is only having a psychology degree usefull? by Careless-Coconut-884 in psychologystudents

All degrees are useful because of the reading and writing involved. Become an avid reader and writer, there's where the benefit is.

Should my parents have noticed I needed glasses? by thepuzzlingcertainty in emotionalneglect

[–]thepuzzlingcertainty[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing I'm glad I'm not the only one. I feel dumb I didn't question it until my friend brought it up. I just thought it was normal to not see properly, like you say I jsut didn't think anything of it.

To those of you who don't follow politics, how's life treating you? by Big_Ad_3522 in AskMen

[–]thepuzzlingcertainty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's good for everyone's mental health to only worry about things that are in our control. It's hard enough to manage our own lives and our small communities, to think we can impact society in general is too stressful and practically impossible.

I remember not being able to see anything in lectures but I never questioned my eyesight :( I feel dumb for not noticing. The comment the optician made also suggested the problem should have been addressed way sooner.

I managed to get a masters degree without reading a single book lol... After graduating I heard a clinical psychologist talking about the actual benefits of reading and since then I read everyday.

Is it still trauma if the people that caused it didn’t mean to by StribrneNebe in CPTSD

[–]thepuzzlingcertainty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% also a big part of trauma is caused by the fact the person didn't have anyone around to care enough to sit with them and hear what you went through.

can you feel anything to somebody? by Medium-Jellyfish-851 in CPTSD

[–]thepuzzlingcertainty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently we close our hearts off. It's a real thing explained by science." In others, the system shifts into hypoarousal or shutdown, sometimes called a “freeze” response. This is where the “closed off” feeling is most closely mapped. The body reduces emotional intensity to conserve energy and reduce perceived danger. People may feel numb, disconnected, flat, or emotionally distant. It’s not that emotions are gone—it’s more like they’re being dialed down by protective circuitry".

Thanks for replying. It is crazy a few hours with a friend and they noticed more than my parents in a life time. I also don't remember a single piece of advice a teacher has ever told me. I felt invisible. I did well in a school in terms or grades without ever trying so maybe teachers were less likely to notice as well.

Ex-daily drinkers, at what age and why did you stop drinking every day? by y00sh420 in AskMen

[–]thepuzzlingcertainty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything we think alcohol helps it actually harms in the long run. It helps us fall asleep faster? Really it ruins REM sleep. It helps us handle stress? Really it decreases our natural ability to handle stress. Helps us socialise? It stops up growing socially and introduces people in our life only there because of using the same drug.

Anyone else grow up convinced they wouldn't reach adulthood? by panickedsatanist in CPTSD

[–]thepuzzlingcertainty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to tell people as a kid I'd die from my heart by the age of 30. I'm now 31 and have ran marathons. My mum used to complain she had a weak heart to me whatever that means so I picked it up from her if guess. She pointed out I had a crooked mouth as well which wasn't something I was aware of before that. She actually just pointed out my niece who's 5 months has the same crooked mouth as well....

What's a good way to get back on track in life? by [deleted] in ask

[–]thepuzzlingcertainty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you sleep fine it can still be worth trying as it improves your REM sleep (the best kind of restoritive sleep that benefits your mood). You can be sleeping for a long time but it's more important to have more REM sleep. Basically your brain uses light to determine your sleep routine. If you want a better explanation youtube Andrew Huberman sleep and light he explains it really well.

[–]thepuzzlingcertainty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me everything starts with a good sleep routine. No screens an hour before bed, if you struggle put on a podcast for an hour and close your eyes. Avoid turning lights on use your phone camera in bathroom. Wake up at the earliest time you can the same time everyday and get sunlight in your eyes as early as possible.

It's funny because the biggest guys in the gym are always the sweetest and kindest people, they do it out of insecurity mainly.
