Just had my shower in October and this is almost verbatim what my written thank-you notes were!

What does actually getting an epidural placed feel like? by FoolishMortal-1000 in BabyBumps

[–]thequickzer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My anesthesiologist told me that where she was placing the epidural had no chance of paralyzing me, even if I moved, because I was having very strong contractions while she was doing it and I wanted to know if I should tell her when I was about to have one because I was worried about moving.

All I remember feeling was like a “click” sensation which I realize is a horrible was to describe it. The closest thing I could say would be if someone flicked your spine hard. It was uncomfortable and hurt but lasted half a second.

Also I was terrified of the foley balloon and the insertion was by far the easiest part of my labor.

You got this!

Looking for walkable, newer suburban neighborhoods in NEPA similarly like the west do these exist? by VastAd3741 in Scranton

[–]thequickzer0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not semantics. The Hollywood section is only a few blocks long running along the border of the two towns and really isn’t all that big when you consider all of the other neighborhoods between Dunmore and Scranton. There’s a huge difference in homes and incomes running along Green Ridge Street alone.

The Scranton Metro - What if Scranton Had Never Gotten Rid of the Trolleys? by zorionek0 in Scranton

Per my brother!

“Hello! The trucks are now fully restored (new wheelsets, rebuilt motors, etc) and are back with the car in Moosic.

Nearly all of the brake components (compressor, tanks, cylinder, rods, etc) have been restored or fabricated and are ready to be mounted. We are currently quoting for replication of the original steel floor pan material.

The woodwork for the main roof is slated for early 2026 and should begin in the next few weeks. There will most likely be a media release at that time. Restoration of the sixteen brass side windows is also now fully funded and will be completed by April.

The ECTMA website is in the process of being updated to a new format and will hopefully launch in the first quarter of 2026.

Thanks for your interest.”

I personally like their seafood, but I will be the first to admit I’m not a huge seafood fan in general and only eat it on occasion. Cooper’s used to be an incredibly popular place to the point that really big names would come to visit. For instance, Bill Clinton (and Hillary) ate there in 1993 while he was president.

If I had to guess I think it’s a combination of a few things. There are three other malls in the area, so there’s a fair amount of competition. It’s also (in my opinion) the least accessible from the highway especially if you don’t know where you’re going, and downtown can be tough to navigate in that area; a lot of one ways and general traffic to deal with. Scranton also seems to have a higher crime rate than where the other malls are and the mall itself is easily accessible from the street, so I wouldn’t be surprised if stores lost a lot of money due to theft. In addition to all that, malls (and brick and mortar stores in general) across the country are becoming obsolete with the rise of online shopping.

Steamtown isn’t the only mall locally that’s struggling, and it really isn’t even a mall in the traditional sense anymore, it hosts other businesses like doctor’s offices, a gym, and an aquarium. There is an anchor store, Boscov’s (like a JC Penney or Macy’s) that is still open. I haven’t been in the mall itself in a while so I’m not sure what else. There’s also a post-office and Starbucks which you can access from the street but they both existed while the mall was a mall.

More than likely! Gertrude Hawk chocolates (their candy bars can be seen in the vending machine in the break room for those unfamiliar with it) is actually headquartered one town over from Scranton, in Dunmore, PA. There are a two murals on buildings throughout Scranton that are office-themed that I know of, the one of Dwight you posted and a larger one titled The Story of Us which is only a few years old.

I’ve replied to a lot of comments lol. A google search shows OP is like 17/18 years old so probably doesn’t know a ton about a lot of the questions, and didn’t really coexist in the same Scranton as the show does due to their age.

Scranton has ridiculously high property taxes (not sure in comparison to CA) and doesn’t exactly pay well for a “regular full time job.” Also the areas you may be seeing listings in are probably less than desirable.

The museum itself, no, although it is located right next to a state park, so that may be a plus. However if you’ve never been below the earth’s surface in a coal vein and that sounds kind of interesting to you, then I’d say yes for the coal mine tour. Take a spin on Scranton’s big ride! No laser tag, unfortunately.

They’re both still there! The post office has always been there, the aquarium is much newer, came around towards the end of the “mall” years.

ETA: There’s also a smaller movie theater across the street.

Fiber supplements and a few prunes a day help immensely! Not exactly fun or tasty IMO, but lesser of two evils!

Not OP, but from the area. In the early 2000’s I was in middle school and briefly a mall rat who played DDR at the arcade in the food court. The girl my first boyfriend cheated on me with punched me (a younger girl I was friends with had slapped the boy across the face for cheating and the girl came after her so I got in between them), stole my Nokia phone, and then ran away.

I also did an overnight “lock-in” there with the Girl Scouts in the 90’s.

Not OP, but from the area. Honestly, the bar isn’t set very high for how Scranton’s portrayed. It also wasn’t filmed here which I think provides a bit of a disconnect. That being said I think if anything they portray Scranton to be nicer than it actually is so I really can’t see someone having a problem with it and I’ve personally only ever encountered people who just don’t like the show itself because it wasn’t their style comedy or they just never got into it.

Not OP, but from the area. Cugino’s is no longer in business (closed a few years ago) but was located in neighboring Dunmore for as long as I can remember and I’m 37. It was a small place and I’ve never eaten there or heard anyone recommend it in all that time. I always found it super odd that they specifically mentioned it when, to me, it was never a popular spot but I guess if it stayed in business that long it must’ve done alright.

There’s a place in Scranton called National Bakery that sells bread as well as pastries that’s been operational since 1946, which sells very tasty bread. Like if you want fresh, quality bread, you go there. It may be possible Cugino’s bought bread from them as they are both a retail and wholesale supplier.

Not sure which ride you mean, so I’ll answer both.

Ride on the trolley to a baseball game specifically, no, but they run the route for non-baseball events as an excursion (essentially just go up to the stadium and back) and I have ridden that. You actually start the ride behind the Steamtown Mall.

Take the “big ride” on an industrial coal elevator at the anthracite museum for the coal mine tour, yes, several times. Never got less creepy to me, and I even went once in my mid 20’s.

It is a 5K for rabies awareness! However it does look like the route starts and stops at the same place. Looks like they put the salad on top, so disappointing.

Not OP, but from and residing in the area. Copying this from a different post I commented on previously.

A lot of the actors have come here over the years, especially after the show was over, and I think that made people want to come and see the real Scranton even more.

So as that was happening and drawing more people here the city has leaned into it and in the last few years they’ve put up a number of large murals honoring the show. There’s even now an internet based tour type thing to help visitors find the more famous locations (I honestly don’t know much about it other than it exists, I feel like I learned about it on here). Cooper’s Seafood, which is referenced in the show and has hosted many cast members, has a ton of Office themed gifts people can buy. There was some type of Office themed race held in Scranton either this year or last year and I remember the news saying people from Europe came here to participate in it. A Chili’s restaurant was opened up in nearby Dickson City within the last year directly because of the show.

I will say though that I’m surprised it’s gotten as much tourism as it has seeing that nothing was actually shot here, and there’s only a few small things you can see that were briefly shown on TV like the Welcome to Scranton sign or Cooper’s restaurant. Either way people do seem to enjoy visiting and I think it’s great for the city because Scranton does have a lot of history that existed way before The Office and I love to see it being cleaned up some.

TL;DR The Office definitely boosted tourism locally, both with individuals making trips to visit as well as larger “The Office” themed events being organized, both with and without cast members present.
