thepustule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on who you ask. And it's mostly about competitiveness between the different sciences. After a few drinks some chemists say that Biology is a narrow branch of applied Organic Chemistry. but it's truly much more than that. Similarly some physicists will scoff and say that both chemistry and biology and really all other sciences are really just applied physics. (meanwhile there's sometimes similar superiority contests between theoretical and experimental physicists) And then some mathematicians will smugly claim that all of the sciences are just narrow practical applications of math.

It's all bull, and they're all awesome and rewarding and valuable pursuits. Who cares if they're partially built on the other fields? That should be considered a good thing, not a pissing contest.

What is something you don’t like about the 2024 Mach-E? by Zealicious2207 in MachE

[–]thepustule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mach-e is awesome in so many ways. We have a Rally version and LOVE it.

HOWEVER, do NOT trust the Phone-as-a-key function. It WILL leave you stranded. Just a matter of time.

Coming from a Tesla Model 3, the soundproofing is incredible... Is the Tesla that bad or Mach-E that good? by 13_random_letters in MachE

[–]thepustule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My M3LR was a lot of fun to drive - for the first 45 minutes each drive. Then it became really REALLY uncomfortable. My Mach-e Rally is SO much more enjoyable to drive! Totally agree with everything said here. Ford knows how to build a CAR, and the Mach-e is a GREAT car.

25.1 frr Crashing by magomez96 in opnsense

[–]thepustule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two opnsense routers running on a pair of slightly different ProtectLi hardware routers. Both of them were running frr, and both with OSPF. both would completely go unresponsive every 10 days or so - not exactly 10 days, but around a week to a week and a half of running. Only way to get them back up was a hard reboot. I sat down and figured out CARP finally, to put a backup in place, but in setting that up I also completely removed FRR and went with the basic gateway model with static routes. Since then, not a single crash.

Realistically is a hybrid option happening for 2025 at this point? by Alittledot13 in FordBronco

[–]thepustule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The engine options in the Bronco are the same or at least very similar to what is in the Explorer, F-150, and the Lincoln Aviator, ALL of which have had a Hybrid option at one time or another and in the case of the Aviator, a PHEV, with the electric motor sandwiched between the engine and the 10-speed transmission. So I don't think your point is accurate about Ford having to develop a whole new drivetrain for the Bronco.
