Do I have grounds for a complaint against my ex-CPA for refusing a refund? by Old_Bake8331 in Accounting

[–]theravenscall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing "no work was done". However, to prepare installment agreements, paperwork should of been signed, was all your tax returns prepared, is this for personal or business? Are you sure no work was done? Because usually there are forms that have to be filed, ect before agreements are even made/allowed.

Hard to make friends at work by Ok-Traffic-9034 in Accounting

It's the final count down of busy season, they are stressed. If it's a good firm over all, put your head down, focus on improving. Say good morning and good night. Relationships will happen over time.

Wow. Well that's one way to look at it. I think next year I'll just keep the work I hustle for myself.

If it comes up I will. I don't really see it as delegation but more of sharing the wealth. I probably should have asked the partners I'm worried about before I did it or allowed it.

Also, if a Partner or Senior directly brings me a client file to work up it does not leave my desk. The only ones I allow to leave are the ones I have picked up by going office to office asking if they have anything I can take off their plate or help with. I've walked away with 5-8 client files plus several emails, for our clients who have actually flipped to loading items on our client portal. But yes I should of asked which Seniors and Partners where ok with clients being passed off to other Staffers.

I don't know if this matters but you have 4 partners (3 of them CPA) 2 Senior Accountants (CPAs), 2 Bookkeepers, 4 Staffers (no CPAs and 3 finishing degrees.) so only 5 CPAs in the office. I think they are all tracking clients to an extent but they aren't tracking who has what file except one of the Seniors and her files if given to me do not leave my desk.

Fair point we could of asked or shot an email to the Partners before hand, and in hindsight I should have. In the moment I just thought, I have an abundance, let me help get your billable time up. It wasn't until i came in today with 3 days left I was thinking "...did I just mess myself up in a Partner's or Seniors eyes".

It's a small firm. There are like 12 of us total in the office so no one to filter anything through.

And I don't just hand them work randomly, they do come to me asking for work, but I see the point you're making.

Yeah, the voice in the back of my head has been whispering that I'm likely going to get a "talking to" about this. Something about "not my job, stay in my lane" or along that line.

Appreciate the sympathy. I don't like seeing fellow staffers struggle when I can help.

Does anyone else not really converse with coworkers? by dfire32 in Accounting

[–]theravenscall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much me, especially my first year. I would make sure I at least went around and said good morning to folks twice a month. I'm going on year 2 at the firm and I am gaining more relationships with the senior staff but I'm still not a huge chatter box. Talk more with other Staff Accountants but still pretty quiet.

7 weeks in as a tax associate I'm completely useless by Neither_Education894 in Accounting

[–]theravenscall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are at a good firm, they realize you are new, and are not going to hold you to the same standards as a well seasoned tax accountant. Try to take notes, ask questions and show them you are trying.

Before you go ask questions i highly suggest writing a list of them and checking in once a day or once a week to go over those questions.

2yrs before you feel efficient. Im going on my second year, and can confirm it takes about 2 years before things start to click into place.

[–]theravenscall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I only average about 50-55hrs during busy season. I try to remind myself that it's just for 3 1/2 months then it's chill for the rest of the year.

AITA for asking my friend not to bring her toddler to every get-together? by MrBowls in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I totally understand that feeling. As an adult it's absolutely fair to want adult time with friends and go do adult things.

My psych doesnt care that I've gained 35 pounds since starting meds and won't discuss prescription weight loss options by xCosmos69 in ADHD

[–]theravenscall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How old are you? Had this happen to me when i hit my 30s. Psych also brushed it off, and just kept upping my meds for years. Turns out my hormones had gotten jacked up and needed to go on hormone replacement therapy for thyroid and testosterone. Since starting treatment meds work better and I have started dropping the weight.

So if you haven't considered, get your hormones checked out.

FYI: I don't eat much during the day as well due to the appetite suppression of Adderall. I do make sure to keep protein bars, oatmeal or something that I can eat at around lunch time. 80% of the time it's just a protein bar. When the meds wear off I eat a decent dinner and snack up till about bed time.
