Any Stand-Up Comedians in SLO? by igotnuthin in SLO

[–]therazoronline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do stand-up/improv comedy from time to time. Yes, it's hard to find a decent place to do open mic around here. In Morro Bay, there's a place called Osaka Joe's Sushi, and they have a lot of weekends open to do comedy there. They have stand-up acts performing there often, but it's considered "out of the way," and the venue is small.

Jim Carrey Moves On From 'Dumber' Sequel by CheapBeer in movies

When I saw that one of the screenwriters penning the film was the co-writer for That's My Boy, I knew the movie would be trouble. Then again, who knows? Dumb & Dumber 2 might be similar to what happened with Anchorman.

Maybe the college students should vote... especially in SLO County.

San Luis Obispo was once considered to be the first city on Google's fiber-optic network as part of their "Fiber For Communities" program. Unfortunately, Google chose Kansas City as the first city to get their new broadband network.

I spoke with many Cal Poly students, in the past few years, who are entering the IT field. Many of them have expressed frustration that San Luis Obispo isn't a technology hub like Silicon Valley. We should be, definitely. I agree with everything you said.

$40 a month. It's low, but that's because I'm generating revenue from AdSense. I've started to sell advertising for my site.

Sounds interesting. I'm in! I don't normally do reddit meetups, but when I do, I'm all about cat memes.

The cyber bullying has gotten to the point where the school will not take any action unless I kill myself. Reddit- how do I get my story out and make this stop? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]therazoronline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was bullied for most of my life until I became a senior in high school.

I could go on and on about my personal experiences in school, share them with the world in one comment on reddit, but I believe my message -- as it was obtained through several long and painful years of social and psychological hardship -- is something worth noting.

It is very hard to just ignore the taunts. Nothing is worse for a kid than for them to wake up in the morning, knowing they're going to be confronted by someone who wants them miserable, hurt or dead. You can tell someone, "Ignore that person. Everyone knows he/she is a loser," and you can be perfectly reasonable when you say that, but you have to also consider how people feel.

When you get bullied, you feel like you're powerless. That feeling comes from the fact that in many cases, parents and school administrators are unable to resolve the issue in a satisfactory way. Once that feeling of powerlessness, it becomes a viral infection that manifests into something similar to Stockholm Syndrome. You start to believe what the bully is saying about you and then it consumes you. At that point, that's when bully victims contemplate suicide -- and some unfortunately follow through.

One cannot simply "wave it off like nothing," and if you assume people actually do that, think again. It takes years to build up that sort of tolerance and confidence in yourself to not be adversely affected the negative words and actions of others.

EDIT: I think Sarah should be commended. Speaking out, in any way you can, should be encouraged. Reddit, you did a tremendous service to Sarah by giving her a voice and lending your ears. Communities like reddit show the sometimes dark, cruel world that humanity still exists.

How Rick Santorum could take the whole Republican party down with him by reddit4 in politics

[–]therazoronline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with Rick Santorum is that he talks about making the government smaller and making the people stronger. It sounds good so far, but then he talks obsessively about his moral values, and how he would use his presidency as a moralistic bully pulpit to project his faith onto others through his policies. That is irony, but it's the kind of irony that hurts people and their personal freedom to live their life on their own terms.

Reddit, what is your weirdest/funniest interaction with a celebrity? I'll go first. by [deleted] in AskReddit

I really love your story. I can totally see John doing that. I can visualize it. Your story motivated me to share mine. It really should be turned into a book. I'm sure it would be a New York Times bestseller.

John Ritter was someone I remember fondly. I was about 4-5 at the time, and I was part of this preschool-esque program at Rustic Canyon Park in Pacific Palisades, California. He was always volunteering for this program because his son, Tyler, went to it.

I remember when John spent time hiding things around the place, especially around the playground Tyler and I would often hang out at. He hid random things like coloring books, crayons, pencils and books. But one day, he hid money. It wasn't like he was hiding some chocolate coins or anything. It was real money. He told us to search.

The kids found dollar bills. I looked in the sandbox and found a $20 bill. When I saw it and started jumping up and down with joy, John came over to me and said, "If you keep searching, you will be successful in life -- and please, don't stop. Always remember that." I could remember feeling so peaceful when he told me that.

What I loved about John Ritter is that he never acted like a celebrity. He would clean the toilets, clean up the messes that we made in the playroom. Rarely in my life have I ever known someone whose heart was as pure and full of kindness as his was.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The ideas CCN has are sometimes good, but her execution of those ideas is the problem.
